I an a Gen X woman from North Carolina and, as a person with different ethnicities I can tell you yes, there are those that will say some pretty awful stuff to you but, seeing cancel culture remove things is the most racist thing I've ever seen. I'm from the south, seeing them remove Aunt Jemaimah really bothered me. This woman had a successful restaurant in the south famous for her pancakes. Now her likeness on a product she was famous for is gone! It was her! It wasn't racist! 🤦♀️
Aunt Jemima was an advertising creation of the milling company that developed the pancake mix and sold it as the first ready to cook mix. There never was a person named Aunt Jemima, nor was she modelled on one person.
Ms. Johnson i grew up in NC and agree with you…Don’t pay any attention to Bruce S., he is just mad because he actually believes in only what they allow him to believe! I think he is probably right about Aunt J., but that doesn’t mean it’s right to attack a brand that has delivered quality pancake to this nation for over 100 years!!

I'm 60 so I totally agree with your dad! I just noticed that the kid is turning into a young man. I know this young man will do fine in life for having such a great man as a dad! As far as opportunity, diversity and etc. goes this is the best analogy. We all deserve to be lined up at the starting line of life the same, and have the same opportunities to compete. But not all are going to reach the finish line at the same time. How you do is on you. But you deserve a fair race. But if all reach the finish line at the same time, by holding others back for the slowest; that is not fair.
I'm just a mechanic, too. Have been so for 30 years. Also, a US Marine and a father. I don't know if this guy realizes how much he speaks for people who are watching their country go down in flames. You are doing good work.

Learn all you can from him. I use to hear my dad talking and I thought that he was out of touch with reality. Now that I am at the age he was when he was talking, I realized he was way more on point than I thought. I was never big on history until the stuff my dad said started to happen and he always said when the schools and parents are not passing along history we are bound to repeat it. I didn't think much of it until I started to see it happening all over. Now I make time each week to learn some more history.

Kid, you're dad sounds incredibly intelligent and well grounded. Someone who will listen, but in the end not stray from his core beliefs. He will not bow or bend nor break to appease others. Wisdom, courage and standing by the truth (especially when your views are not popular) are three key elements to take away from your dad! Cherish him and every second that you have with him! Kudos to you and your father for sharing what your elders have gone through and shed some understanding of why we will never not be who we are. Gen x was raised without a screen in their face and so many different options we had and the way we worked and played and imagined is completely different. I feel sorry for the ones after us. They never were forced to engage life so they are what the mold has shaped them to be. 😢 Challenge your parents and strive to be better. Don't follow the trends think for yourself. That's what I learned as a gen x.

I have had a part in raising literally hundreds of kids. You “kid” hit the lottery jackpot when it comes to parents. Not only does he show you the way but he gives you the room to make choices for yourself. A true teacher.

I'm a 58 year old veteran who served proudly for ten years of my life and I swore to protect and defend the constitution for which I still do and would happily die for it and our country.
