Specsavers senior optometrist, Dr Nigel Best, explains what the categories and numbers on your glasses prescription actually mean. More details on our website: www.specsavers.co.uk/eye-health/eye-test/your-prescription?
So helpful!! Thanks so much!! So now I am not too worried of my child’s eye-test result. You have explained much better than the doctor’s at the Boots Opticians today. Well done!!
Oh my god! Found you here accidentally and I’m ever so grateful for you very quick, to the point and well explained information on eye measuring reading. 🎉
I came here to figure out if .25 and .50 were small, and this video helped answer that question. i suppose the only thing left is, i wish he wouldn't explained just a bit more what the plus and minus meant on the Cylinder.
the stigmatism is a warp in his eye which can be removed by -0.75 at 135 degrees . Is saying on 45degrees the right eye needs +1.5, & at 135 degrees the eye needs only +1.5-0.75 =+0.75 . the glasses either at a warp in, at one angle or a warp out, at the other. so he could have also written Shp +0.75 & Cyl +0.75 at 45 . same same.
Please explain this if you can. I’m +2.50 in my left and +3.00 in my right for reading only, but if I get a bifocal prescription, it’s +.75 in the left and +1.25 for short distances and magnifying lenses are both +1.75. Why are the reading lenses weaker with bifocals?
Thank you sir for a very honest and technically informative video.. I hope the chart you explain is done the same way in the U.S. as your's is in, what i'm guessing to being, Great Briton ....M, Los Angeles ( maybe in this case it should be Los Angle es ! )
I'm surprised that I'm the first person to like and comment on this video! Thanks for this video, wonderful video... I am holding the prescription for my first spectacles in my hand and your video helped me decipher the code!
A good explanation, but unfortunately my latest prescription is not in that format. I have separate prescriptions for far, intermediate and near. Not a problem but sphere, cylinder and axis are only shown for the right eye. Only sphere is shown for the left. Does this mean the left eye is the same cylinder and axis as the right - or what?
Can Distance Vision portion of prescription has +2.0 for Sphere ?I thought it would always be negative number , is that right ? Question -IF THE SPHERE IS +1.5 AND THE ADD COLUMN IS +2.0. DOES MY SPHERE THEN BECOME +3.5=+1.5+2.0 like combination of two values . i want to buy just over the counter Reading Glass but not sure how to read eye prescription .Could you help. so like in the above example , am i suppose to get reading glass of +3.5 or just +2.0 ? Thanks
My right sph is +1.25 and left sph is - 0.50 and no figure put on my right cyl and Axis. Though left have figures no PD was put on my prescription. Now I am so confused. Someone help me ,am I short sighted or long or am I am bifocal?
No, that's normal for early 40s, everyone will have a different add, a +2.00 from what i've seen in my line of work is mid range and nothing to worry about.
+amritpal singh this is normal...but it just shows your eyes shape that it is round or oval...you should not be worry about cyl....the main thing is sph....
There mulity focus glasses are total rubbish. U have to turn your head just to read 2 words . cannot even use steps. There glasses are all over the place and not even cheep
