I’m not expert at politics or economics... but when I saw old granny and uncles in their 70s, walking shakily, trembling, struggling to wash toilets and clean dishes just to survive. Something is not right, they’re supposed to retire and enjoy the golden years of their life after an entire life of contributing to the city.

PM can hold office, two terms max. 2. To prevent conflict of interest no government's family members or personal friends to be involved in government or top post of government related business whatsoever... 3. Form a house, elected by public vote, representatives not related to any parties, (like America) to check on Ministers in office discipline, misuse of power, competency, to scrutinized is government's policy set up, ( As you know like election, goal post can change any how to upset opposition) for own political gains (that is using law to self gain or political gains. Corrupt by law), whether it's for public interest or not before employed or implementing policy.. Not any how a government set policy or employed family member which will conflict of interest. This is a GREAT video! This is an issue that is of concern to me and my family. Thank you for this video Dr Chee. Politically, I'm an 'independent', but I believe we need to hold the PAP's hands to the fire. Since the PAP doesn't have a solid viable solution that benefits us, HDB home owners. I will vote for the opposition who will push the PAP into coming up with a solution that not only preserves, but increases the value of our HDB flats.

She has no cash to spend on but got few hundreds thousands inside CPF. What you said is true. Her HDB flat is now 56 years old and with no value. She tried to sell it but to no avail, especially with the comments from L Wong. Now she is left with an useless asset, contrary to the promises of LKY and GCT. She is medically unfit and has asked the CPFB constantly to release some of her monies for medical treatment. She went to SGH but was rejected despite having the medical insurance from the government. Useless insurance cannot use but took $600 premium every year from her. So if Dr Chee, if one day you can become PM, she hope you can help the older true Singaporeans to survive. You must have read the false promise in CPF Life. A hawker assistant was promised 700-800, but when he turned 65 years old, he was given only $125. The youtube also showed a copy of his CPFB letter. So Dr Chee please help us. I'll tell her to vote for SDP and for you in the coming GE either this year or next.

Dr Chee has a very strong point. Public housing are for the poor and middle income people to live on. The government should regulate the public housing HDB low and affordable without to burden with heavy mortgage housing loan. So when one reach retirement age 55 they would able to survive on their CPF saving.

How many of us know people who are upset with SERS schemes forced on them? How many of those on the receiving end of such schemes end up moving to smaller homes and suffer a financial loss as a result of such forced relocation? The worst part of it is the huge interest. Very often, a huge chunk of the monthly installment goes to interested payments.
Upset with SERS scheme you must be joking or totally ignorant. How about forcing the SERS on me LOL I know of many who have a hdb flat selected for SERS, cost only a $120,000, then got a spanking new flat with beautiful landscaping and now worth and sold for $550,000!!

HDB flats have appreciating in price based on new infrastructure project around it and also it only appreciated for 15-20 years before it will depreciate slowly and highly as based on negotiation through selling as low lease years are seen as a liability so the solution is to sell a flat where there will be a rebate after the HDB lease passed.

Not only HDB flats have 99 years lease. There are many private property owners whose condominiums also have 99 years lease .. so many are affected. This 99 years land lease expiry is not far away. It will affect your 2nd or 3rd generations if u hand down the property to them.
Yes, I agreed with Chee Soon Juan. Those speeches were indeed made by those PAP. They will promise you everything just to get your votes knowing that 20 or 40 years down the road, they would have exited and do not any need to deliver on their empty promises. We think we are homeowners . But after the lease how home will he return back to Govt.. Where will we stay out the lease. Those who have bought the flats that say 3 decade ago when flat were much more cheaper are likey to make profit , but in today market when flat are far more expensive and not much room for appreiation and have zero value 99 years later, so it is all about which year did the owners purchase
Let us discuss HDB objectively, What was the objective of HDB it was to simply provide a roof over your head. It was not meant to profit you. But over the years both the public & Govt had abused the system. There were the luckey & smart one who buy & sell, buy & sell.... The flip side is also true. It remains the cheapest means for Singaporeans to have a roof over their heads. 😪 imagine if we’ve got freehold HDB since 1965, and a generation of landlord Class as a result is set firmly in place over the course of 50 years. None of the lower-middle class citizens born from 1990s can ever hope to have a place they call home. Social mobility will be non-existent & a whole generation will be disenfranchised. The issue you are talking about is true as well that our life savings depletes as we age. So my argument to you is this, are you encouraging Singaporeans to be less prudent in their expenditure? We all have circumstances we live in that we have to plan for the future. If you know you don’t have enough at the end, then don’t buy a 5 room flat at an expensive location. It’s not everything that I disagree with you. I do agree that ministers are paid too much to ever understand the sufferings of the people. The trade offs we make in life. When you have too much, you’re surround by conveniences and luxury that only money can buy, you just forget. It’s just human nature. The salaries need to be relooked at seriously. including their pension schemes. In any case, don’t stoke fears of this HDB scheme unless you have an alternative that can really address the home ownership topic and its associated social mobility issues. I think this is one policy that the government got in the right balance. But again, that is just my opinion.
Lionel Lim do you see this happening in other countries like usa, UK, Australia, Sweden, Germany, Dubai, etc.? Sure, different countries are unique in their own way and cannot be compared apple to apple but my point is in many countries around the world, the citizens live in freehold properties and their countries have not exploded. Prices remain low(er) than ours.

Does it make any sense to ask the people to save water when more people used more water? So the people were blame for not saving enough water and that is why PUB bills have to increase. Hahahahaha Leasehold land also depreciates over time. A 99 years leasehold land, regardless of whether a condominium or bungalow has been build over it, will be zero in value and returned to the government when the lease is up. All land belongs to the State, under the government.
So if the SDP is going to take over. What promises can you give? What reviews will you take on the government's funds. Will HDB become a freehold property? What changes will there be to cpf? (Lesser requirement, withdrawal for impt use). Ways to improve standard of living. No point critisizing on PAP. Draft up your plan, show what you can promise that is convincing and possible. Otherwise, too bad, not "personable" and convincing enough.
It looks like he is simply pointing out past comments made by ministers versus the current reality. It's important that we are constantly reminded of past comments and promises. I hope all politicians can be objective and made constructive comments
Would Singaporeans even give oppositions a chance to make those changes? No point in wanting these changes if one isn't ready to cast the vote. Take USA for example, the people wanted radical changes and took the courage to vote for it. Of course there will always be risks, but without them there can be no progress.

I am not sure how opposition supporters can trip over themselves by first screaming at the government for the high HDB prices in the early 2010s and then few years later, with the curbs in place, scream at the government for falling HDB prices. In any case does it matter whether it falls? Singaporeans who want to leave a property asset to future generation should buy private property. .. but for oneself, just few hundred $ mortage loan for a hdb flat is really a gd cheap option to have a roof over the head at least much cheaper compare to hk, Taiwan even most china cities now. Further more, hdb also gives elderly owners option of reverse mortgage too. Frankly, one doesn't bring along anything when die, so why do we need to own something in this world forever? I do see many couples slogging n struggling for decades to service their high loan for private property only to sell it to pay every single penny on medical expenses or worse die prematurely.... so hdb is still a fantastic idea by our late founding father LKY especially for many commoners like myself who otherwise would have to pay even higher rentals for a life time to ruthless landlords like in many other countries.
Whatever it is, My Government is still supporting Singaporean in all way they can, so we are not interested in this political talk and propaganda against PAP.
