I read this book twice. Love it! It was one of the first books in my ongoing journey to financial freedom. I think about its lessons and wisdom all the time. It has changed how I think about spending my hard earned dollars. The best thing that money can buy, is freedom. Don’t waste your money by squandering it on stupid material possessions and trinkets for status.

Tae this is like "Life 401" level stuff lol. So many people don't even know why they are chasing the next dollar. Knowing when you're living a satisfied life is definitely a key piece missing from most people's lives. Keep it up bud you're making a real difference in people's lives, not just inflating bank accounts/investments.

This book is timeless when it comes to thinking about financial independence. A must read for anyone wanting to change their life by taking a step back and looking at how society is structures the "money game" and asking yourself "Do I want to keep playing this for my entire life?"

Your Money or Your Life is my absolute favourite non-fiction book. So valuable. I read it in my mid-twenties and have been hooked on the principles ever since. I've recommended it countless times to anyone who will listen. LOL

Great video full of wisdom! I continue to realize and appreciate that less is more, and I really enjoy having different aspects of my life minimized. And understanding the time relation to money and vice versa is very important.

Very good job that you communicate this knowledge that is so needed to change the consumer mentality and always wanting to go for more, even if this costs you your entire life in debt and paying with the most valuable thing, your life and your time 💎

I would challenge the authors on tracking every cent coming in and going out. Some people do need this from a behavioral standpoint, but it would drive me nuts. A better method is just to automate retirement plan contributions and savings. Set the savings rate corresponding to ones needs (e.g., 20-25%), and know you don't have to worry about tracking spending or budgeting.

If you're interested in diving into an older, but arguably more timeless and holistic version of the book, I recommend Candide by Voltaire. It is not nearly as direct with its lessons, but it offers a lot in terms of how to live well, and as the book says, "cultivate your garden".

Many years ago I used to say I was in 'information correlation and form processing' and that I earned $30/minute. Every fortnight I correlated my information, put it on a form and processed it with the government, it would take 10 minutes and they would pay me $300, yes I was unemployed.

I am reading this now and am kind of unimpressed. What he says makes sort of sense but when you earn you are also hopefully creating generation wealth.

I don't remember much from this book i. particular after all of the reading I've done, but one takeaway was the chart it described, with income, expenses, and hypothetical investment income plotted out over time. I have built up a nice chart over the years with monthly updates that is now just starting to show that I can probably retire, which is pretty neat.

Will Mint allow you to "split" a transaction into multiple categories of expense?

I wrote Joe Dominguez right before he died and received a letter back. That book changed my life but I was married and couldn't follow it. Now I am divorced and early retired (slightly early).
