Even if I could Afford whatever watch I wanted, There isn't a watch made that is worth the OUTRAGEOUS prices they ask. Not unlike these people that buy apple products, way overpriced for what they are... It's a Phone, just like that item on your wrist, it's a watch, and the $10 watch or the $200 phone are going to do exactly what they are bought for. BRAGGING RIGHTS that is all it is.
Jenni Jenni!! I’ve been DYING to make a similar video! But WHATS THE POINT?! Because you nailed it and you are absolutely right. Get your names on the waiting lists! Watches are becoming more available and lists are opening up again! 💕💕
@@markreynolds9135 that goes without saying, Mark. Obviously, it was implied when Britt feels up to it. Your comment is as pointless as pointing out that Britt can't run a marathon until she heals a broken leg, for example.
looks like the bubble had finally burst, and the fad is long gone. oh boy, those ADs are going to regret treating us long time collectors so poorly and disrespectfully throughout the hype period. the table had turned, and we shall fully leverage it in our favor.
@@bdegrds yes amongst the collector's community. when non-collectors and first time buyers all started to crowd in, that marked the beginning of the fad era, which is now over, and only the long time collectors remain when the dust settled.
@@Melontheyoutuberbut it’s their product. Their control how they are sold and distributed. It doesn’t matter though because demand > supply. They can spread the watches out as much as possible or treat their best customers. It makes sense what they do, it’s just unfortunate
People buy Rolex because they think other people like Rolex. People got caught up in the 'prestige' advertising and sellers hype, and followed each other down the hole, too shy to admit they didn't know what they really thought about the design looks and the innards.
Was finally able to purchase my submarine date at retail in March of 2022. I refused to purchase aftermarket at those crazy prices. I waited 2.5 years for it but I’m sure glad I did.
@@vadimdon i do not recall 126610ln's grey price ever dipping below 11000 usd (current msrp plus my local sales tax) on the grey, though at the time of launch of 126610ln, 116610ln (around 8-9k new in 2018) was 11 to 13k, beaten down naked 16610ln (around 5k new in 2005 or so) being around 9-10k. Only reason i remember this price relatively thoroughly is because I actually got my 126610ln at AD 2.5 years or so, with one month wait, but seriously considered going grey during that time (and did with a different rolex during the wait). fyi the out the door price for 126610ln was 10k in 2021, and the delta between each generation of subs are very noticeable (116610ln and 16610ln), so i say waiting did pay off.
I TOLD PEOPLE SO! These watch pundits, "Watch prices are just going to keep going up, it's a better investment than real estate," annoyed the hell out of me 💀
Yet every watch channel is saying they are selling more, prices are up and that its never been better in the market. Gotta be a clown to believe any of them.
We live in "interesting times." I'm waiting to see what will happen to these prices in the 3rd and 4th quarters of this year. I have a feeling these declines are only the beginning. Thanks, Jenni.
Absolutely. Between SVB , our current administration policies, interest rates, just like the used car market ( Carvana), the watch market will collapse too.
Yup I reckon some Rolex models will no longer command a premium above retail price next year. Some that are currently 80%-100% above retail won't see that kind of premium next year. High inflation, high interest rates, cost of living squeeze all over the world have people thinking twice about their discretionary spending.
LMAO - Rolex? No longer I want them, Sold (flipped) all my 4 Rolex watches. I found better watches such as Omega, Federique Constant, BELL, Tissot, Rado, etc.
I visited my AD today and was told wait lists for Explorer II are still 2 years. Put my name down for the black dial model and see how long that takes. My last purchase (mint green Datejust) it took only 2 weeks for me to get the call - I definitely didn't expect that!
Where is that AD located? I went to my AD here to get on the list for a GMT (I already bought a steel Explorer I from them. They took 6 months for the call) and they had an Explorer II available. Thinking like in the old days, I took it without thinking… maybe that was not the best idea moneywise, after seeing this vid ;(
@@robertofresard134 my AD is in Bristol, UK. I've also had an AirKing on order for 9 months - sounds like they have a longer wait list for the steel models.
I'm waiting for the mint green Datejust for 8 months now. They said the average wait time for a steel DJ is 1 year and 6 months for TT. I have a pretty good history with the AD...
I’m happy to see the Rolex grey market pricing adjust down. I was never going to pay well over the retail. I was able to purchase from Rolex ADs an OP41 blue dial late last year, and recently an Explorer II black dial. Although still not easy to buy at retail due to limited supply from the crown, it seems the flippers and speculators have dried up a bit. At least that’s according to the Rolex AD I was dealing with. That’s great for all us true watch enthusiasts 😊
Prior to covid I would buy maybe one Rolex per year, nothing crazy, just something that I liked. Enter covid and all the unemployed used car salesmen came out of the woodwork seizing the opportunity to corner the market and overcharge. I kinda hope that all these overnight 'dealers' and 'watch experts' aka flippers, bottom feeders, ne'er do wells etc, that have sunk huge amounts of money (likely all on credit) into inventory, get their just desserts for charging folks 3x, 4x retail and beyond.
Hey Jenni, the Explorer 16570 polar shown has the wrong handset (polished steel for the black dial, glossy black handset for the white dial). Just worth pointing out if it sold by Chronext.
After how the AD’s have treated people for the last 5 years. I’ll buy a new Rolex when the AD begs me. Otherwise I’ll enjoy my Omegas and their excellent customer service!
evening update: I watched 15 Sunday noon auctions and 37 evening. All 52 failed to reach the reserve. All the "investors" trying to imitate scalpers flexing their big shoot deals on RU-vid must feel quite silly now. Normally I don't enjoy seeing people lose money but loosing on bad Rolex investments is such a first world personal tragedy.
It is a race to the bottom now! The real question is "how flippable" is a given model? At this point, only the steel GMTs, Skys, Subs, and Daytona's can be quickly and easily flipped for a guaranteed profit - everything else is a wash so prices will drop and inventory will go back up. However, the ADs are smart, they are still holding inventory of nearly ALL models to try and keep the facade of unattainability going...
Buying any replaceable asset above current MSRP is madness. It has nothing to do with grey or Rolex - it has to do with impatient people with more money than sense. You can buy a (regular) Rolex at MSRP - you just have to wait - a pretty "first-world" problem. Limited or not easily replaceable assets can appreciate, which is why there are special editions when you like to do it differently (but you can't wear them - that devalues them). Some people made a ton in this silliness, but at the direct expense of those on the downside - this isn't business, it's just a transfer of wealth from the silly to the wise.
I think the dream would be for secondary market prices to be the same as RRP. That would stop the flippers but still allow you to get out of the watch for what you paid for it (whether you bought it used or new)
Yeah it's happening. A lot of grey dealers are losing money on flipped watches they paid well above MSRP in the last few years but are now struggling to find buyers. I visited a few grey dealers and noticed they have more Rolexes ro sell than usual. They also have 3 or 4 of the same model. This just explains that they were hoarding them. Now they are panic selling before the price drops even lower than MSRP. .
@@oysterman962 Anyone (grey dealers or greedy punters) who purchased at a high will be loosing money (if they sell ) at a lower point. What is it about this that you find complicated or confusing? It’s all part of the job for a trader/speculator. If grey dealers actually hold stock for three years then they can afford to hold for three more 😉
I recently purchased an AP RO 15300st from an owner who had to lose 20k in order to sell the watch. So… yeah, I can definitely see more price drops for overhyped brands and models. Rolex AD’s mistreatments and manipulative methods have led many real enthusiasts turning their attention to other high horology brands that offer more value for the money (GP, JLC, Blancpain, Moser, Bulgari, GS, etc)
Not very accurate... rolex themselves are hiking the rates, the CPA program will freeze the drop and grey market will follow. demand has never been higher and supply will no boost, even with the new production facilities, which rolex aim to tackle the increase in future demand with, not the current load as many think. you can always buy a good catch from broke speculators but that supply will soon dry.
I'm delighted by the idea of Rolex prices dropping: speculation on the grey market has ruined many people's attempts to buy one from an AD because the AD will 'value the relationship' they have with their regular flippers. It artificially pumps the price and produces scarcity where none need exist. I wanted a Sub since it's considered such an iconic diver's watch for actually, y'know, diving but ended up grabbing an equally iconic Doxa instead because, horror of horrors, you can actually just buy one from a dealer like a rational being.
Excellent review. The world financial markets are having dreadful jitters tonight and it will continue this week after a large bank in California, USA was shut down this past Friday, I see further price declines coming.
LOL exactly what I was thinking. Despite her headline mocking the AD saying watches are "hard to get"...you cannot, in fact, get a 226570, polar dial from an AD. If you want to buy a 216570, with 20 hours less power reserve (and other minor differences), you're STILL paying above retail, and if you want to buy 2 generations ago, and a smaller watch...yes, you will pay less. Shocking. I don't really get what that watch is doing on this list for pieces you can buy "below retail."
These Swiss watches have been used as a vehicle to launder money out of Russia, China and other Asian countries and as such the prices increased. The last year or so it's been hard for Russian and Chinese mules to get on a plane to move the watches out of country for laundering purposes thus the prices tanked.
The Daytonas have become absurdly overpriced to a point that makes no sense. Once the mania passes I expect the Daytonas to fall a lot. If I had one I would sell it now to get out while I can.
Wait and see what will happen as soon as people realise the new Dayton is a true 40mm watch compared to the old 38,2mm watch. They will be in free-fall.
Of course they’re hard to get. It increases the price just like auto bump stickers. Limited availability ( alleged). means higher prices. This will bite them in the arse. No disrespect, but Chronext is way overpriced.
Rolex hard to get and exclusive????? the kick out 1000000 pieces a year. Get a Zenith or Grand Seiko they are much more exclusive. Both they make only 35000 pieces a year.
finally it bursted, with banks crash in US, EU watches price will absolutely go down more !! fck all the flippers, hope they all buy high and sell low now ;)
Big mistake about your Ex2 statement. You compare the greymarket price of the 216570 against the retail of the 226570. That doesnt make sense. 226570 as fullset starts at 11500€. Do your homework ;)
You're rolex explorer II data is incorrect. the current model 226570 retail maybe 8,500 but the used watch shown is the previous model 216570. please can you change this?
wouldn't pick it up even if someone threw it at me. For me, Rolex has lost its class, it's just a tax for the nouveau riche. IMHO, Rolex prices should double or triple.
Rolex should figure out a way to sell directly to consumer. How is it the AD's and Boutiques have nothing, but the grey sites have every model you can imagine??? You can literally have any model you want on the grey site....for a premium. Definitely some shady backdoor stuff going on. We need a whistleblower.
my grail watch on my lists are Daydate 36 Tricolor (18038) , Datejust Oysterquartz Texano (ref.5100) and a Godzilla Grand Seiko…. someday perhaps… i’ve just enherited a Daydate 36mm with bark finish bezel n bracelett in white gold from my dad… my fave watch so far
Expensive watches are a luxury and certainly not necessary. To pay above retail doesn’t make sense especially when there are great alternatives at better prices.
I like Rolex but not so much that being treated like a second class citizen when I ask basic questions and have the good fortune to afford one. I’ve never been treated like that at an Omega AD hence why they will get my hard earned money
Go into an Omega dealer and ask for a Silver Snoopy. Now you must understand that nearly all Rolex models are as sought after as that. It’s a matter of perspective
@@Melontheyoutuber this does not justify poor customer service or demeaning behavior. At the end of the day it’s only a watch- I don’t care how sought after Rolex is. Treating people like crap due to demand makes no sense to me
obviously there is a limited number of people gullible enough to pay that overinflated price, those people purchased what they did and nobody is left to buy any more. It is just a matter of time before they run out of people who want to pay MSRP and the prices will drop even further.
Jajaja no true in most of what she said. Steel are still difficult to get for the brand and you can sell It well and easy. And if you want a Explorer II White dial wait for more than a year, or 2 years for a Submariner, or tour life for a Daytona steel White dial But she Will but you all that you sell below retail, specially the Explorer II If you want to sell it under retail?...I'll buy It!!
I recently bought the Citizen CA0710-58L and I find it to be a beautiful all occasion watch, it has all the usual likes and dislikes of the brand but I do think that it stands out and from a distance it might even be mistaken for a Rolex. It deserves a close look
I think ALL the prices, She just listed, are Freaking INSANE for a stupid watch! I've bought and sold used Two-Tone Date Just's for under $2500 dollars & I surely would Never pay more than 3k for One! You People with More Money than Sense, go right ahead... 🤣
Love your videos. I’ve been wanting a white Explorer II, but not worth what they have been asking recently. I’ll start watching the prices. Thanks for this info. Subscribed to your newsletter!
Here in the States that piece (my grail too) is still looking at $3k to 4 above MSRP. I did recently exchange emails with my AD; maybe I’ll get the call someday.
I'm not suggesting the "hands" holding watches in "your" video are yours...but if my hand was going to be filmed for an online video, I'd sure as hell get a manicure.
I think people need to accept the idea that 2nd hand and gray market watch dealers are the primary dealers for Rolex, and Rolex fully supports this model. Authorized Rolex dealers sell to the gray and 2nd hand dealers, who in turn sell them to the public. This has been Rolex’s primary business model for decades, and is how more than 80% of Rolex watches reach the end user. After you get past the ridiculous idea that you’re supposed to build some sort of “relationship” with the ADs by wasting money purchasing unwanted watches to get what you want, you’ll be better off. “Retail” prices for Rolex are actually the “wholesale” prices, and you need to factor in the dealer tax i.e., price of the unwanted watches you’ll need to buy first. Unless of course you’re only in the market for a two-tone DateJust.
Looking for a Rootbeer GMT 2 but you have convinced me to continue the waiting game. Minus Chrono 24 fees flippers are now making nothing which is great news.
Grey market dealers have always made money so why is it any different now? Sure if they hold onto stock they bought high it will be an issue, but generally it’s all good if things calm down.
Sad fcukers who are not buying anything will dance and laugh, lots on lists will pull out because all they wanted was a profit…and the rest of us will go back to getting an Omega ‘Killer’ after a short wait 😂
I was at a Rolex dealer in Vegas a month ago, they had four salesmen standing around and they told me that they had nothing for sale...really, I was wearing my Rolex so its not like I'm not a member of the club? The Panerai dealer next door had plenty of watches for sale and the salesmen was super cool! Rolex what are you doing?
The one and only of the five watches that might be of interest to the majority of Rolex enthusiasts is the Explorer II. Precious metal or two-tone watches are more for a rather small group of people.
It's nice to know that if I could buy a Rolex, I could ACTUALLY buy a Rolex. There is absolutely no practical reason for this on my part, but I love that GMT Explorer II with the white dial. I suppose this means that the cost of living vicariously has gone down. 🤣
Rolex seller: high Rolex buyer: hi Rolex seller: Its not fake, look at this green card Rolex buyer: this is the best fake I have ever seen Rolex seller: Well, I never.... Rolex buyer: Only patina cant be faked
I don't know why these youtubers are claiming that Rolex is falling in value and is available when I went to Dubai recently i asked 4 different ads plus also the dutyfree store. None of the silver watches were available for booking as well. The only ones they were willing to sell were dualtone datejusts. I checked online on chrono24 and they were all double the price. So the situation is the same as it has always been. If the prices have gone down then it's just by a small margin. I dont know who to trust for more information regarding this brand. Lucky to get a Batman gmt on retail last year from my local ad in Delhi. Keep your fingers crossed.
