Over 75 - Had a visit - wife out in front garden at the time - goon by gate, She asked who are you? He said TV Licensing. She said no thank you. Well trained by me.

1974 was the year Australia stopped with the TV licence game. Amazing the BBC still puts the UK through such an antiquated model.

What I found when I first started getting visited was how hard it was to _not_ identify myself when they asked me if I was Mr Uren. It was just automatic 'Are you such-and-such?' 'Yes.' Is such an easy thing to fall into. Once I'd cracked that one, it was easy. I often start with 'Never mind who I am, Who are you?' 'I'm from TV licensing.' 'NO thanks!' *Bang* (sound of the door closing 😉)

I would give higher scores where the goon is told to sling their hook or FO from the first moment.

i cancelled our licence in december 2018. in february 2019 there was a knock at the door, upon opening the door the geezer said "hello i'm doing a survey into what channels people watch on tv" i knew immediately it was tv licensing being devious trying to get people to admit to watching live tv. he duly got the door in his face without a word from me. so far no other goons have been back

"I need to get your details, so I can help you." Yeah, help them to spend £159, and/or get a conviction.

You stick a note on the door saying ‘self isolating’. Job done ✅

They were denied any money. Well done all of you!

I'm yet to have a goon at my door, but I can't wait for the day that I get to say 'I don't speak to salesmen' and shut the door in their face. I'll make sure to video it too lol

Staggering. They ask for details before introducing themselves or saying who they are. If anyone behaves like that there is only one reason - their whole outfit is shady.

My standard response is “I don’t deal with anyone on my doorstep” and shut the door, polite but firm. I’ve just got rid of my licence, and that lot will be treated the same if they knock. I used to be too nice, but learned my lesson and now I don’t even give them chance to speak, that’s if I bother answering at all.

Just had another letter arrived, saying we are under investigation. ( that's about the 9 or 10th one ). It's going to be good, knowing the weather is changing, Sat in the house, fire on, warm & dry, watching them at the door. The last one, was knocking for a while, put a letter through the letter box, & just to p*** them off, I shouted, close the gate after you.

Oh and a note on door bells, maybe the people on here don't like to have to subscribe to Ring's services, in which case the Eufy Door Bell is better as the video is stored on the local box it is supplied with indoors via WiFi, one off purchase, no monthly fees, I'd have to guess that people who prefer not to watch live TV and pay the BBC might like that option better

So is that 'mask under the chin' the correct usage of those things? If that's the case I've seen soooo many people wearing them wrong lol

8/10 he did sound nervous but I'm sure he learnt a lot. At the point I hear the word TV licence I close the door. I do not engage them. How cheeky of them to be asking not to post and scrutinize them.

I got rid of my licence just over a year ago, Jon - since then, I've had about 6 visits already and around about at least 20 letters of differing standards and variations. At least now they using to "the occupier" on them instead . . . However, I don't think they'll ever give up trying to put a scare into people in to paying money for it every time until something is finally done via the government to bring a complete stop to it all . . .

I have a door-knock strategy that so far has been 100% effective with anyone I don't know or recognise as an identifiable authority figure. It goes like this: Knock knock! I open the door and see clipboard man/woman (they're invariably carrying a clipboard) standing there. I immediately greet them (in a friendly and conversational manner) thus: "Oh hello. What are you selling?" Their reply 100% so far is, 'I'm not selling anything." To which I reply (again in a friendly and conversational manner), " That's great because I'm not buying anything. Good day." And I close the door. So far no one has ever come back.

I haven’t got a door bell,or a knocker. My front porch door is always locked. I also have a notice saying No Doorstep Sellers.

The goons absolutely hate Ring doorbells - Their secret weapon (surprise) is lost and homeowners can now approach the door (or not) fully prepared to make mugs out of them. My dream visit is a goon knocking on the door whilst I am on the bog. I have the script, memorised, ready to unleash on the poor clown. Great work, pal.

I think you are wrong when you say that you shouldn’t talk to them. I think you should talk to them as much as possible, you shouldn’t answer any questions but should ask plenty of them. The reason for this is because these goons work on commission and it should be everyone’s right to waste as much of their time as possible. Imagine if everyone they visit in a day kept them talking for half an hour or so with no sale at the end of the day.

It's like cold calling on the phone. Get rid of them sure, but have the most fun at their expense in the process. Love the points out of ten. If it was more fun for you than for them, then that's a 10 out of 10 for sure :-)

TV licence crawlers are one of the best sources of wind up's around. I always tell them I refuse to buy a licence and then shut the door in their face.

Just got a letter with "INVESTIGATION STARTED" in big letters on the front. The scare mongering they do in the letters would definitely frighten some people. Even if they dont need a TV licence

Remember to advise everyone in your household what to do if they answer the door to one of these guys. Be polite, make it clear you are not interested in talking to them, and shut the door. Don't say things like "I don't need a TV license" or "I don't watch live TV". Tell them NOTHING. They are noting down and using every single interaction they have with you, and in the event that something does go wrong they will use everything against you.

That first goon visited my house last year. As soon as he asked me questions without introducing himself, I followed your advice to the letter. Never seen him again

Always keep my front door locked, cancelled licence in June not had a visit or any letters yet. Having watched a lot of these goon visit videos the black folder seems to be a theme so will look out for that if I get a visit, I will say exactly what you have advised to say and shut the door.

Hey Jon not sure if you will ever see this but the leaf on the poppy should point at 11 to represent the eleventh hour of the eleventh day 😊 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

Surely the goons should know by now that CCTV and Ring doorbells etc are common place now, so they should be acting professionally and politely - as they should be in the first place!!

I couldn't shut the door straight away without explaining the law to the TV guy, then closing it.

1st Vid - 9.1/10 2nd Vid - 10/10 3rd Vid - 6.8/10 All had the desired effect and all resulted in the goon being discharged accordingly, but the golden rule for me is......the less contact, the better. The best isn't always simple, but simple is always best.

I wonder if they will be calling when the weather gets really bad . Keep them standing as long as you can after they have rung the bell then just as they are about to leave open the door and do just as Chilli says

I have a ring doorbell. I want to say wait there and then don't answer the door.

Clip 1 would be a 9/10 for me. Took a bit longer than necessary but the goon didn't identify himself when the door was answered, just went straight into identifying the occupant. A conversation would have been needed to lead into the "who are you?" and the required door slam.

There's a good view of that handheld device that they use at 1:45. I know that Jon was trying to find out what the device is capable of doing in another of his videos.

Can't wait for a TV person come to me or my neighbour. We are in a house that has been made into two flats, flat 1 for me and flat 2 for him. Both of us have a licence but for the last 5 years TV Licence have been sending letters saying that a goon will be out for flat 1-2, not flat 1 or flat 2 but flat 1-2. We so want to open the door and say "well this is 1-2" and let them see the 5foot hallway we share before the stairs up to our main flat doors. 😆

Cancelled in July by correct method. Have had three letters and one goon already. This is harassment. Have a no cold calling sign on door but still knocked. Disgusting.

I have a feeling that when the review of the charter happens if anything they'll push to make it cover all live broadcasting, so twitch streams, RU-vid streams and stuff like ring doorbells may also fall under their control.

I don't have a licence but still enjoy all the channels. LOL.

The goons really are clueless! Asking you not to post videos of them because it makes their job more difficult. That's the whole idea of the channel!

Love watching goons in England selling TV "licenses". We don't have this in USA. That is whacko.

I think 10/10 would be to start asking them to tell you about the specific shows that they offer to see if you're interested and then at the end so no thanks; try to keep them there as long as possible.

On your great channel, when one visits me it will be, " no thanks, have a nice day" clunk

I like the absence of any effing and jeffing in all of these clips. Everyone was courtious, which was good. You might not agree with the goons (and I don't) but there's no need to bring yourself down to their level. I cringe at clips like that. The main thing is no TV licenses were issued in the making of these clips. Good effort all round 👍

Chilli, if you didn't have a bit of a Tete a Tete between the antagonist and the public you wouldn't have anything to show. I say ten for reacting to the goons.

Just over 2 years ago I had a few goons turn up at my door on and off, originally I just ignored them completely but 1 caught me off guard and we engaged in conversation... he asked me who I was and I told him I am the Brother of the home owner just staying for a few days before he (me) sells up and relocates. Now the threatening letters they send are no longer addressed to my name, the letters are addressed to 'the legal occupier' Mission accomplished 😁

Good to see that the TV licencing staff are behaving sensibly and taking no thank you for an answer (the last one could have been a bit better). Does telling them "no thank you" get recorded? Is a no answer visit more likely to cause them a return visit? If they return when someone else answers the door and may give them too much information away. Scores I'd give: 9, 8 or 10 (depending if they are single occupancy, or if everyone in the house understands how to deal with them), and another 9. There are alternatives to Ring that record locally (some on the device, which has theft concerns), but the Ring ecosystem is very strong and the subscription becomes very cost effective after 3 or more devices.

I honestly have nothing to hide I'm not watching live broadcast or anything from the beeb BUT I've told my kids and Mrs what to do if they knock....just politely close the door. Job done

Surely in your scoring system a perfect 10 should be reserved for those people who keep the Goon on their doorstep for hours without learning anything, the longer he spends with you the less time he has to annoy other people - I suggest trying to convert him to your brand of religion (don't have one, OK make one up), he'll be off quicker than you can say Jehovah's Witness .

When you answer the door , ask them who they are , they say tv licensing , you say no thank you and close the door , job done .
