I learned the hard way. Take your time and spot weld it. Cool it off with air. It doesn't take a lot of heat to warp the metal a lot way up from the welding spot. I hope I learned anyway.

Keep a close gap with each tack it will want to close up so grind it almost flush and hammer and dolly the weld to stretch it back out the gap will open back up again use that as a reference rinse and repeat all the way along as you tack make sure your flush then come back and fill the gaps 5 tacks at a time grind and hammer and dolly again then planish until finished once you learn to stretch the shrunk weld area back out heat isn't an issue either because you can stretch it back out so you can move much quicker.

It's funny, as i've worked with metal over the years and always listened n learned as much as possible from pro's with more years in the game, they explain it like metal is a breathing creature more akin to wood with grains and crystals. lol. Metallurgy is quite an art.

I once saw our instructor use copper or some non ferrous metal at times then cover gaps created by blow through; he'd go back over them with that material and the weld would sit nice and flush, didn't stick to the scrap either. even acted as a heat sink.

welding from either ends towards the center is not good, your panel will have a huge hump by the time you get to the middle. stay in the same direction. spread out small welds, use a blow gun where it gets a bit hot. very nice work, could just be a little different with the heat spreading and avoid bad warps
@50FiftyPence50
