I love wide angle landscape photography, and for me it has always focused on vertical compositions.
Checkout my video all about how to use a Wide Angle Lens: • How to use a Wide Angl...
In this weeks Landscape Photography vlog, I head the Tiffany falls to get a few of my favourite type of shot, a wide angle, vertical composition. This waterfall was magical, mostly frozen and with many interesting ice formations.
Thanks for watching,
- Nick

So which did you think was best? First Image, or the Second image?

My vote is the second one I reallylike the depth from the layers and the mound pointing to the water falling. The tree in the first one is interesting also. Never been there in the winter. Great video.

I like the first image more which is interesting because I didn't think the forground worked at first but it really does! The first one is more dynamic and I like that it's separated into sections. Great video!

Yea, that foreground was a bit tricky, but I'm satisfied by it, glad I got to see some weird nature. :) Thanks, friend!

I like the one on the left (1). I think it's great when you find a strong triangle composition in nature. Both the foreground and the background have really interesting elements. The second shot is nice, but that's exactly what I feel, "It's nice". On the other hand, my wife prefers the second shot lol.

Subjective really, I have a few commenters liking the right one, but I really wish the left one worked just a bit better, the reach of the tree really gets me. Thanks for the review :)

Love the video! I prefer the second image but they were both amazing. Just liked the second composition a bit better.

The first image is my favorit. It has better lines, the foreground is more interesting and the midground is better for me. The center line from the tree to the bottum works well.

Nice video, great images. One suggestion for your next shoot like this: Get a decent pair of crampons!

Thanks! I have a pair actually I didn't think to bring them, which was a total mistake :(

I like the image on the right better. The 1st image as you said is just two images because of the size of the bottom foreground. The second image is the stronger composition
@lightmeetslens
@lightmeetslens 5 месяцев назад
Yes, the second image definitely is more "leading", which can be very desirable in a composition. Thanks for the comment!

I actually think it works really well. I never used to shoot in portrait mode at all, and I think I changed because of one reason I started to notice that my white angle shots had a lot of dead space on the left and right a lot of space where there was nothing in the image and it happened by accident I cropped a couple of images in and thought. Oh that looks nice. It had nothing to do with Instagram and Facebook platforms, especially on phones which everything is more conducive to portrait mode. It had nothing to do with that it happened for me because of dead space on the left and right often with a white angle lens you'll end up with dead space on the left and right, and if you go through images and look at the dead space on the left and right of your landscape photos and you start to go, what purpose does that serve as soon as you start put some images into portrait it will work really well I would probably shoot now 50% in landscape mode. And 50% in portrait mode as I call it, it gives you amazing depth of field.

Yes exactly!! I think this lens orientation makes me focus a lot more on composition by limiting my subject arrangement options. Thanks for the comment!

I like em both but the 2nd photo more. Ilke being able to see more of the scene like in the first but like seeing more of the detail or closer up in the second. There is a good chance I would pick the first if it was something like a 3'x4' or bigger print on the wall.

That are very different, even though they were taken at the same focal length, right next to each other. Thanks for the review!
