“Your audience is already there” that’s actually such a powerful quote, I’ll use that on my next project ❤

Something I've tried to live by: "Direction is more important than position." If you are at the bottom, as long as you are progressing, then you are going to get there. If you are at the top, if you aren't growing, you'll soon be dropping off. So direction is more important than position.

I have tried to tell people this for years! Even when I made my very first videos I spoke like there were 1000's of people watching.

Nate, this video made me cry. It touched me deep to the core. I am in my 10th year of doing RU-vid and almost at 10,000 subs! I was going to say "how do I begin here" but I think it is safe for me to say here that: 1) I am crying my eyes out! 2) This has been the most emotionally impactful content creation video I have seen in my journey since October 2022. 3) Because it has had this emotional impact on me, it proves to me that, whatever the content might be, it IS a VERY emotional journey. 4) That I am in excellent, like minded, company. 5) That I need to get out of my own way for 5 minutes and instead of dancing like no one is watching, I need to let my dreams be free long enough to visualise the possibilities. 6) This video is going to stay with me for a VERY long time and will probably govern how I apply myself from this point on. 7) I thank you for that. Nate, you sir are the reason why I went from no voice and always shy to over 500 subs and still growing. Keep it going man! I loved this advice because I’ve seen it myself in my channel. I started a channel about two years ago and had never done anything RU-vid related before. I needed to learn everything from scripting, filming, editing, publishing and I learned most of that from you. It’s the ability to talk to your audience as if there were thousands watching and cheering you on, but also to talk as if you were having a one-to-one conversation. I think you have the talent of doing both, Nate.

(Sorry this is long but I'm kind of chocked up ;-) Gee, Nate what a fantastic way to end this video. That scene you shared (thank you) is exactly what we're all feeling for you, too. You see, I think that you're really getting to us here because so many YT businesses have a person at the core who broke away from a scene that wasn't truly fulfilling them (in our family, it was my husband and myself). I guess your viewers are kind of living vicariously through you, in a sense. You're on the "hero's journey" and we want to be on it with you. We've all had that point in our lives, too, where we had to face our boss and say, 'guess what? I'm leaving. Yeah, I really mean it.' And we know they'll replace us, but in that moment, it is a huge heroic moment in our personal lives. Or we finally dump that career that kept us bound to sleepless nights, sleeping pills, ulcers, or depression, and said, okay, I'm Cortez burning the bridges. I'm going forward, no matter what. You don't know how many breakfasts here at my place you've been the subject of conversation. My husband doesn't yet follow you online but he knows your name. I say "Nate" and he knows exactly who you are and all about what you are doing, because I've been telling him your story. I think your family must be pretty supportive to you. Same here in mine. I am honestly watching and wishing you so much success and (however you want to call it) - that universal love that one attracts when they put that same feeling out to others in the universe, and attracts it back. I remember getting my first “why doesn’t this guy have more subscribers” comment. Albeit it was on a short and not a long form video. But man, it felt good! It let me know that I’m doing the right things. And you’re right. The main thing I learned working in marketing is that it’s all about the PEOPLE! Don't look up, do's and don'ts for RU-vid channels. If your audience is already there there are no "don'ts"! Just be you and do your thing. I'm a firm believer in whatever you are meant to do, there is no competition!

I like this idea Nate. When i started my channel i told a few friends then after i just allowed my channel to grow organically and as you said there is already an audience. Now in my second year on youtube my channel audience as grown to over 5000 subscribers.

100 % Nate. I told myself the same thing a while back; even if my videos only got through to one person I’d still keep making videos. And I do, my channel is small, haven’t had it going super long. I don’t get much in terms of thumbs up or comments but the ones I do get here and there are a nice little surprise and it gives you that added fuel to try and provide the best content that you can 😉

I needed a mindset shift. My channel only grows by seven or eight people a day and sometimes it’s discouraging-Thank you so much for the encouragement!

I think watching you go through this transition has shown me that above anything else, RU-vid is about connection, and about people. Because we as an audience are here for YOU because we have grown to trust you and love you through a screen. But then i watch you say that you are here for US and it’s just really cool. I do believe my audience is out there, and I think early mistakes have harmed the channel by not getting the videos in front of the right audience. It does feel like that is changing slowly. Life got in the way too for a while with my parents dementia, part of the reason I film what I do, to bring Britain and its history nearer to those who cant get out there for themselves. Thank you so much! I’ve been working on starting up a channel little by little getting things together. So I took this thought process and applied it to my latest video I recorded it. I'm fixing to start editing it now. But it was a day I was supposed to do one thing, it didn't work out but turned out to be a much more awesome day anyway. I decided "this is real life, this is the exact community I set out to meet, I should capture this moment and share how the day changed". I knew my core audience (which is small) would appreciate it. But I tried to be very confident as if I had 1M subscribers. Even if this video flops, it will be one of my favorite videos that I will always cherish simply because it is so real.
