It's a sad commentary on today's digital age , when a channel that is honest and truly authentic such as yours gets caught up in this kind of crap. Yeah, you've got to remember that these scammers are professionals; they do it all day and they get paid for it. You can be super smart and still fall for this.
"drawer" not "draw". But yes, these types of scams catch lots of people. I noticed a number of channels that all had the same weird "Microsoft News" or similar with the Bill Gates stream recording. I don't get what the end-game was there, as they weren't showing content that was of benefit to them. Maybe it was a long-game to take over channels. At work, they test us all the time with fake phishing emails, to see if we report them or click them. It's serious business. But, the fact that he DOES have full backups shows he's way more advanced than many other people. This should be recognized. Unrelated: I don't get why 15 people would down-vote this video. I know down-votes are a thing everyone deals with, but unless they are bots, that is just weird.
@@Psychlist1972 The game was: Bill Gates, well-known for his generosity, has taken a heart to give away 6000 Bitcoins, double amount of krypto-$ for every krypto-$ you send to the account/address showing up when you start the video. Waiting at the address was most probably a happy scammer raking the kryptos in while smearing the name of Bill Gates. Ha ha. Not funny as you know 1 krypto of this special brand pays USD 6760.86 at this moment. (April 4, 2020) Maximum was 20 krypto=130.000 USD to receive (wait long time for) 260.000 USD.

@Andrew, I can attest to that. I spent 20 years at a network helpdesk solving datacom troubles and one of my personal websites still got hacked. No matter how smart you are, there's always some scammer out there who knows something you don't.

My names Rick I’m from Montana I work out at Hanford these days I’ve been a Millwright for 40 years and I want to thank you for your time and effort you’ve put into rescuing this vanishing Wheelwright trade. I would love to be able to show people how to hand cut auger flights and build hexagon augurs and how to lace rawhide drive belts but I just don’t have the opportunity to do that kind of work for anybody anymore. Making hardwood bearings and wooden bull wheels for industrial plants just doesn’t exist. So thank you again for all your effort I know how much time it takes to edit a video. I ran across the series you did on the 20 mule team borax build a few years ago. I was hooked. My dad worked for Pacific Coast Borax Company in Wilmington, CA for over 20 years. I shared those videos with my brother who worked at the plant during the summer to earn money for college. I grew up watching Death Valley Days (which for a couple of its 18 year run was hosted by President Ronald Reagan). Anywho enough of memory lane, I continue to be amazed by your skills and craftsmanship and look forward every week to a new video. Great to have you back.
Dave, I'm one of those "IT" guys and I'm glad to see you back. I love your work. I'd recommend you use 2 factor authentication (2fa) for your google account and channel. Use your browser in "incognito Mode" or "Private Windows". Get a couple of browsers installed. I use one for Banking, one for general stuff internet, and one for just random browsing. Keeping them separate keeps general surfing from impacting important stuff. Use very good passwords and use different passwords for everything. Any you can write them down. No one has ever had anyone break into their physical address and steal their notepad with passwords on them. I am not preaching, just sharing some of my 30 years of experience. Glad to have you back.
Good words to the wise. I didn't have, but now do have 2fa. I'm right on track with your other recommends also and I never store a password on the computer.

I had unsubscribed when I started seeing “Microsoft News” in my feed, and went to figure out why that was there, because I hadn’t subscribed to such a channel... then went to your web site to inform you of the hack, but your web site already had the notice that you knew and youtube was working on it. You sir are a Master Craftsman. I have resubscribed, and look forward to more videos.
I wish I was smart enough to know how to do all that! The best I was able to do was leave a comment on the clock video, asking if they knew something was wrong.

Glad you have been able to get your channel back. My trip to Big Sk was cut short. Got to Bozeman on Saturday. Drove to Big Sky. Got checked in. Fitted ski’s. Then that night. They said the slopes was closing after Sunday. So, I spent Sunday getting flight tickets out on Monday. I will have to come visit next year. If the lord is willing. I’ll keep watching.

Dave. I discovered your channel sometime -after- the hacking began. I did see a couple comments on some videos about you being hacked, at that time, but thought it had already been managed. In the time since I discovered your channel though, I have watched some 30 HOURS of your videos! It is a joy to watch you work, knowing where every tool is and just getting work DONE not spending too much time explaining every step when we'll understand by watching .. seeing a wheel come together from a stack of lumber, seeing you cut a brand new machine in half with a hacksaw to repurpose it to your own needs and not spending hours talking about the physics involved, it's a very calm atmosphere and some absolutely *stunning* results! After subscribing, I went to your video list and started at the oldest video, systematically watching each one, clicking like to mark my place and give your channel some support, and moving to the next one in the list, and so on up to the gorgeous vinyl top videos, which is what I was watching when I tried to add a comment but it wouldn't load the comment section and I refreshed the page and it said that your account had been terminated. Honestly, Sir, I was heartbroken.... In my opinion, loosing this archieve would honestly be the very same as a museum full of wagons and wheels burning to the ground .. You've amassed yourself a historic monument here and it would be a national tragedy for it to be lost!! Now that you are back, I fully intend to watch each and every video you have posted, starting back with the vinyl top. PLEASE keep doing this, PLEASE backup all your videos, PLEASE make a donation or contribution of your videos to the Smithsonian or somewhere that will reserve them for generations, because your work needs to be seen, and needs to be remembered. This happen to another creator's channel I watch last summer. He couldn't jump through all the forms with YT to recover his videos. He wasn't an IT man either and lost over 180 videos, but put up a new channel. I'm glad for all the help from the YT family of support a great community of viewers. Thanks to everyone OH my wife got me a go-pro for Christmas and I haven't figured out how to use it yet I guess I'm just not a IT tech either.
