A heartfelt thank you, Dr. Abramson, for providing this RU-vid vehicle to learn Jewish History with you. I've so enjoyed your RU-vid videos, AllDaf video "noshes" and Zooms from around the country and around the world (Hungary, the cruises etc.). All of them together, have provided me with chronology and context for, and integration of, the decades worth of what before seemed to be random shiurim I have attended since I graduated school. Before, I either heard or read so much material on the fly, in shul, in summer camp, on vacation, commuting on the subway, in adult ed programs since my years of Modern Orthodox Day School. It all seemed like One Big Jumble... with names of scholars, cities, commentaries or wars I heard about again and again.... I sort of had a timeline, but not a deeper examination of explanatory factors, or have real insight to *what it all meant*. Your material, delivered in such a scholarly and accessible way, has finally knit together for me so much of our Jewish History, Jewish Texts and their Commentary in such a personally meaningful way. You've not only illuminated my Daf, but inspired me to continue my Jewish learning in both history and texts for the rest of my life. Your material has made me even prouder to be a Jew, and to continue the chain of passing on Jewish knowledge that alas so many of my ancestors in The Shoah did not live to do. Congratulations, Dr. Abramson. It's an awesome achievement to have spread the word about many so subjects within your discipline to so many people. I can never repay my debt to you. COVID was particularly challenging for me, and I felt the isolation deeply - mainly during the day - alone at the office without any employees, which I've had since 1993. No one is built for that. Your "biography as history" videos resonated particularly strongly for me, especially when I felt a deep sense of discouragement. The RAMBAM, Nachmanides, Hasdai Ibn Shaprut, and so many others that you covered, clearly demonstrated the special power of persistence and faith. I've binge-watched your videos in the ICU after neurosurgery. TWICE. I also have to thank the you (and the YT algorithm) for Sam Aronow's channel. BTW: My daughter took a history class last year and they read "Pogroms: A Documentary History, by Eugene Avrutin" She brought her books home when she returned for the summer. Of course I checked the bibliography (what a nerd!) and there you were. Again, congrats. That must be very satisfying! Lately I've noticed that many of the podcasts I follow have been doing sizeable "Live Shows". The Rewatchables is a good example. I'm sure you could fill a sizeable hall in short order, especially for a great cause like Jewish History. I look forward to shaking hands or bumping fists one day.
