Sounds great, nice to hear there is a difference between the 3 and 5. For a medium to large room, are we looking at Hegel H120 or H190 minimums? (or naim XS vs Supernait)

I heard the Lumina 3 recently and they were very pleasant. A sound that a lot of people would enjoy. Definitely a coloured sound and in my opinion a very rich sound. Unfortunately though I would not buy them myself for long term listening as that colouration would get to me. I had the same problem with a couple of sets of B&W, and once I put my finger on the problem I could not unhear it as lovely as they were. I'm just fussy so don't take my crtiticism to seriously.

If you're used to old neutral sonus faber sound. The kind of sound Franco Serblin built upon, you'll find that the Lumina line sound is a departure from it. The slight boost in the treble had made the SF sound more livelier and vibrant. The energised sound is there and to some people it gets in the way. For me personally, i don't mind. There are times when I want a bit of colour to my sound that's not too harsh and the Lumina provided it for me.

Is the uprade from lumina 3 to lumina 5 worth it? I have the lumina 3s and love them, my dealer has the 5s as well. Or better to add a subwoofer to my lumina 3? Or should i upgrade to sonettos?? Oh my this hifi stuff really is a rabbit hole init

Great review guys! I'm looking to get new towers for music in my listening room, which is small (11x14) so I need more compact tower that I can place close to the wall. These Sonus Faber LUMINA V seem to check all my boxes!

Hi Anthony, did you get the Lumina V in the end? My room is the same size as yours and I really want this speaker but I'm worried that it might be too big for the room (?)

@@adamlitchfield3371 No I went with bookshelfs instead. After researching I bought the Synchrony B600 Bookshelf speakers and matching speaker stands and they are perfect in my room and sound amazing.

Whether you want to get into the industry for the first time or don't want to spend 5 figures for a system, the value offered by these speakers along with an entry-level integrated cannot be beaten. Just be careful, you will not stop there :)

Another speaker with graft value is the Triangle 40th Anniversary Comète ($2200 USD) - it’s a stand mount that, to my ears and in my system, is very balanced. Bass is very good though of course not exceedingly deep - most of the time is more than adequate, especially in my small room. I know Adrian doesn’t carry Triangle, so he can delete this if he wants! LOL. In any case, there ARE good values in gear these days, you just have to do a lot of research, listen with your own ears, etc.

Very detailed and informative review, thank you! Could you also review the Sonetto V in a similar way, in order to make a meaningful comparison between the two? One point of concern for me are the spikes: are they long enough, in either speaker, to penetrate a thick carpet with a 12mm underlay? Also, which would be better for a listening distance of about 10 feet, with ear-height about 3 feet above the floor?

Vilip, when you say the bass comes from "out of nowhere", co you mean that it's unexpected from a speaker that size/price of that the sound is tilted/unbalanced?

Nice impression review. If your mostly into digital you would likely be looking at DAC in the USD 500-1000 range, would that make a big difference in how the Lumina 5 sounds or is thus upgrade worth it? Nice thing is the speaker looks like friendly to budget gear. And sounds fantastic for the price. Nice.

Is the person recording the video not monitoring the audio? Use noise headphones that block out external sounds, that way, you only hear the audio coming through the mics… it will be very obvious if there is an issue, and you can fix it right away!

@@PanAmStyle Yeaaaah.. but a Adrian notes to time stamp it.. It’s all good, I like the guys .. but better if they labeled “general talk about stuff… that includes…. Speaker/ amp” then you’d know… But our mate while he gives great advice a perspective… can tend to constantly interrupt the flow on the vid and info… They already do other chat vids, there tge tome for that
