Forget anyone that says "you're not a real filmmaker if you RU-vid". Those people are either jealous that they cant be in front of the camera OR they're too afraid to be in front of the camera so they (sometimes) decide to just be bitter, hateful fucks. You do you Matt.
RU-vid is almost 20 years old, dv was an option before the dslr revolution, the dslr revolution started in 1999… there’s nothing new under the sun as far as independent filmmaking… go out and make films, not content… content isn’t filmmaking, but the only thing that stops people from being a filmmaker is… making films. Phones have been better then the canon xl1 which numerous films were made in the 90’s that got theatrical release.
i have been struggling with that for so long. Back in my home town ... people look at me as a director, most do not even know what it means, and some still call me a youtuber (that is how I started ...). For reasons of online positioning, I stopped youtube and focused on marketing myself and my work as a director. It has helped loads, but I also miss youtube.
