This will help a lot definitely. Last few months I have been doing lots of shorts and reels, and I found out that the most important thing is to have some kind of strategy when posting these. People now like expressive and short content, so I make those and post them consistently (after posting something I usually use a bit of Fame- ster. It's a game-changer, and makes my content viral almost instantly). The other strategy part is to watch how many times you post, how much you create, so you could possibly avoid burnout 😀

I'm so stoked for this new update as I currently only create shorts on my channel (185k). I teach outdoor survival and camping content and always find it extremely hard to get everything in under 60 seconds. Now, I can find some breathing room and actually do some storytelling along the way!

I made a full time rev off shorts, but i switched to long but some my old shorts are still slapping and kept me making good rev every day, when i get a viral long form it is a no Brainer, but shorts def kept me in the money as they are evergreen. RU-vid is the goat.

The fact your long term didn't suffer since publishing shorts. Many of us, our long form is dead in the water. Shorts in now like 98% of rev. If they increase the revenue from Shorts, I'd go all in. But I agree how they are evergreen. Something posted over a year ago still gives me a $ a day lol

I’ve been in this game a long time, RU-vid since Nov 2006. At the end of the day, never attempt to use copyrighted content no matter what licensing changes come. They can always change their terms. It’s a lot of work but I make all my own content and music to stay safe and it’s always worked

Hey. I have to things to add to your comment. I do weekly reaction videos to cooking videos. I post the entire video inside of mine. I have been hit with copy right during the checks part of the upload every time I do a food network video. Everything I just fill out the appeal and have not lost once yet. Second point. I started making 3 shorts out of each of my long videos. So I'll post a reaction on Monday. Then the shorts Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Doing this has caused my video impressions to increase by 90%. I need to do a better job at thumbnails and titles to capitalize on this though

RU-vid needs to fix how they manage promoting your long form content after you have a shorts video that goes viral. I had a shorts video that went viral and afterwards I couldn’t get any views on my long form content. I had to “unlisted” my viral shorts video to get views on my long form content again.

The fact you made $2000 off 10m is still insane. Some of us have a RPM of 2 or 3 cents. Do you think the RPM will go up for longer shorts ? Makes no sense for us to spend more time editing a longer short and get the same RPM. I've noticed low effort quick upload shorts do better than edits that take me hours to do. Make it make sense

I do mostly political commentary, interviews and quick news comments. The 3 minutes shorts for me seems like a dream solution, because all I need to do is take a small segment of a broader video, and use it for reaching a broader audience. 1 minute has been always very strict to me, but 3 mins is the top that I almost set for my self for this kind of shorts videos. I'm not looking to monetize with this 3 mins shorts, but to bring people to the channel and to get into the long format videos.

Im happy about this personally. My channel was originally about my experiences in prison, but after a while, i pretty much told all the story's i could, without being too repetitive. I moved to crime shorts, and they seem to be doing pretty good. (Numbers wise) Im interested to see if this longer "short" opportunity will allow for a more in-depth reaction and commentary. Just make it 3 minutes and 5 seconds. You'll be close to what they're trying to push, and you'll make more money. Shorts don't pay. Remember the creators are ultimately in control. YT reacts to us, not the other way around

This is crazy because so many channels especially younger people have 1+ min long VERTICAL videos that have always uploaded as actual RU-vid videos and contributed to their watch time. A lot of these channels have RU-vid as their second or third platforms though where tiktok is their main and they usually repost the tiktok which is just a bit longer than a min to RU-vid. But now they’ll all upload as shorts because rarely they’re over 3 min. I wonder how this will effect their watch time, monetization etc.

I got 23% (watching both) crossover between Videos and Shorts 19% crossover between Videos and Live and 11% crossover between Shorts and live My shorts are just pieces of my videos content though with captions and some extra ai generated b roll from opus clip. I like this update because I can make longer shorts that will help me when it comes to TikTok monitization since I just post the same clips across all platforms. I don't have the time to tailor content for each platform. But I'm the "expert teaching stuff, platform agnostic" person you were talking about.

Great video, it made us think about this more. I watch you long form, but I tend to scroll past your shorts… just being honest. In the office I can put one of your longs up and multi task without the short subject changing every 60 seconds. With that said - we get short viewers and much less (much) long form. That's great. 60 secs is too short. It's actually 58 secs~ 59 secs because when it reaches or passes 59 secs, it becomes long form.

I like long form videos personally because it’s easier to pull up my favorite channel and listen while I am either cleaning my house or getting ready in the morning or when I’m getting ready to go to bed at night , this way l I don’t have to keep scrolling. However, from a content creator perspective, I would get a little frustrated when I would only have 60 seconds to do a short, so I am glad they did increase it.

🎼When Shorts first started on RU-vid, they were great for my channel at first. I produce and post original music but also do mashups and remixes and most of my songs are in between 2.5 to 3.5 minutes. This is going to be huge for the music industry being that the average song length now at days is 3 minutes. The DJ/ Producer world will be crazy affected. What are your thoughts??

@@ThinkMediaTV For me...I sometimes (read all the time for shorts) I do time lapse laser engraving videos and post them. It isn't as thought provoking as a long of as creative as a long. The value if you will come from adding an end card to link to a full video, where you discuss the whatever. Kinda like taking your chapters and putting a 3 minute "plug" with the end card. Life is happy.

Current shorts for my channel are tough to do what I want. I use shorts to tell my subscribers what my plans are for the week. Then follow up with a longer video later in the week. 90 seconds shorts for me would of have been helpful. I also I have gotten more subscribers through my shorts. I am excited for 3 minute shorts. But will typically work harder on the long formats.

Thanks for this clarification. The music thing - is it the music 60 seconds, or the video 60 seconds? I am considering hitting showing fewer shorts. I'd be on tik tok if I wanted to be force fed shorts. However why don;t they just do watch hours count across both? Surely watch hours are watch hours. it'll balance. Question "over a minute" Is that what they mean? a minute or a minute and over? so is it up to 60 seconds or over 60 seconds? does it include exactly 60 seconds?

Shawn..Curious why creators, providing educational content like this who are speaking directly to the viewer have shifted to the multi camera angle. It’s feels unnatural and awkward. I don’t enjoy it as a viewer. If I’m listening to someone talk to me, they don’t turn their head away for minutes and talk in a different direction. It’s feels awkward and over produced. 10:12 Still new to in car food reviews, I’ve found my videos usually take 8 mins to shoot, but I edit them down to 4-6 mins. Then, I create a short from that. Honestly, I prefer shorter content so the 3-minute video limit works great for me. I wonder if the copyright stuff was the only way they could bargain with the music industry. Maybe they had pressure from them? I also wonder if this also a means to push more people to make videos longer than 3 minutes which in RU-vid’s eyes might help increase overall watch/session times.

I have an outdoors, hiking, camping and kayaking channel and I make my own content without any copyright issues. The RU-vid algorithm works in strange ways when it comes to the current shorts. In my case it seems that my viewership gets to the 500s mark and then suddenly stops and I don’t know why? Maybe it’s because when you are a small channel it’s programmed that way and doesn’t give you the opportunity to get bigger? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I need to go look at the recordings. It’s been a struggle all summer and especially the last couple weeks, and I needed a mental health break. I did register for it and got the text message prompts. I do a short every Monday and a long form on Thursday. I use my shorts for one question posits and to “advertise” my longer form videos and video series. I’ve got a few that ended up being a minute and a half that I put shorts in the title anyway, that couldn’t be shortened any due to the topic. **Stealing content tip: when you upload to RU-vid, make sure you uncheck the box that says your content can be remixed. There are 2 sections for this so don’t just do the one and then scroll on through, there is another one on that same page.

Recently I realised my shorts being listed as copyright strikes issue. However those musics are from RU-vid itself so I wonder why such things happened.. I have to delete a few of them and I raised dispute to RU-vid hopefully they don't ban my channel for doing so

This is interesting. As a kid's channel just starting out, I'm focused on my longer videos as my videos are to help kids slow down and relax. But I could easily increase my Shorts to 3 minutes and my long videos to 10 mins - same strategy in a way as I have now just a little more focus from the targeted audience required, especially when it comes to the Shorts. It could mean lower Average View Rate per video too because most videos doing well on Shorts literally are 15-30 seconds at most, which means lower pay rate if your Shorts aren't being savoured long enough, possibly?

IDK I'm just starting out on RU-vid but I like the 15 second shorts, My Videos are just three or four minutes long. And yes, I realize it's going to take a long time to get my Watch hours because of that, but I'm not into watching long videos myself. I get bored so perhaps I'm projecting that to my audience. 🤔 But I'm always up to swivel and swerve, to make changes, that are more productive or at least test things out. 💫
