blacksmith here, if anyone was interested, one of the reasons the blade snapped, was due to quenching in water. 1084 is an oil quenching steel, and since water cools the steel significantly faster than oil, this makes the post-quench grain structure much smaller and the steel becomes more brittle. the rapid and inconsistant shrinking of the steel also likely introduced microfractures which certainly won't have helped.

This is a list of plants that I noticed in the video, cause I know that everyone is begging for some plant identification. -When Alex opens the door, on the wall behind the cops is a Platycerium super bum (Staghorn). Along the edge of the path are Leriope giganteum. -The hedge that Alex burned is Viburnum odoratissimum (Sweet viburnum) -The pot plant that Alex used to try to flatten the sword is Citrus x latifolia (Tahitian lime), and there was also a small Crassula ovata (Jade) in the pot. -The vine on the back fence is Trachelospermum jasminoides (Jasmine) -The plant behind the boys when they are chopping the fish is Spathiphyllum wallisii 'Sensation' (Giant peace lily) -I am unsure what the large tree is in the yard, couldn't see the leaves.

To explain what happened with the beer cans and why they were sliced at a weird angle, each one fell over to the side as it was being cut. Meaning that the base of it was not resting on the table, but it was tipped over at a 45° angle or so. as it was being cut in half, the cuts moved from the bottom to the top of the can, even though the sword was moving flat parallel to the table. When the cans were upright resting flat on the table, the cuts seemed to angle in an upward direction.
