Here’s what I think about it. Mr.Beast started a separate channel for his Shorts, and I guarantee he received information directly from RU-vid telling him to do this. The watch time from shorts will hurt your long form content.
I was gonna say this, mr beast is the greatest person to analyse, because of his success and what he knows. I’m a small channel, and I don’t really wanna spam short videos, and also not get my long videos the attention they need, so I think a separate channel, and linking it back to your main Would be a good idea, at least then RU-vid knows if you do shorts, to push your shorts, gets to know your content, if you mix it up, may be harder (unless your an already bigger you tuber with a lot of viewers).
I think as a small creator if i would make a separate account it wouldn't be that impactful for my channel but i don't really like how crowded the video tab gets with all the shorts you quickly overlook the actual videos i want people to watch, they should introduce a shorts tab i think that would solve the problem and it would be more efficient aswell.
Here's my thoughts experimenting with it as a small channel. Shorts have definitely increased my subs and has increased my average percentage viewed by a lot. On the flip side my average view duration plummeted. With shorts I'm averaging around 30 seconds, long form content averages around 23 minutes give or take. So now my concern is the plummet in my view duration is going to really hurt my main channel.
@@motorcycle-man Same here now that it is a month later. I definitely saw an effect on my channel. While I gained a fair number of subs compared to my usual monthly number, I saw a big decline in overall views. Takeaway for now. I do a short once in a while but not regularly.
@@spurgaming5400 Yeah I think I'm gonna get my channel up to 1K using shorts and then abandon it. I think. Not sure lol. It's so weird that the long form to suffer as much but I totally get why pretty much all bigger channels have separate shorts accounts.
Yep, just starting on RU-vid and I have the same issue. Not only that, shorts are not esthetic... So when landing on the channel's page, that's all we see
I think adding a short channel may be the way to go because... on the days I get ambitious and make several shorts, I'm afraid that my long video watchers will unsub me for getting so many "new video" notifications. Is this logical thinking?
yes and no. They honestly won't care. And for the few people who do, you don't want them anyways. Get subscribers that enjoy watching anything you put out. Make a personality for yourself, don't get stuck in the same genre, for if that genre stops working, you should be able to branch out to different types of content.
@@iVeggie True, making sure you have a positive audience is good too rather than trying to please everyone for them only and ignoring your time, effort, and even mental health when creating content and editing for a long period of time. The struggle is low-key real and usually overseen. Although I would say to even the odds, ask your audience by a poll or something and eventually update the poll question every once in a while after gaining a certain amount of subscribers this way you could work whatever your audience does and doesn't mind because the notifications may actually become a problem. I feel they slowly affect the audience after once a while of thinking you have new long content out when it turns out it's just a youtube short. They'll probably be like okay fine sure I'll watch, but then after a while lose hope of seeing a long video being posted.
@@DavidWalshOnline I just wanted to ask if we can monetize our shorts channel and make money out of it? Like some of my videos have got 1k views and my most viewed vid has 4.9k views but i have only 62 subs... What should I do???
Hi David! I’m using shorts on my main channel and most of my new views come from shorts. I was uploading a short daily but I’m considering slowing down that pace to give my longer videos more attention. I have had a couple of people unsubscribe because they don’t like the format. For entertainment videos shorts are such an awesome way to get seen. The only issue is that people who want education only don’t enjoy the “fluff”. However my shorts will sometimes get thousands of views - one got 78,000 views as opposed to my regular long format that start with a couple of hundred views. Shorts are a great opportunity but I get mixed advice about them. One consultant told me to do a minimum of one daily for maximum results. Another told me just one a week. They have definitely brought traffic to my channel, but whether they will be long term subscribers I really don’t know.
I created a shorts channel a few days ago the the forth video i posted got 1.6k views in a day and the the rest of the videos have less then 10 views. Wonder whats im doing wrong
I don’t really know what to do with shorts. What I will say though is that my views went mental last week when I picked up an egg yolk. I then did a long-form video showing why it was a prank. The short video did much better than the long one though
I created a new channel today it's a Short video because I had more views in creating a short. This is my Short Video Channel hope this will grow soon. Thanks for review
Sir ur experiment on shorts channel helped me realize that even big creators r not guaranteed million of views on shorts!! Its like a toss of a coin, some get lucky n others don't!!
Hi David and everyone here! I started uploading my first vid last year and since then I stopped aswell. ahaha! but I guess this short vids is a great opportunity for a RU-vid start up! wish me luck!
i am confused.. i am a new RU-vidr, and made 2 channels . one for shorts and other one is the main channel.. what would I do? plz answer..should I upload shorts on my main channel or upload to separate channel ?
Hi David.. Thank you for helpful information. But I'm confused.. Im having only one channel and I'm uploading long and short videos. One of my short video gone viral and got 1M and from that I got some subscribers. But my long video not getting views.. So do you think I must start new channel for long video??? Can you help me David?😊
Thank you David! Very useful tips. I have the same burning question, whether to upload to same channel or create a separate "shorts" channel like the skateboarding company did. I have this scenario. One of my RU-vid music channels is a Guitar lessons channel, which has been there for nearly 8yrs. Since I played the original tune and then did a chords tutorial, RU-vid deranked them thinking these aren't original content. This is the reason, when I search for the content on youtube, I don't get my videos on the result because of the same low rank (this is my guess). Now that I am getting into shorts, and they are copyright free original content, I don't want to upload them on main channel because it will have the same fate of low discoverability of the main channel. I am better off creating a separate shorts channel. Is this a right approach?
when i check shorts video from youtube studio, i found monetization option still available, so I enabled, while youtube said monetizing is not working for shorts. can you explain pls?
Hey David, i tried posting shorts in my main channel but the views are the reach are really really low and there is no reach but on the other hand mu Instagram is growing insane with the same sorts. I am now planning to create a seprate shorts channel and t maintain this channel for long form contents, any suggestions? I have small subscriber base only so it’s now when i can experiment.
Thanks David, as I have a travel vlog channel, I was confused about whether to make a new channel for shorts or shall I put it on this channel, thanks for clearing it out!!
Nice content Dave..really like it .. In the end I guess we shall start a new shorts.. As I have around 180k subscribers usually have 10k to 20k views...and shorts are coming only at 1k or 2k views... What does that mean ??
I'm sticking with the same channels as they are both small, so growing them are my focus. Love testing this new format and learning how to created related content. I do create reals for Instagram, and what is interesting what works for us on Instagram does not seem to work on RU-vid, and vice versa. but it is a great learning curve and David raises some great points.
Thank you! If I am looking for organic leads from shorts, is having a shorts only channel going to be better or worse than having a yt channel with longer videos? My goal is to get people interested in my services to view shorts and inquire. I'm not concerned with monetization as much, at the moment 😎
I have a question what if me and a person are doing a collab and we want to upload almost the same video to each channels but with different outros and intros and endings can we do it with permission from the person we are collaborating? Or will we get copyrighted claimed?
Hi david plz help🙏🙏🙏olz help i have start shorts 5 videos done but not increasing views. Before tjat i start a channel because of pblm i wamt quit it. On that channel ingot 9.2k views but now i start new 😔now its not increasing waht to fo🙏🙏😥😥😥😥😥😥. I got depressed
I make Shorts in my channel and I add #shorts in the title and description and tag! And the title is less than 40 characters! And the video is under 60 seconds! But it's not considered short on RU-vid! Please help!
