A transwoman that had been hounded by Littlejohn just killed herself, and the mail hurriedly erased all of his columns attacking her. But the internet never forgets. Anyway, did me good to see him mocked here.
@Paul Morris Because of a witch hunt against her started by the press, Littlejohn in particular. In fact she had voiced her feelings to the Press Complaints Commission about Littlejohn harassing her but to no avail.
I'm sure there are plenty of instances when it does go awry, but in my experience the vast majority of the time when somebody says 'political correctness gone mad', nobody has been arrested or anything and what they really mean is 'Somebody is disagreeing with and criticizing me and now i have to defend my indefensible position.' Some people have very weird ideas about freedom of speech. All it is is protection from the government (with a long list of caveats), it is not freedom from criticism or speech without consequences. Being called a bigot is not restricting your right, it is somebody else excercising theirs.
Liam J I would agree with you, except I don't see people calling people 'bigots', I see people demanding that someone be arrested or fined for being a bigot. I also see political correctness being used to silence people simply for disagreeing with someone, in exactly the reverse way you've just described. You cannot talk about the problem of 'Islamism' (which is _not_ the same as 'Muslims') without instantly being dismissed as a 'racist'. I do not call this political correctness going a bit 'awry', I call it batshit fucking insane.
E101ification There are always extremists, and often they have the loudest voices. Nothing new there. Religion, politics, etc. It doesn't mean the idea itself was a bad thing.
@@blobblob9775 Wanting to stop shaming is to take away people's freedom of expression. If someone wants to shame a racist, that is well within their rights.
In 1964 or 1965 we 100 primary school children watched as a girl of nine years old was force fed by the head teacher, Miss Jones, until the child vomited and ran to the toilet for self protection by locking herself in. It was her last day in school. She had broken down and was sent away to a school for the Educationally Sub Normal. She was treated this way because her father was an unemployed lorry driver. Nobody complained. The teachers was regarded as well within her rights. She exercised her freedom. Her colleague described her to me as ‘traditional’. Others as ‘firm but fair’. I’d like to punch her face but she is already dead. Thank goodness teachers are no forbidden from destroying children. The regime in that school was MAD. Political Correctness was a term invented by Conservatives to defend the indefensible.
Man that health and safety line could have been written today with regard to trump telling that bloke to take his mask off. Im pretty sure it was, someone nicked it and posted it on twitter. Joe Pasquale's let himself go
I do like that he described PC as "often clumsy" because there definitely are cases of clumsiness. Despite lots of stories being made up, there have been cases of teachers encouraging kids to sing "baa baa rainbow sheep" and silly stuff like that - but the salient point is rather than being a symptom of PC gone mad, it's in fact one individual person being a little overcautious and trying to protect themselves by censoring something that no-one reasonable would ever find offensive. They are minor incidents at best. But of course they make good headlines when splashed all over the Daily Mail.
Even the particular example you used was mischaracterized and had nothing to do with political correctness, the teacher was giving children an example of creativity, taking existing things and changing them into other things. Some parent decided to view this as 'political correctness' and then the daily mail morphed that into children being BANNED from singing the original song, which led to a nationwide hysteria. Of course there certainly are real examples of attempts at inclusive language being clumsy or unwieldy, but even if that never happened you can be certain the right wing would fabricate nonsense to justify being able to frame "not calling people the n word" as somehow a societal evil.
When I was young I believed in mixed economy, I still do, but I have always had a right-wing edge in me, but I am glad for people like Stuart Lee and Mark Steel, because they pull me back from the edge of unchecked stupidity.
I don't think people realize that Stewart Lee's act is to take an idea to its logical conclusion (i.e. Jerry Springer The Opera.) In this case, it's the "political correctness gone mad" mantra. His politics aren't as simple as people believe.
Something something lazy comment about someone letting themselves go because it's a Stewart Lee video... Something something pear cider with 100% upvotes please.
Peanut butter fudge................ Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and milk. Bring to the boil and boil for 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat. Stir in peanut butter and vanilla. Pour over icing sugar in a large mixing bowl. Beat until smooth; pour into a 20cm square baking dish. Chill until firm and cut into squares.
I meant to say nothing, and it was itself a reference to the joke in the show, about how being the 41st best stand up is like being the 41st tallest dwarf.
My fave part of this joke is the way the crowd laughed at the end of the second part of the chiselling thinking that was the end of the joke....not knowing he was gonna get another 5 minutes out of doing that
Intelligence can be hugely subjective. Theorists suggest that there are multiple intelligences. It is definitely not something that is quantifiable by your ability at Mathematics or Science alone.
Lee is diverting, is not about the death of those women, but about manipulation of language. The criticism to political correctness has moral weight, but Lee exaggerates and brings barbarism to mock that criticism, producing an hypothetical association. He merely reflects himself in these tactics. A supposedly intelligent comic serving an agenda. One more residue.
@@gregh378 It is possible that the point wasn't missed. 'Wokeness' is used as an accusation by reactionaries in much the same was a 'political correctness gone mad was' by reactionaries 10-20 years ago.

Won't this world be so much better when we all - all of us - have SCRIPTS? Daily scripts? Here is what you can say in the morning - here is what you can say at noon - here is what you can say at dinner. It's gonna be GREAT. In fact, why even rely on WORDS. We are pretty close to being able to simply program THOUGHT. Take the "burden" off the individual - just pre-determine what people can think or say. Favorite color? That's offensive. THIS is your favorite color - same as everyone else. It's gonna be GREAT! When nobody can be offended, we will be truly FREE! A world of cunts.
Love Stewart. I wonder what he thinks of the current climate. The use of the N word in this set might see him banned from venues, or at the very least get this particular set banned from showing. PC really has gone mad
em diar Stewart Lee is a clueless faux-liberal Islamophile. The closing 'joke' is pathetic - I was actually hoping for, for the sake of his own dignity, something clever towards the end when all he closed with was 'Richard Littlejohn - cunt'. There was also no logic to the piece because a report about serial attacks on, e.g., bus drivers would not say 'people who work as' bus drivers, and a headstone typically does not refer to a person's occupation first up. Just a desperate progressive with a cheesy agenda.
they have banned xmas...so ahead of his time. some people are often confused how i am quite right wing and like stewart lee. You guys do understand he is portraying a character.
Noone has banned Xmas. You have to believe misinformation like that to be right wing. Yes, he's portraying a character here. Mostly one of the whiners who bitch and moan about "PC has gone mad" because they can't spout bigotry all day long without receiving criticism.

Right wingers are much funnier. It’s a proven fact. Just look at all the right wing comedians filling the comedy clubs at the expense of those lefty non funny people.
What a fool. As if there's no middle ground between what he describes and the hypersensitive climate of public discourse in current society. Typical fallacy of the false choice.
@@Nickmariners This isn't comedy! He doesn't run around the stage and talk about "that thing everybody does" Ask everyone in the front row what their names are then tell them their jobs are crap, doesn't say "Your mum" to hecklers or tell jokes with punchlines. Comedy should be about picking on the obvious and minority groups for cheap laughs, like Bernard Manning or Chubby Brown.
I disagree, I don't think he is intelligent at all. I've read some of his articles on the guardian and I find his critical thinking skills to be totally lacking. You can tell he never did anything mathematical or scientific in his life -- his intellect just isn't up to it.
The fact that you think intelligence can only exist in those who chose to take up careers in mathematics or science, proves that you lack intelligence. Ironic don't you think?
political correctness hasn't gone mad.. it is mad.. "people still get killed for the wrong colour or the wrong sexuality" but he doesn't think political correctness is mad..
I don't think he's saying that. He's saying that people tend to skew their views of what is politically correct and what isn't. He's not really weighing it in a black and white scale, he's saying that people don't seem to understand the parameters of political correctness.
Disagree. Political correctness has in many instances been an affront to common sense. The absurd level of (well intentioned?) do-goodery has been extremely patronising to be quite honest. It has also stripped our language of some of its nuanced richness and societies deeper understanding of terms. Leaving us with a bland, sort of neutral grey/off white palette with which to paint.
It's quite the opposite. Sex worker brings nuance because it's a long array of jobs that could be included by men and women that doesn't even have to involve sex, prostitute implies something else
Stewart is clever but always deliberately misrepresents certain topics that don't align with his heavy left wing ideologies, brilliant comedian though. Pity he is so politically one sided
