Thanks for the review! I'm really proud of this yo-yo. Although concave bearings help keep the string far from the sides of the yo-yo, I think they start to feel grabby when you start layering strings. I feel like flat bearings have an easier time moving around as you layer strings, where concave (or grooved) bearings push the strings against each other. So instead of pushing the string away from the inner walls, I use schmoove grooves to reduce the amount of those walls the string could rub against. I am interested in your idea that some bearings work better with some yo-yos, and I have to admit there are a few times I like concave bearings. Maybe high walls and flat bearings just go better together?
I think you’re completely right about that! I do think, from my experience, that high walled yoyos do better with flat bearings. I think center weighted throws do well with flats too.
I dunno if you ever figured it out, but a center track bearing has more surface to string contact, and this results in greater procession. Because of the way mass is distributed evenly along the sides and nearer the axle in this yoyo, precession ends up being even more prone to occur. A flat bearing mitigates these problems somewhat by allowing the string to spread out a bit off the center of the plane of spin, and that results in less force applied in the correct places from the tension of the string. That's my theory anyway.
