You're right... there was no shuffle in the original version. I didn't even realise it was a shuffle the first time I heard Yoyoka's cover. Your comments made me run to the original to check, and true enough - no shuffle! At 10 years old, she had enough creativity in her to reinvent the drum pattern to even include The Purdie! Damn......

She was actually telling local Japanese band members, at age 4, that used to practice in her parents home studio, "It would sound better if you did it this way." They gave her a funny look, tried it, and then agreed!

@@chrisegbertky At 6:34 in this vid, Yoshinori Aoki said that Yoyoka was watching him and his band playing live at Yoyoka’s house and was acting like a stage director, telling the musicians that “I think this way is better” He says she was 2 yo. I think she was probably 4yo, as I heard a similar thing in another vid that said she was 4. The cool thing about this performance is that it showcases her own tastes and licks - it's not a straight cover but remains true to the original groove.

Great reaction to a wonderful performance. A measure of how good Yoyoka is, is that she makes me listen to (and enjoy) styles of music I would never normally go for. What gets me is that she always plays exactly what the song needs, even if sometimes it's more than the song got on the original recording!

Great reaction. When she goes nuts at 8:00 in your video (and 3:10 in hers)... I could listen to this on repeat most days. I also love when she sings along with the song, just showing how much fun she's having while absolutely crushing the cover. Yoyoka is what brought me to your channel and Band Maid is what made me become a patron... so you can guarantee my July request will be BM. :)

Thanks Wave picking this up which is one of my most favorite performances of Yoyoka’s. Even her performance on hard rock have made her popular, but her ability for funky groove sounds much more precious to me. Hope one day she gets into more jazzy groove.

Burn is something a 63 year old can wrap his head around: Deep Purple was a super rock group, Ian Pace is an unbelievably creative drummer as Yoyoka showed us. This, on the other hand, is chock full of technical aspects that only a drummer like Wave could spot and analyse that the experience is enhanced for the listener/viewer. Thanks for making what I thought was just another funky song intelligible to the uninitiated, Wave. 👍👏👍

Sure makes me appreciate Akifumi's restrained mixing - if Yoyoka thinks the snare would sound better with a little 'reverb', she'll make her own!! ..and what a great tribute to a truly influential 11 yo: "..who's changed this channel forever"! I hope Yoyoka hears and understands that..

im now convinced. yoyoka at 10 years old was the best drummer probably in history. no one is matching her ease and technical fluidity at which she plays. iv'e watch hundreds of drummers all styles and something about yoyoka is just different and better.

Totally. There are tons of kid drummers all over the internet. The are all novelty acts compared to yoyoka. Shes like the bobby fischer of drums. She is beyond next level and its still effortless for her!

I’m gobsmacked again! So very cool to hear an upbeat jazzy vibe...but then she’s already done dozens & dozens if not hundreds of different covers and I’m sure there’s a bunch. She’s so intriguing, because all she’s ever known is percussion, but beyond the word ‘know’ is, she is percussion, born that way and driven to learn and improve. By far Yokoko represents the best, smartest and biggest no-brainer in sponsorship history with her professional endorsement and sponsorship by PEARL DRUMS. Give that exec a raise...for being first!

Wave Potter, I have a request for you. A video I suppose? I've also notice Yoyoka is a master of the slide technique on bass paddle. Can you do a video about all the techniques and explain them, what differ and so on? That would very much appreciated of me. I'm not a drummer, but curious and wanna know about the pro and cons of each technique. Those "shuffle beats" aren't in the original. I assume she add them just because she miss them? I can tell I really like everything she's add to this song. It's better, honestly. This song, Virtual insanity and Put Me Thru' with Anderson .Paak are my favorites - they really show what she can do and that amazes me.

I've actually come to love both you and vand3rhorst through watching your yoyoka reactions. Thanks to the three of you all, I can't listen to ANY song now without hearing imperfections that I know yoyoka could ace. Even though I have heard most of the songs before she has covered them, once I've heard her version, no matter what I do to try and enhance the original drum track, I just can't go back... She basically ruins the old songs with how good she is LOL...

When you said she was just showing off now, I have some insight into that. I know you didn't mean anything negative by it. I used to date a professional ballroom dancer. People used to think she was showing off with certain moves, but what was actually on her mind was that dancing was so natural and easy for her, that if she didn't throw in something to jazz it up, she would get bored. So those movements come from being bored because it's so easy, like you said. And we all know how easy this is for Yoyoka!

For an excellent early example of Yoyoka's gentle talents on the cymbals check out her cover of Glider by Japanese duo Yamigari, I've searched out the original version('cos I like the song) and the cymbal introduction that Yoyoka plays so beautifully is not there, so I think it is Yoyoka's own addition which for a six year old is remarkable, it brought me almost to tears the first time I saw it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jK0yAiPqzSA.html

This is one of the very few covers from Yoyoka that I've not given a like to. That's because the video was done in two takes with the edit happening at 6:39 (watch the cymbal on the left side).

Yes it was 2 takes but it was excellently edited. I think her dad said that too. My guess was to insert that awesome section/fill (around the 3 minute mark) that she did effortlessly. Assuming that’s the second take. My thought was that Yoyoka wanted to do another take coz she figured she can do it better or add something to it. Or her dad can’t resist to do that coz that fill was gold. So I don’t fault her on that since she produced one of the best fill that she ever did and my favorite section. Plus I know she really enjoys playing Jamiroquia’s songs. I don’t think they intentionally try to ‘deceive’ us. I know it’s disappointing to see edited covers by others esp. after Yoyoka spoiled us with her one-takes. Btw, I love her funky and groovy covers. 👍🥁🤘🏼
