To all of us Ys fans it's hard to say anything bad about the series. They are amazing. Gameplay and story-wise both. It really is sad that the series in itself is a hidden gem.

Man, I’m playing through the vita version right now. My favorite YS game of all time. I cared about the characters a lot in this game. Exploring the island 🌴 was fantastic. All kinds of epic moments in this game.

Falcom has accomplished its 35 year old mission to create the perfect action-adventure with Ys VIII.

When you say the Story is the strongpoint I know I wouldn't care about the other flaws. I'm a story first kinda guy and I love me some Ys so I'll def be getting this on my Switch :)

It was because of this review, I bought the game. I love it, and I appreciate the experience I would have missed out on if it wasn't for this particular review. I am definitely a Y's fan now. Dana forever!

I picked this gamee up on a lark back when the Switch basically had no RPGs. I'm so glad I did. This game was just flat out amazing. Probably in my top 5 JRPGs of all time. Maybe just my top 5 RPGs, to be honest. I'm kind of worried about IX now because my standards were set so high with this one.

This game looks incredible and I haven’t seen a single bad review towards YS 8 and I can’t wait to play!

All YS games are pretty much hidden gems considering how few actually play it.

Absolutely love this game! Favorite game for me last year. Definitely recommend it to anyone who is a fans of the Tales or Suikoden series for sure.

This game is incredible! I've been a fan of the series since Ys Book I & II on Turbo CD! You're absolutely right! This game (and series) definitely needs a bigger audience! Also, Sunshine Coastline is such a jam! :-D

Perfect game for the switch you can start on your big TV and grind on the portable version. Finished it on he PS4 ad i loved it to death one of my favourite games of 2017, which was a crazy year.

I was so happy to finally pick up my copy this past Tuesday and I'm really enjoying my time with this game! I've known about this series since I was 12 but never had the chance, or the money, to pick up any of the Ys games until now. Playing this game at 26 has shown me that I've missed out on so much! Thanks Johnny for hyping up this series!

This is a great game and a fantastic starting for newcomers to the Ys series. Hopefully anyone who hasn't played it yet will give it a chance.

I had never even heard of this series until discovering your channel. Thank you Johnny for turning so many people, including me, onto the Ys series. Currently I am a few hours into Lacrimosa of Dana and absolutely falling in love with it.

I will say this is my first actual Ys game that I've ever played and I absolutely loved it. I originally played the game on the PS4 and the ONLY reason I went out of my way to buy it was because the trailer music's inclusion of the first 10 seconds of the piece "Everlasting Transeunt" was so gorgeous and so compelling that I was like, "You know what, let's take the risk and buy it." So, many many hours later after finishing the PS4 version I found myself completely satisfied with the purchase. The game was great! I loved how the NPCs were implemented in the game and thought the village defense moments were fun breathers from dungeon crawling. Funnily enough, through my first playthrough I remember thinking to myself, "Man, I wish this was on the Switch." Then it gets its Switch announcement later. I definitely want to buy this on the Switch, but I most likely won't for a bit until it gets a patch fixing all the localization issues. I had thought that the game was going to include the PS4's updated localization patch, but, from what I've seen, it doesn't look like that was the case, which is kind of a really dumb move. I'm watching your review of this first as you were the one that introduced me to this series. I'm now very much a fan and own almost all of the released titles.

I'm still wrapping up Ys VIII on the Vita and every time I turn it on I am blown away by the soundtrack. I always here frame rate complaints but the game is way better than worrying about that.

Loved, loved, loved this game. My first Ys experience. I spent over 100 hours with this game, spoke to everyone for every line of potential dialogue, did as many sub quests as possible, farmed items for best and most complete gear, fished, fetched DK mangos, left scraps out for a hungry cat, and found the unspoken truths on murals in the depths of an ancient civilization. Ended with 24 castaways and I believe 260 reputation and 105 virtue. I really enjoyed the individual stories, story at large, and the story as it was a chapter in Dana’s eyes. The art and music were fantastic. It was a lot of fun.

I just picked this up recently on the switch and I'm loving it and never played this game before so umm ya , definitely, 10/10 game imo, it's definitely worth getting it and right now it's on sale

So many good jrpgs coming to the switch, thanks 4 the review, was on the edge about getting it or not becuz we are also getting Shining Resonance Refrain, but now gonna get both, my wallet will be crying

I just started playing this game from PlayStation Plus on PlayStation 4. I really love it!!

My first Ys game was Ys III: Wanderers of Ys on SNES. After that I didn't play any Ys game until Ys 8 on my Vita a few years ago. By then I started to play all The PSP and Vita versions. Like the serie alot!!!

I'm debating hard on getting the Switch or PS4 version.

I wasn't sure if this game was for me. I really like Falcom's 'Trails' series of game but I am not such a big fan of action game. But now, you convinced me to try it! Your enthusiasm is contagious^^ Have you played the other games made by Falcom? I am sure that the trails series would be right up your alley!

Almost finishing Resonance of Fate on the Switch (and loving it). After this, I'll go for Y's, with all my heart.

I really need to work my way up to this game, it looks great. I'm still in the middle of Ys V on the Super Famicom.

My only problem preventing me from getting into this game/series is that I am into way too many time consuming jrpg series already.

Johnny has been preaching the Ys series for years. He also stated if you like Zelda you could like this so I decided to dive in with Ys 8 on the Switch. Is it good? For me, yes. Great review and hopefully more people pick this up on the Switch and make it worth the developers while to develop a new game and release the older titles for the Switch.

I've never played an Ys title and generally prefer turn based RPGs but I've now checked out this video review and your Ys origin one too and your cheer passion and love for the game series has made me want to pick up both copy's on my switch as they are currently on sale and looking forward to diving into hours and hours of this grindy rpg style you describe it as, so just want to say thanks for pushing this and I hope I return here with some fond memories of my own!

I’ll be honest, I have avoided JRPG’s my whole life. I think it stems from playing a Final Fantasy game when I was too young and I just didn’t get it. After watching you, Super Derek and GamezofWar, I’ve been getting my feet wet and discovered that I really love this genre! This is a bit daunting as now there are SO many that I want to play. Anyways, your stoke level for this series is so high that I went ahead and preordered the collector’s edition (I’m a sucker for art books) of Ys VIII. Thanks for the awesome videos!

Okay, you sold me on this game. Only previous experience with the series is Ys1+2 on Wii Virtual Console (Turbografx CD version), and I really enjoyed those, especially the kickass soundtrack. I'll check this one out.

I thought it was only for the vita until like a couple weeks ago. I walked into GameStop and saw it for ps4. I want this game after hearing you speak about the series Johnny.

Hi Johnny just finished this a few weeks ago on PSV.. Got several YS titles in the collection through still have quite a lot to play through.. I started with completing YS VII which was a great introduction! BTW love the character Dana and the apparent Atlantis type inspiration.. I hope there’s more to come along these lines from Falcom!!

Love the Ys series, I have this on PS4 and my girlfriend pre-ordered the Switch CE for my birthday this year, happy to hear it's a decent port. Bummed out by the 30 fps with drops though, the Switch really should be able to run this at 60. Oh well, not a deal breaker. Oh yeah, and the music in this game is fucking top notch! Probably my favorite music in the series honestly.

I'd never played an Ys game before but decided to give this one a try after your recommendation and watching the game play footage of Ys 8 on PS4. I'm really enjoying it so far. I love the anime art style. And even with the lower resolution and lower polygon count on the Switch, it actually works out quite well in my opinion with the anime art.

I absolutely loved this game. I loved the story & progression, the music was soulful. I have never played a Ys game prior to Ys VIII and I was sorely missing out on a wonderful story.

I'm engaged to try that game, Johnny. Your love for Ys drive me to play this and check for myself, honestly it seems really fun.

This game is like Kingdom Hearts, except it's like twice as fast. One of the most fun RPGs I've played.

Played this on ps4 last year. Bought the limited edition because of you. Nearly 100 percented, not sure if I wanna tackle this game on nightmare difficulty. Its pretty long game. But glad I was able to experience this game because of your channel.

Finished the game on the Vita and loved it. Bought the game again on Steam on launch week, despite users reporting the game has lots of issues, never even had one other than 1 weird graphical glitch, the game ran fine. Finished it again. Phenomenal game, imo best Ys in terms of story

I played on PS4 and simply LOVED IT. Even with that bad translation, it was amazing and definitely my favorite Ys game. I’ll get it on Switch just to have an excuse to play it again and share with everyone that they NEED to get this game too. ❤️

I picked up 9 for a great deal. It was my introduction to Ys. Being that 8 is reviewed better, whatever deal I had for 9 was just shattered ordering 8. Easy to find, just pricey now. Lol.

Wow, it's been over a year since you posted this? I only just started playing Ys 8 last week! The map system really is unbelievably confusing, due to how the multiple maps don't follow the same rules with regards to directions and spatial relations. I just spent an hour trying in vain to find some area, ANY area that I hadn't visited before - and I'm only on chapter 2! I guess they were trying to force players to draw their own maps. Time to get out the good old graphing paper. Definitely not sorry that I followed your recommendation and got this, though. The combat, music, and story are all terrific, and they all still have that same classic Ys feel (this is coming from someone who has only played I through IV of the series so far). It's fresh and exciting, making you want to dive into it without even peeking at a walkthrough.

Ys 8 made me go back and play every Ys game that was on Steam. Just gotta get through Celceta now.

Definitely getting this because I missed it on the Vita and I loved Ys MoC! Must finish it before July, 13th though.

I completed every side quest and found every character. You do their quests to build up your reputation. Once you’ve maxed out your reputation or at least have it up to 200. You then unlock the true ending.

This is a great compliment to Xenoblade Chronicles 2, both are similar but far from the same. I’m more at ease playing this, kind of like a Xeno “lite” if you will. Everything is so right and airy ,a really good rpg to start after you’ve finished Xenoblade 2.

I've been wanting this game since it's release and I just now come back to watch videos on it and I notice it's starting to look like one of those games that will be stuck in overpriced hell. Ebay has the PS4 and Switch versions at like $70-$80. Amazon doesn't have any more PS4 copies but they do still have Switch copies for its regular price of $60. After seeing all this and this video I had to make the decision to finally get it. I was not prepared to spend $60 right now but I figure It's now or never.

Beating Tokyo Xanadu ex+ got me to go back and play some Falcon games I had but got lost in the Big Ridiculous Backlog of Giant Backlogginess and I’ve enjoyed all of them. They definitely are masters of world building, as far as I can tell. I’ve got this preordered now and am excited to try it. Though I may decide to finish Trails of Cold Steel 2 first...

I finished PC version and it was wonderful. Emotional story, cute and and good characters, very enjoyable gameplay and gameplay mechanics and so on. So it absolutely worth the price.
