Absolutely agree with what you put in the first place. Kouros is something else indeed. I remember smelling it while being a teenager, probably around 2014-2015. At that time, and yes, regretfully i have to admit it, i was drawn towards a sweety/aquatic stuff that is so very common today and that was flooding the shelves at that time, so i didn't appreciate it and my reaction was like ''meh, who wears that''. Now, for some odd reason, and after reading so much about it on the internet (all those weird urinal cake/men's bathroom comparisons, etc.) i decided to revisit this beauty and got myself a little decant of the newest version. And man, i have to tell you, even in the newest iteration it is a masterpiece. At least i thought so until i got myself a metal shoulders bottle from 2010. Wow! What a gem! Hands down, one of the greatest masculines ever released. So different from everything else, deep and complicated, dirty and clean at the same time. P.S. Interesting thing, while i get where all those comments about urine/bathroom are coming from, i actually don't smell those at all in the previous version, only in the newest one. The previous one is much more herbal, floral and overall much more sophisticated. Funnily, i think i used to smell this scent in my childhood years, since it is very reminiscent of the shaving foam both my dad and grandpa used when i was a little kid. Now it is firmly in my top 3 fragrances, while a great Bel Ami is still sitting on its throne.
Absolutely loved this one Ramsey. Once upon a time YSL was a giant amongst fragrance houses and it is actually quite sad to see how far it has declined today. A fantastic list, most of which I have in my collection and some of the others I am hunting down. Wonderful stuff!
I'm glad you gave some love to YSL Pour Homme and Rive Gauche. Pour Homme was my signature scent for years in the 70's. I still wear it often today and have back up bottles. The same with Rive Gauche. Absolutely two of my favorites.
So informative and obviously passionate about these scents, that on the back of another video you did about Opium I was intrigued enough to get a 1997 bottle of the EdT, which I absolutely love and then of course my curiosity was raised about the original and Secret, so I've now got those coming to me. Thank you for sharing your love of perfumes.
What a legendary content Ramsey Very informative and educational videos Your chanel going to be a reference for frag history Love and engoy every second of long videos God bless you our dear Ram By the way 1:02:27 The best expression i ever watched 😂😂😂😂
Opium Pour Homme edp would be #1 for me, but damn you put a good ranking together. Yet to try Cinema, but kind of a fan of Sleek Suede and Splendid Wood too. Well done synthetics. Trench in place of Y edt. Y anything can go f...........ind a place in some other person's collection. I'll take the 2009 formulation of LNDL thank you very much. YSL need to make more flankers of Jazz is what they need to do. Now, where's me petition parchment? 🧐
Opium pour homme EDP would be number onen for you?! 😱 I need to find a bottle of that ASAP 😆 BTW this Y from 1964 is totally different than the crap blue frag they named Y and selling it to compete with Sauvage & Bleu ... trust me this Y from the 60s /70 is well worth getting your nose on 🤌🤌🤌
@@RamseytheRam Thank you! And yeah, if you can find a bottle of Opium PH edp, it's a proper rich flanker. Perhaps not a better or iconic scent than many from YSL, but very nostalgic for me. Memories and all that...
Hi Rasmey, I do agree with you Kouros is out of time and space. It is atemporal (does this word exist in Englsh?) and above all fashions. I have a long story with it but as you say "long story short": it was my first designer's perfume in the early 1980s (yes, I had the one with the original formula). It was a present of my mum. I was a teenager and wore it everytime I went out with my friends or for any celebration no matter if it was summer (40-45º C) or winter. So for me it's one of the most special and influential perfumes in my life. YSL is by far my favourite designer perfume house and they have real masterpieces. In your video there was something that surprised me. You show a EDT splash bottle of Opium for men and say it is not very potent, well I still have a spray 2003 bottle of the EDT and I can tell you it lasts the whole day and I have to be careful with the times I spray it on (never ever more than three) because the projection and sillage are spectacular. So I don't know but maybe your juice is not in the best condition. I love the way you do your videos. If I ever would become a youtuber you would be the mirror I would look at.
Thank you for the kind words... I am currently securing a vintage EDP of Opium Pour Homme so one day next year I will do a comparison video... thanks for sharing your story on Kouros... amazing stuff 🤌🤌🤌
When you said “no no no” re Tuxedo (agree, gag) I got Professor Forsberg of Futurama vibes. YSL WENT TO SHREDS (you say?) Re YSL-vintage Y, Opium (all versions, including pour homme) Jazz and Rive Gauche make my skin and nose happy, haven’t smelled anything else that’s made me do a happy dance. Thanks for review this homey, curious how you think this brand could become a phoenix?
Great video as always, nothing to add just recommend YSL Champagne, a very nice fruity chypre Edit: I think Opium was a perfect marriage between aroma and marketing. It was the perfect aroma and name for those times. It was and is a unique fragrance and something revolutionary and scummy.
...Can't belive you placed Moustache EdP so far at the bottom😉...Nonsense aside, so grateful for all the knowledge you pass on from your vids - I'm now on the watchout for the armor. The "which formula" blues had me detered from obtaining this bad boi until this video. #feckloreal
Thank you very much for coming down heavily on Tuxedo. I felt the same as well. A cheap designer fragrance. Also, sorry to hear that you struggled to get noble leather. I had it. Had we met in 2018, I had almost 90 percent of the perfumes you wanted.
Yeah YSL Pour homme, not a love but keeps calling me back. Just like it did when I wore it in early 80's, it's summer to me as well. Opium was such a hit, it was everywhere. I appreciate it more now and amazingly is great on my skin. Kouros, that was an instant hit. I had about 6mnths of being the only one wearing it. Travelled the Greek Islands when it came out and got asked so many times what scent I was wearing. 12 months later it was everywhere and oversprayed to hell, enough to make me stop wearing it, ditto Fahrenheit, Jules, Balenciaga PH. Thanks for doing this, great memories attached to many here.
Y for Women is a beauty. I didn’t know we it was discontinued. I have a couple sprays left in a old bottle. Kouros is such a comfort scent to me. I’ve had a bottle around for the last 35 years . Never thought I’d wear it outside till y’all started talking an out it so much. (I wore I once on a hike in a hot morning and so me one 1 feet away stopped me to say how wonderful I smelled…weird but true).
Great video. I haven't smelled Tuxedo, but I got a 1ml sampler of Rochas' new Moustache EDP, which allegedly smells similar, and it was the definition of "fine". Just some comforting pepper and vanilla warmth. Boring as hell.
I only have the Opium pour homme which I like. The women's version sounds interesting though. Jazz might be worth further investigation as Safari is one of the few fragrances that I have used a whole bottle of.🙂
My top YSL would be : 1. Rive Gauche pour Homme (this one BLEW me back in 2004 when I was a teenager , smelled on a test strip from a Macys catalogue and wish I owned one and still!!) 2. Live Jazz (my first signature scent in elementary school) 3. Kouros 4. Jazz 5. Kouros Fraîcheur 🦄 (proud owner of one and been wanting it for years !) 6. Rive Gauche EDT Light 🦄 (own it too!) 7. Opium / Opium Summer Edition 2002 8. Opium pour Homme ( stills waiting for a decent price for the EDP) 9. Kouros Cologne Sport (nice fresh flanker !) Need to smell those mysterious flankers like M7 Fresh , and those from Opium Homme and more!. Yves Saint Laurent was the first perfume house that I got obsessed with, totally destroyed nowadays 😢 No Ys allowed in this top 😎
@RamseytheRam No worries my friend 👍 Do you have YSL Cuir from 2016. That one is also amazing, you would love it. It's a 10/10 for me, along with Noble Leather. They're very different, but both masterpieces. I love Leather fragrances so much 🙂
I would say, after 2005 YSL went down creatively. L'Homme was the first of that generic "designer" smelling fragrances, which paved the way for what we have today. YSL Y edp is still the worst thing i smelled, ever.
I camel there because I just smelled ysl libre intense.. I was taken aback by how disgusting and boring it is, and I don't see it on your list. Have you tried it? Edit:ok i heard you mentioned the original in the video 😌
YSL perfume quality has tanked worse than Caron. So sad that such an innovative brand has come to this. Loreal apparently is the worst of the overlords.
Another great video! Would love to see your favorite perfumers not ranked along with your favorite creations from them! :) I know that must be difficult
