1) Left side chain tensioner always spun freely, and wiggled up and down. It only got semi-snug as it got deeper.
2) Rode bike a few months, always checking everything is dialed in before riding.
3) One day, I see the wheel shifted in the middle of my session. Instantly stopped riding, went home, cleaned bike, and assessed situation. The tensioner issue has finally shown how session ruining, and un-safe it is.
side note Noticed paint rubbed off chain stay from the faulty tensioner, and is now forming rust. Cool!
4) Uploaded multiple high quality videos and pictures to Dropbox for warranty claim.
5) Instantly denied by a guy named ‘Andreas’ at YT USA customer service.
6) I emailed Andreas again, 3 times different times. With the last email (seen in video) being a simple question:
“The tensioner literally wiggles up and down and is tightened with a human hand.
That’s normal manufacturing / performance spec for YT?
Answer that. Find a way to justify that ^
You should be offering some type of assistance. That’s not normal.”
Again - no response at all.
7) Went to local bike shop, spoke to the shop owner - without him even knowing I was recording my conversation/ inquiry: he confirmed I was right (clip included).
The bolt will obviously shift over time even if is tight - if there is no foundation for the bolt to rest on - aka the faulty tensioner, then it will slide. It’s pretty obvious.
This bike shop owner has been in business for at least 30 years.
He helped me with 2 lock nuts. And I’m thankful for his expertise, and confirming I was correct with my logic.
But I shouldn’t have to 1) go to a place, spending time, and 2) money to have someone - again - tell me it is truly faulty.
8) I have not ridden the bike since I got the lock nuts put on from the local bike shop owner.
I have no plans on riding this bike ever again. I won’t even sell the frame. I’ll gut it, and build a new frame up from a different company. I may even saw the frame in half as a response to the horrible service and experience I received.
9) I was going to spend at least $10,000 USD (looks to be more like $13,200 USD based on current prices) on 2 more YT bikes: the USA retro Jeffsy, and the Decoy SN e-bike. I don’t have a 27.5, full suspension (squishy), or e-bike in my lineup… yet.
YT - you should legitimately take this amount of money, or even a percentage of it, from Andreas’ future pay.
I was stoked on your brand. Now? I can’t bring myself to even look at the bike I own, or support any YT rider or product when I’m watching Crankworx, etc.
This really hurts, and I wish you all made it right. What does a $1300 bike’s frame cost on wholesale anyway? $70? Instead, you’ll receive the bad press from the facts of my experience.
Erik Fedko, would you be treated like this? Anthony Napolitan? Micayla Gatto?
The internet is forever. Enjoy the bad press, YT Industries. More like ‘infuriating’.
Help me, and I’ll remove the video.
Thanks.
