Dakota and the other day like you are not related to him so he can do it in a bit of a way that you can do that to the people who are you doing today danny asked me to do something for you and you
Most of the time when that happens it's because OCG has already abused whatever card it is, and Konami tries to prevent the TCG from doing the same and it goes right to the ban list as soon as it's out in the TCG. lol
i know how you feel like chaos emperor dragon for example , if you tell them that CED is banned because it was so broken new player be like sure mate.... and know nothing about its legend
Late response, but it wasn’t even worth the errata for cards like future fusion or exchange of the spirit. The new effects just make them completely irrelevant.
@@photonman0018 I mean..does it matter then? They get eratted so hard playing them is useless, might as well stay banned because now nobody will play it.
@@photonman0018 You say that, but there are several cards that will *never* get unbanned. Pot of Greed, Graceful Charity, Delinquent Duo, Painful Choice. They're just too strong in terms of advantage.
Fun fact - Kaiba only ever interacted with cyber jar when he dueled the computer just before battle city but never used it himself. Also, cyber jar is present on Yugi’s desk in his blimp room during one episode during the battle city quater finals.
I hope Firewall isn't at the 1st place, it would be too obvious :D EDIT: "You know Konami isn't a fan of anything free in Yu-Gi-Oh!" *laughs in Engage*
@@YugiohEverything Yeah, I can agree with that! Honestly, when I saw Firewall at the second place i really thought that Chaos Emperor Dragon is first (lul) :D Though Ancient Fairy Dragon is probably a better choice ;)
This was very well done :) Interesting fact, performpals were so broken (with monkey board) that it needed an emergency banlist two weeks after breakers of shadows became legal to play (the set they were in) They were so strong that I saw people spend up to $1000 on buying case boxes to get the deck togeather for YCS Sydney as the set became legal the day before the event
Thanks so much James! And wow that is freaking insane.. I didn't realize how broke PePe was, I mean I knew it was ridiculously good, but I didn't know it was to the point people were spending 1K XD
Konami won't add cards that will make ancient fairy dragon broken Konami department do know what they are doing However when it concern money everything is possible
When I was a kid I used to play Yu-gi-oh relgiously. I went to a tournament and was Yata locked on the first match within a few turns. What made it worse is my opponent was a bit of a jack ass kid who used to bully me. Gives me not only a bit of hate for the card but for the game. One reason why I no longer play other than its expense and the fact that all decks are themed and if you don't have all the cards in that theme then your deck is useless.
I wouldn’t say that’s true as there is rogue decks that do exist that have random cards in the deck to do stuff yeah it might not be the most effective but you can still win if sometimes a play go the right way however I do see what your saying that a lot of cards do follow a theme that makes deck building a bit of a hindrance to where almost every single deck now is either the same or follows a similar theme and it gets a bit boring
Yeah that was a surprise a few months back to me. I was unaware of all the loops you can do with her effect so when I saw she was banned I did a triple take xD
@@YugiohEverything I just hope they will unbanned her soon, or at least limited to 1 card. It may have an strong effect, but it does have a few back draws like her low attack points and the effect that let you special summon an monster and exchange you have to skip the battle phase.
@@pimsutter but If He Supports ftks the Drawback is Kind of irrelevant isnt IT? I mean If ur oppenent is dead its irrelevant If u can Attack or how big the Attack of your Monster is u have won
there was a deck that abused and recycled the effects of morphing jar (and other jars) making your opponent draw enough cards for them to deck out in turn 1, was like a FTK but the cause was deckout
I remember Morphing Jar it was so creepy to me as a kid but I loved the design of it, I would. Occasionally search for it in my collection of cards just to get spooked and put it away for the next time
Thank you. You did just fine explaining everything. I’m surprised that Ancient Fairy Dragon got banned without me knowing until now. As for Sagan and Witch of the Black Forest, I only had only one of each (or one or the other) in only a few of my older decks. Plus I only used them the way they are written in their new text. Even back when they only had one version of their card texts.
Also Konami really doesn’t like quote free cards that give you a huge card advantage. Theoretically it f you set your entire hand and your opponent didn’t, and they didn’t have heavy storm or dark hole or anything similar, when flipped you would have a huge card advantage while they would only get a card destruction type effect with a new hand, which may help or hurt them, but helped you a lot more obviously.
Astrograph was banned because of Metalfoes Link monster, basically if you summon this Link monster and you use its effect to add Astrograph from the deck to the extra deck, then use the 2nd effect to destroy a card in your pendulum zone to add Astrograph to your hand, the Link monster allows you to draw 1 card, and Astrograph special summons itself and add a monster with the same name as the destroyed monster, so basically you had 2 cards but now you have 4 cards. Meanwhile Starving Venom Zarc monster got banned for 2 reasons, the first one because of Metalfoes Link, if you summon SVZ after youve done that combo, you can copy the Link monster effect, the second reason because of Lyrical Luscinia Fusion Monster, if it copies her effect, Starving venom deals 4000 damage, if you summon another one, you deal another 4000 damage. For Ancient Fairy Dragon, it was banned because you could summom it easily with Destrudo, a level 7 dragon tuner, if activate Dragon Ravine field spell, and you discard destrudo to send from your deck Zarc Servant, you basically have a free special summon for a level 4, and add a level 7 pendulum (the gates) to you hand, activate destrudo effect and special summon it as a level 3, synchro summon Anciemt Fairy, destroy the field, gain 1000 life points, add ABC field spell, and you still have a normal summon to start all your combos.
@@Marcusjnmc And yet we have a monster like True King of All Calamities which was originally named "True King V.F.D., The Beast." Guess what THAT'S named after...?
@@ryancondon2246 Firewall's ban is MORE than understandable, with example after example to prove its banworthiness. Gumblar? Not really banworthy at all. Definitely not to the degree Firewall is. I mean, yes Gumblar can knock cards out of your hand early on, but it also hits your opponent's hand unless they have it in an Extra Link. Also its effect is a hard OPT (and only 1 of Gumblar's effects can trigger per turn) unlike Firewall's so they can't exactly spam it.
@@cameraredeye3115 it's ridiculously easy to trigger gumblar twice though, & the decks which used to extra link with firewall can easily pull enough hand advantage to make the loss negligible, maybe sans aqua dolphin it wouldn't be so big an issue but the deck as it stands certainly shouldn't be in the game
Morphing jar had a few reasons why it got banned. Main reason was at the time dark world came out, morphing jar and card destruction were a big part in dark worlds. But I do remember a lock where if you had “protector of the sanctuary “ on the field when you flipped morphing jar, both players would discard, but only you would draw 5 while your opponent didn’t draw anything. Also considering the fact that you can set your whole hand and jar, then have jar flip would mean that you gain +5.
Coming back to the game after almost 4 years I’m shocked to learn that level eater and ancient fairy dragon are banned. Level eater deserves an errata, and I just wish that ancient fairy or ftk in general wouldn’t be used by players
I remember when I first pulled Dark Magician of Chaos, I thought "What the hell? Is this fake?" As the only time I saw it was as the ritual monster Magician of Black Chaos in the anime
16:00 The reason it remained banned for so long was because at the same time metamorphosis got banned the card instant fusion was introduced. That allowed you to special summon 1 level 5 or lower fusion monster. You could uses it as a counter to pretty much everything.
I do miss Astrograph and SK Starving Venom as a Pendulum Magician player. I understand that Astrograph will probably have to stay banned (at least for a little while). Starving Venom on the other hand I feel like could have just been limited, but maybe I'm just not well informed enough to judge that.
I think you only did 2 little mistakes, in the Yatagarasu combo you said that you special summoned Chaos Emperor Dragon with Sangan or Witch of the Black Forest but what you did was send either of those to the GY with Emperor to search Yata and in Dark Magician of Chaos the combo is not an attacking one, you don't attack with neither monster, you just tribute DMoC with Cannon Soldier infinitely. Regarding Morphing Jar, it was banned for so long because there way too many cards with good graveyard effects in the game, so just flipping a flipping Jar to send a bunch of monsters to the grave for free can be really broken, also if you have 1 card in hand and flip it you go +4 right there, the video was really good and I liked it a lot :)
Thank you for all of that! I always love reading comments cause I learn so much about the game, I'm glad you liked the video! And thanks again for your insight! :)
The monster Goyo Guardian destroys is revived in defense so it can not attack. It was banned because of its easy summon condition and high attack that beat out many boss monsters at the time.
Kinda off-topic, but I wanted to mention one of my craziest theories on VRAINS and how season 2 could end. I thought about your theory that Kaiba would be the final antagonist of ARC-V, and it actually would make more sense for Kaiba to be the last villain of VRAINS, i.e. the Sol King Chess Piece. I've always thought VRAINS was on the DSoD timeline where Kaiba created the precursor to VRAINS in the movie, and he could have digitized his consciousness or something to live well into the future. Note that I don't think we have ever even heard the King Chess Piece speak and chess was the other game aside from Duel Monsters that had a large impact on Kaiba's life. I could imagine season 2 could end with Queen talking to King about how everything has fallen into place and it pans back to reveal Kaiba is King. Don't think this is particularly likely but wanted to throw it out there. Btw you should do a video of craziest theories for VRAINS. I had another one personally that Den City, i.e. the real world of VRAINS is also VR and that is why Yusaku could see into VRAINS in the real world in Episode 2, so he's like Neo in the Matrix.
Interesting enough, I had the exact same tought while taking a shower, of proposing Dylan another "KAIBA THEORYYY" for Vrains. Also, that Matrix theory sounds so freaking cool. When are we getting a Digimon (as a franchiese, or core) and Yugioh VRAINS crossover?! or even fanart at least...
Two things 1: VRAINS takes place 10 years out from the present day, so Kaiba would only be in his 40's during the time of VRAINS and uploading his conscious to VR wouldn't be necessary since he's got a long way to go before he has to worry about dying. 2: Kaiba didn't go back to the past. He went to the Egyptian Afterlife, hence why Atem's reaction to seeing him was a confident smile and not "the fuck are you wearing Priest Seto?"
Furiza-Sama It doesn't take place 10 years after DSOD. It takes place 10 years from today, in late 2020's. So it takes place 30 years after when DSOD would take place (in the late 90's)
Very nice video!! As far as I know Witch of the Black Forest is currently used in Burning Abyss decks in order to search Orbital Hydrolander. Although you cannot use the effects of the card you searched with Witch at the same turn you can summon it. And Hydrolander has a quick effect, so you can use its effect during the opponent's turn.
It's crazy to see how underused some monsters were in the anime. Even firewall's second effect took way too long to be first used imo. Konami's card balance team is way too lazy sometimes.
12:10 Even without that loop it was still insanely powerful because of the spell card recovery. You basically get a free spell card every time you manage to summon it.
@@CyberXrossEntity It was overpowered. Plain and simple. It has it's own FTK with the Gearfried, Royal Magical Library and Butterfly Dagger - Elma endless draw engine, it's a reset button that doesn't "Destroy" and it can facilitate a lockdown your opponent pretty much has no hope of escaping and topdecking into it in longer games can win you the game. It was one of the reasons Solemn Judgment started seeing common play. It was just far too powerful to leave unchecked. Anime or not.
Dude morphing jar is ridiculous with it's draw power since most decks empty out their hand very fast so morphing jar refreshes it completely and can be used as a deckout tool
If the monster summoned by Goyo was switched to attack position by a card effect (ex. A/D Changer, Karakuri Strategist, etc.), the monster could make an attack the same turn it was summoned. Only know that cuz it happened to me lol.
Well, Magician of Faith is no longer on the ban list. I’m upset Level Eater had to be banned though. It made Synchro Summoning so much easier. I do wish Firewall didn’t have to get banned. I’m taking that card and Scapegoat out of my Trickstar deck.
I am sure a lot of those banned cards will have been fine if they added an errata to it. But because Konami is too lazy to either say they screwed up on design or immideately errata the card, FTK and OTK were allowed to run amock for months.
Injection Fairy Lily was banned for some interesting reasons: 1. Monster Removal was easy. Raigeki and Dark Hole were so commonly played, that getting an empty board was easy 2. She can be searched by Sangan and Witch of the Black Forest 3. There are 3 big cards to Special Summon from the Graveyard - Monster Reborn, Call of the Haunted and Premature Burial. 4. She is imune to Trap Hole 5. She was a normal summonable 3400 Atk Beatstick, that could easily go for game. A lot of Duels ended with her being normal summoned, a 2nd copy being revived, then Raigeki. You would pay 4000 to deal 6800 - a fair price. With a much slower game going one, this was really strong and hard to punish. If you couldn´t destroy her with Raigeki, you basically lost, because they could do their effect on either players turn. Old YGO was funny.
Morphing jar was really over the top. It helped many decks that required cards to be sent to the grave. The real question is why did it come back 😂😂😂😂😂
Nobody’s commented in a while, but it is funny to scroll through the older comments. There seem to be a lot of people who don’t realise Magician of Black Chaos and Dark Magician of Chaos are two different monsters. The former is a non effect ritual monster used by Yugi in DM, while the latter retrain was only used by Dimitri in GX.
How is firewall unexpected? It is absurdly strong and like 4 or 5 cards had to be banned/limited because firewall turned them into FTKs and more would have been hit as well if they didn't ban firewall. Most of the competitive community were amazed it went so long without being banned.
I don't think it will come back without either an errata or a new master rule being implemented. Also I don't think it qualifies as his ace, as Dylan said it only featured in 4 duels so it shouldn't get banlist immunity because of that.
Morphing jar was really OP because imagining going first and activating its flip effect. If I use its effect after using all the cards in my hand, I get an extra 5 cards. My opponent doesn’t gain any cards when you think about it.
We have set rotation and the fact that you activate Union hanger than search but than ancient fairy effect destroy field spells search for the same one if you want. You would use union hanger again for a search which is fucked up.
Quick clarification on the envoy of the end gurasu lock. You need sangan/black witch on field, a light and dark in grave, and envoy in your hand with normal summon. You special envoy of the end, use his effect to blow up field (including sangan/witch) then normal summon gurasu which you searched off sangan/witch, attack directly and they are looped to death.
it was banned for more than just the ftks. when links came out there was a loop it did with union and blue eyes making 2 union fusions and a crystal wing consistently. on a good draw it would just get worse from there.
The initial reason Makyura the Destructor was added to the ban list was the OTK combo it created with Call of the Haunted + Dark Scorpion - Chick the Yellow. If you had CtY in your graveyard and activated Makyura's effect, you could play call of the haunted to summon CtY and attack your opponent directly. This would trip CtY's effect and allow you to return call of the haunted to your hand which would send CtY back to the graveyard. You could rinse and repeat until your opponent reached 0.
Zarc: I summon Astrograph sorcerer! *It turns to dust* Zarc: No! This, this can't be possible! *He starts turning to dust* Zarc: NOOO! I can't die! * Starts walk towards aster and sora* Zarc: I will come back, I ALWAYS DO!!! *Falls to ground half dust now* *Looks up* Yuya: Sora, is that you? Just do me one thing for me plz Yuya: if you find Yuzu tell her that I... I... *Turns complete to dust* Aster: well that easy, I call dibs on his deck.
i'm currently playing duel links. they just released a new box with ancient fairy dragon as the mascot for the box as an ultra rare card. if you don't have the gems to grind the packs you can just use Luna's mark of the dragon ability, that adds ancient fairy dragon to your extra deck at the start of the duel as well as 2 spore tuner monsters.
Back in the day Morphing Jar was banned for multiple OTK Exodia decks containing Sanga, Witch of the Black Forest, and Morphing Jar itself, Morphing Jar #2, Card Distruction, Pot of Greed, Graceful charity and Reckless Greed for there fields and hands are sent to the grave in order to get more draw and search power for all 5 pieces of Exodia the Forbidden One into the hand within 1 to 3 turns they get it and giving the opponent a 15% win chance as they would likely hope the exodia player had to use a piece of the forbidden one to set it rather then keeping it in hand for the win.
Excellent video, ban cards are always interesting to learn about. Morphing jar not sure exactly why it was banned but I mean the card could be used in deck out strategy and it refills your hand. Poor ancient fairy dragon
8:20 Because it's power was huge. If you got a good set-up you could make a massive play to summon several synchro monsters. Then flip up morphing jar and draw 5 more cards. Also if you drew it during your opening hand you could set most of your cards and if your opponent attacked it then you could get a very large card advantage.
Morphing Jar (and Cyber Jar) allows the “Empty Jar” strategy of decking out your opponent by constantly flipping it up and down with other cards. Unlike a card like Needle Worm (that just mills 5 cards from the top of the opponent’s deck), the Jars let you replenish your resources by drawing/excavating Cards over and over again, allowing you to access more of the cards that let you flip it up and down. This strategy being viable at all is justification enough for Morphing Jar needing to be re-banned. The likely reason it even got unbanned was to promote the Danger archetype (which revolves around discarding cards).
Yeah, Lily was used in some pretty sick rushdown OTK decks in the past before she was sent the "not playable in sactioned" asylum with a Boot to Da Head. Her base ATK stat is only 1500, but when attacked or attacking (even if the card is used for a direct attack), the controlling player can pay a cost of 2000LP to raise its ATK by a whopping THREE THOUSAND. Plus given this let it get over numerous boss cards that didn't have the clause of "this card cannot be destroyed as a result of battle", who cares if you pay 25% of your starting LP so long as you had 2k1 or more.
Another awesome video Dylan! Also, I'd definitely be interested in a video regarding banned anime spells and traps. In addition, I could email or message you about what happened to some of these cards if you're interested!
Disk Commander's errata is saddening, it will likely never be used with the having to wait a turn restriction, unless perhaps in Duel Links. they went a bit ott with that one, Sinister Serpent similarly, it'd be fine if you just had to wait a turn to use it's ef, rather than basically making it have no ef.
Morphing Jar was banned for the potential of being able to shrink your oponents hand, potentially getting rid of any combo he might have had planned, and increasing your own hand. You'd simply play morphing jar whenever your hand was easentially useless and counted less than 5 and your opponent had more than 5 cards.
slight mistake when explaining the yata lock. envoy of the end is special summoned by banishing the light and dark and uses it effect to nuke the field and hand including witch/sangan. witch/sangan then fetches yata which is then normal summoned to complete the lock.
Besides mill decks a big reason morphing jar got hit was bc it could potentially give you a huge card advantage. Let’s say you play your entire hand and set morphing jar. And you pray they didn’t have black hole or heavy storm. Now let’s say you’re opponent doesn’t have the cards necessary to punish you for overextending, so they play it say and only set a few and or attack it recklessly. Well now you get a +5 draw and they get a plus 0, basically a card destruction for them and 2 pots and 1 jar of greed for you. The new hand may help them out or it may hurt them if their best cards got discarded. But it probably helped you a lot more as you have both an entire field in play and a whole new hand in your wings for backup. Considering how strongly Konami hates pot of greed and other free +2’s it really shouldn’t surprise anyone that a potential +3, +4, or even a +5 got banned for being such a simple flip effect.
I'm sure someone else already mentioned it but Starving Venom was banned because of the Lyriclusc (sp?) Fusion monster. It burns for 500 LP for every level. So you Instant Fusion it out link it off for Link Kuriboh or something then get 4 Dark Pendulum monsters on the field (which is fairly easy), Summon out 2 Starving Venom then use each to copy the effect of Assembled Nightingale, they'll each do 4K of damage. There's also anther card banned because of that card. Super Conductor Tyranno or something (not the new Dino boss monster but an older card can't remember the name, but it basically had the same copy an effect from the GY thing). The OCG did it the right way and just banned Assembled Nightingale.
I also forgot to say, Morphing Jar was banned for the same mill, using it and Hand Destruction was annoying, also you can draw and reset Morphing Jar with Book of Moon and the other one that flips him back up
Not really. That mill strategy wasn't all that powerful. What did make it powerful was the amount of card advantage it can grant you. Especially if you can use it multiple times. If you used giant trunade and sent their backrow back to their hand and then set your own it can grant you a lot of advantage. Also with cards like the fabled and especially dark world the cards you discard are actually not a cost at all since they activate. So it's essentially a free +4.
9:55 Well it's not just that. It's also that he just had to be sent to the graveyard. Most other floaters had to be destroyed. However since Sangan just had to be sent to the graveyard you could use it with synchro summon and keep up your card advantage.
