This is the very first erhu video I ever heard and saw, and this video made the erhu became my favorite Asian instrument. Also it's super rare to see such control over the instrument and over the self, so expressive, especially the huge amount of big interval bends, it's not something we hear a lot in western classical music. This recording is a true gem! Thank you so much for uploading!
This recording is far from satisfactory: the pianist showed no feeling in his play, and he overpowerederhu at the end, a problem compounded by lousy audio engineering. Yu is a good erhu player; her effort was wasted nonetheless. For those who are particularly sensitive to sadness, try the concerto Liang & Zhu by He and Chen (the so-called butterfly lovers’ concerto for violin and orchestra transcribed for erhu and Chinese orchestra) played by Sun Huang; you would need a mug to collect your own tears.
