I kept my cards in single sleeves for years, and the sleeves got worse and worse to the point they were not really doing their job... keeping cards mint is hard and expensive...
How do you store you cards ? Never store your cards, sleeved or naked, in cardboard boxes because cardboard releases tiny rough particles. Always store them in Plastic or Metal tins. I forgot to sleeve up my Yugi's Legendary Decks cards and the holos moved around too much inside and got scraped 😢
I kept my cards in regular ole Komoney Sleeves for like 5 years and micro bits of dust and crap from life gather at the top of them. Staining many of cards with dents, scrapes, water stains? I don't even know honestly, and it doesn't make sense to me as I kept the cards in a shoe box that was in good condition and then just forgotten about unmoved for those 5 years. But anyway, my point now is that since getting back in to Yu-Gi-Oh, I did a research and found Dragon Sleeves to be the Hype for Sleeves and bought in to them. I now double sleeve and store all the cards i'm collecting in a Binder with Zipper, and double sleeve my main deck. Protecting your cards can be expensive, but you can helps yourself by first doing Research in the various products that exist, and sticking to one product line. Because then you buy in to one product line, don't line it and buy something else and that's costly.
@@cMARVEL360 I still use the very first set of Dragon Shields I ever bought in 2016, only use em for jank draft and stuff now but the fact they've survived that long is beyond impressive. My first pair of Ultra pro sleeves got fucked within the first few months of owning them,.
@@cMARVEL360 Water Stains could be dried up sweat. Do you have clammy hands, if so i recommend using gloves while handling your cards. I always use gloves when opening new cards or organizing them. Another tip, don't play with your cards on dirty, dusty surfaces like floor carpets or bed mattress.
@@Angelite1209 Haha! Na not sweat. I always kept my cards in Sleeves. But I was referring to how the sleeves get all wavy on top where the cards slide in. And some of the stains look like liquid splashs. But none of that makes sense to me because remember my cards were stored in a shoe box . Now I double sleeve and don't worry about anything. I don't get clammy hands, I own a Playmat now. But I will consider gloves for opening packs though! That way they are the most Minty Fresh! I'm not a kid btw I'm 34 🤣 So I don't get the urge to make mock duels and shuffle my deck to test the 5 cards I draw. When I was a kid I would do that on all the places you mentioned Lol! But anyways Thanks for the Tips!
I never really keep sealed products anymore, but when I did, I had this big treasure chest thing in my closet that I stored a lot of booster boxes in. It was pretty secure and I’d forget about it so I was never tempted to open stuff 😅
Hey Ruxin, great vid as usual. I'm a collector of sealed yugioh product as well as singles. I keep them in enclosed, cool, dry, dark places so things like light and water don't have much of a chance of reaching them. I keep them elevated and not touching the floor due to the temperature of the flooring as it could get really warm or cold. Just some of the steps I take!!! Other options, especially for high valued product could be temperature controlled/hermetically sealed storage.
Hey @@studytransformation2520 so I got back into yugioh not so long ago in 2022 after a LONG break and started building my collection ever since. I have tins from btw 2012-2023, all of the 25th anniversary related sealed product, I also have a binder full of sealed booster packs dating to btw 2004-2023 and still searching......what about u?
Sealed "Porduct"? Oh boy Ruxin... if you change the title it's too late, I've already seen the glaring spelling mistake haha absolutely hilarious though. Especially funny for a things gone wrong video.
ohhh no that sucks :(. I don't worry about sealed product though because I can't keep myself from opening everything. But yeah, water damage is the worst for card collectors.
I collect sealed Pokemon ETBs and vintage packs. The ETBs I keep in the Target food containers since its a nice fit, stackable, fairly air-tight, and offer great impact/scratch protection. For my packs, I put them between two semi-rigid card savers and then seal them inside a graded card sleeve. Then I stack them in a regular cardboard box meant for cards. Both of these collections are kept away from any windows to avoid sun bleaching, and off the floor to avoid water in case of a flood.
When yu-gi-oh started coming out with cards, naturally, as a collector, and wanting to be part of the game I purchased hundreds of dollars worth of packs. Never did I think of keeping them sealed (didn't see the bigger picture). Until you Ruxin, now I have a box or 2 sealed; placed in a storage container, in the closet, away from people, and myself.
Favorite pull today was Armed Dragon LV10! When I used to buy sealed I stored in storage tubs. When my house got flooded all 3 levels the stuff in totes was safe! As always, thanks for the content!
I inadvertently have a sealed collection right now, mostly because I'm behind on opening packs lol. I've never dealt with water damage before, so my best advice would just be keep it up higher, and away from potential leaks
When it comes to product, I try best to keep it sealed usually through any sort of acrylic container. For Pokemon ETBs, they actually sell some at Target that these fit perfectly in! Otherwise for booster boxes, I'll make sure to buy cases online and then store them in a bin. And singles I'll usually keep double sleeved in a binder, or if they're really valuable, I'll put them in a toploader and put those in a briefcase for future grading.
@@davidrendon1411 Any of them will really do. Other cards are larger so ones for MTG and PKMN work just fine. Just going to have to be more careful if you're randomly moving everything around since it'll move around inside the container unlike the ones they're designed for.
It was probably packaged in factory with some sort of humidity and then sealed, over time, depending on how you stored it, the moisture slowly seeped out.
I usually don’t collect sealed product unless it would come to like a SDY 1st sealed - I’d never rip it. The joy of collecting really comes from looking at the cards for me
I put my sealed products into air-tight plastic boxes. But humidity which remains trapped every time you open/close the box is still a problem. Small packs of silicone could be good but I did non tried them yet
I personally do not keep tcg sealed product but it is always fun to learn about the ways in which people protect their stuff from humidity and dust (the main enemies of collectables)
This is so true of the yugioh set that don't stand value over time. This hurt sometimes because you lost value. I keep some "top" code sets like TOCH, POTE, DABL etc ...
I keep my cards double sleeved and in a binder in my room that is always kept at around 69-70 degrees, and humidity I try to maintain around 45-50%. The way I do that is I keep a humidifier AND a dehumidifier synced up to control humidity.
recently started collecting sealed products and I usually try to protect them from light and water, so I usually store them in a dark place (basement, closet) with a cover like a plastic bag or in a hard plastic/glas box, obviously a bit sad that I can't show em off but for that I mostly buy an extra one where I open the packs and can use the box as decoration if I want.
I keep sealed products a lot! I usually throw them back into the shipping boxes that they come with with some protective bubbles and let them in the place witb the other products
This is becoming more prevalent with TCG products. MAMA had some weird cuts and misalignments, this happened to Ruxin, and I bought 3 RDA SDs and about 10 of the cards were damaged right out the packaging. Most of the cards have many small imperfections and dents on them. Konami QC has plummeted.
I kinda invest in multiple things sealed. Pokemon stuff mainly but also have some One Piece, Dragon ball Z and some Metazoo. I usually use a Dice collector box and then put that into a acrylic box. Room they are stored in is both humidity and temperature controlled.
I generally don’t keep sealed product, but the few sealed booster boxes, blisters and structure decks I I have are kept in a safe, or a cardboard packing box high in my closet with good air flow!!
I’ve got some sealed booster boxes and packs that I’m saving for my kinda! All sealed in a cardboard box with plastic, bubble wrap, and tape. Keep it high up and in low humidity/normal temperatures
You can't just leave it randomly around your house like that lol. If you have that much, it's probably worth investing in an offsite facility or even shed so long as it's insulated. I had pokemon sitting in a drawer at my parents house for 20 years and it was pristine because it hadn't been touched for virtually the whole time. These days I keep it in a spot where it's out of the road and similarly doesn't get touched. The acrylic boxes people buy are 100% not needed.
I bought a bunch of GFTP mini boxes online a few weeks ago for $15 each, seemed like a really good price and they ended up giving me display boxes for every 5 I bought. So I bought more and they gave me a sealed case.🔥
I haven't kept sealed product in years and when I did I had a safe I kept all my sealed product in. Kept the room at 70°F all year around. I used to buy cases just like you when I still played. I quit back when the tournaments were still SJC's instead of YCS's so millenia ago😂
I have a few Decks still sealed but nothing more. My favorite Cards got sleeved and packed in a toploader. Buuut now I repacked them in magnetic card cases. They are incredible safe and looking really cool.
I keep a lot of sealed, pokemon mostly and I keep it just for displaying it. The silica gel packets are good for preventing moisture - I use those, they were a good investment for me. I also use a cabinet to store them that I can see into.
I'm trying to add more to my sealed collection and I just invested in metal display cabinets to keep it safe as well as being able to show it off nicely.
Sad to see the box got water damaged but excited to see GFTP opened! I keep all my cards under $1-2 in yugioh tins and my sealed product in a cardboard box next to the tins. Anything super expensive gets sleeved and put in a top loader and then anything else with decent value goes in my binder. The bind definitely warps the cards but not terribly. It could be the weather changing constantly cause I live in wisconsin where you turn the heat on in the morning and have the AC on by noon.
I collect mtg boxes, have 1 from past 27 sets, i bought BCW acrylic cases. they also make bundle/fat pack sizes. have been collecting those as well as collector boxes and make sure they're always in a case of same kind. not sure if yugioh boxes as this would fit, but their definitely something to look into imo.
Unfortunately because Yu-Gi-Oh does do reprints so often, and most of it being done due to cards being over priced as singles, Yu-Gi-Oh will never be a huge investment as would nostalgia sets. When we were kids buying the cards was difficult but as adults we are all buying and all selling that the market is over saturated.
I don't collect seal product except for the first starter decks, are my wall beside toys and more, also, don't have some protection, across the year only the dust is the "problem" but they are not damage, i only clean them. Om te other hand, acrilic boxes could be the Best to protect. Good vibes and pulls!
i get your point but realistically there was absolutely no way that bit of moisture would have penetrated any further you can clearly see the bleaching from the box that indicated the residual moisture had dried up
I do keep some sealed product, i just keep it away from common areas. Sometimes things just happen. Luckily the mini-boxes are shrink wrapped so the damage was just on the outside of the display.
I’ve worked in the art business for twenty years and have a lot of experience in paper damage, particularly water marks and infections which can be extremely damaging and difficult (although not impossible) to cure. In my opinion (and this is just a guess) I would say that the water problem happened somewhere along the supply chain, before or maybe even during the process of it being sealed. The boxes could have been wet, or the packaging station could have had someone spill a drink on that particular box which may have affected several more. It would have passed any product standard checks at the factory, but the damage would have been there unseen. Either way, it looks like the outer packaging was damp and then sealed with the cellophane wrapper. Then when it’s got into your house where it’s most likely warm, the water has begun to taint the cardboard. You did the right thing opening it. The discolouration of the packaging could never be treated with the cellophane still intact so one way or the other, you had to unwrap it. Sorry this happened to you, but I think it’s just bad luck on your part with that box rather than anything you’ve done or a problem in your house. If you’re still worried about your other boxes, then maybe buy some silicone sachets and spread them around your boxes. Other than that you could buy a dehumidifier and control the humidity in the room you keep them in. Love the videos by the way. All the best.
I once had a water damage with a single card shipment as well (mailman didn't put it right in the mailbox). Luckily they double sleeved it and put it into a toploader, so the card had no damage at all.
Ruxin, probably there were some holes on the wrapper and humidity accumulated inside. ! i recommend everyone to use Dessicant Drying Packets. ! Keep your cards dry and safe from humidity.
Curiosity dictates my sealed collection, and because of that, I have none. 😂 Not sure where the YGO market is really headed now anyway, so until I see a bigger uptick of interest, I think letting chaos reign and opening packs is the only answer for sealed product, in my opinion.
I enjoy collecting singles and opening product every once in a while. What I have I protect well, but I just don't look at sealed product as a "cool" way of investing. It would just sit there with me and I'd want to open it, without even knowing if it'll ultimately be worth waiting to sell one day, considering inflation. Lol
was never concerned with quality as a child, and neither did I ever think of keeping a pack sealed. I always did it for fun and still do it today. However if I could tell my younger self to put those sealed packs in the closet and not touch them for decades I would.
No offense, but how should the cards be damaged from water. The mini boxes are sealed with plastic wrap, the cards are in boosters (also plastic sealing). How should it get in there?
Mine are currently in sleeves, over time I'm planning to get new sleeves. As for my non deck cards i currently have hollows sleeved, and the rest are in a binder
I mainly collect singles, but I do have a couple sealed boxes of various TCGs. One of my worst memories from the pandemic was one of my friends tripping and destroying my sealed Toon Chaos box. 😢
I like pokemon because an opened product can APPRECIATE in value, but with Yu-Gi-Oh it feels like nothing besides staples have any value and even those get hit with multiple reprints, then there are different values for simply coming from different sets.
Closest thing I have to sealed is sealed promos I keep in a tin on my tv stand. Do want to get into sealed boosters but your video nailed it. Not much really to collect and keep sealed :/
The only sealed products I have are the 25th Anniversary Booster Boxes (nostalgia), especially a lot of the Blue-Eyes's boxes. Other than that, I have master sets of sets that I liked GFTP, GFTP2, Legendary Kaiba Collection, etc in order to cancel the urge inside of me of wanting to buy and open.
I literally only have a few sealed products. It's hard for me not to open lol but the sealed product I have is still in its original packaging on my shelf.
Would it have been possible for the amount of water damage on the box to soak through to plastic coating and the packs themselves? Idk this because im not a collector but i just dont know if water could have made a big impact on the cards themselves
The thing is that box was sealed up pretty good or was it. The box was sealed from what it looked like at the beginning and wonder if the water damage came from when the boxes were put together to.
I bought a case of 25th Rarity Collection, while wanting to hold it for investment, seems far too much of a fun set to not open. But will probably be the set that holds value.
I keep my sealed products bubble wrap inside of other boxes like shoe boxes or Amazon boxes and then I just keep the boxes all stacked up nice and neat in the corner of my room or in the closet on the shelf I hope that helps you
I only keep stuff sealed if I know it’s valuable. Or I am pretty sure it might be over time. Although nothing with that is guaranteed. Lately I’ve been skipping sealed products and just investing in more higher end singles. Those are the cards I want the most anyways. Plus it’s a lot less bulk to store or sell.
I think what we need is a ghosts from the past 3 that gives the ghost holo to the cover card of all of the DM and early GX sets...and flame wingman while they're at it❤
