Why does the game getting faster always seen as negative I prefer modern yugioh I feel it gives a lot more strategy and interaction than lots of blowout retro formats also the games ending on turn 1 or 2 isn't as bad as many people make it out to be most of the time goat format can also be decided on turn 1 by looking at each over hand it just gives the illusion of a chance this is not to mention an ftk which people gentlemen's agree out of ever playing is the best deck

@@jaafarmhasan8713 I’m not sure too much about this, but when I said the same thing to a buddy who works for a card shop that hosts yugioh tournaments he said the current ban list makes it so people can’t win that fast. Whereas MTG, more specially EDH, people can now win turn 2 or 3 with the Thassa/Consultation combo.

The eldrazi decks during eldrazi winter had Extremely consistent wins and would reasonably commonly win by turn 1. Plus MTG has 4 copies of any non basic MTG card making decks more consistent.

Except its not lol Guinness Book of record has had Yugioh as the top card game in the world for a long time now, 1 thing magic had was it was bigger in North America only but couple years ago that drastically changed and now Magic not only plays 2nd fiddle like everywhere lol but it's not even close anymore pretty sure Magic is losing to Pokémon now. End of the Day yugioh has kept its #1 spot and only excelled in sales where as Magic has gone down hell I remember when Vanguard shot up and took Magics #2 spot for a while.

If we can make the assumption that due to different terminology magic counters can't stop yugioh effects and yugioh negates can't stop magic spells, then magic kinda can do similar. (Make this assumption because then it is just a drag race and we don't have to try to account for who has Force of Will, who has Ash Blossom, what would even constitute as a spell or activation for the purposes of using those, etc). Not listing out the whole combo, but Neoform combo, go into Laboratory Maniac, draw off the Griselbrand, win. Alternatively, ramp for Balustrade Spy/Undercity Informant, oops no lands them (technically could mill a yugioh deck entirely since there would be no lands in that deck either but that is besides the point), get 3+ Narcomoeba, flashback Dread Return, get Thassa's Oracle, win. Really, both games are fairly degenerate when no interaction is presented and you have access to the full age (not necessarily full catalog) of the card pool.

Deckbuilding centered around who gets a negate board first. Very fun. Very versatile. Most of the games look the same, 20% go beyond 2-3 turns because one of the players fails to achieve what their deck does because they get negated

Basically you'd enjoy playing Vintage. This is the problem with Yu-Gi-Oh today and why the game isn't very successful (power creep is also a growing problem with MTG). At the end of the day, you enjoy that. I enjoy games that take at least a few turns because there's so much time for decision making, mistakes, and corrections.

I wouldn’t really say that’s a problem with yugioh the game is by it’s definition has most of the time been quick paced compared to other very slow card games which makes it stand out very well and people love quick card games yes it suffers power creep but every game ever had suffered some form of power creep and the game is very successful I don’t know why you assume that considering Konami is still keeping it alive and there a very high money corporation so obviously the game is doing quite well

I go first(mtg player) reveal 2 chancellor of the tangle(creating 2 green mana), 1 chancellor of the forge(creating a 1/1 goblin with haste) play 2 groundswell (gives target creature 2+/2+, landfall gives it 4+/4+ instead) targeting goblin and enter combat cast tainted strike (giving goblin +1/+0 and infect) swinging for game before yugioh player can do anything

We got 8k LP either we play by yugioh LP or Magic LP, or we each get our own LP, if we do anything else than us playing with YGO LP you get killed by any Burn card, if we both go by YGO LP then your monster would have to attack 1600 times assuming you got a 5/5 monster

As someone who plays both you're dead wrong. CEDH, Modern, and other formats can be even faster. My friend and I devised a deck in CEDH that can win before its own turn. As for everyone debating if that's good or bad, it is what it is and is only bad if you're not having fun. I will say though in the formats I play (EDH) it's a lot less of a death sentence to draw bad than in Yu-Gi-Oh.

yeah, in vintage the sole reason they don't end turn 1 or even before you get your first turn all the time - due to the sheer amount of infinite combos in the game - is because you have enough free/cheap disruption spells (negate/counter, discard, bounce). meanwhile yugioh is restricted to 5 creatures and 5 spells/traps on the board

That's not even remotely true, have you actually played those formats? I play both regularly. Legacy is actually a pretty slow disruption-based format mainly and vintage acts somewhat similar, just with a higher power level mainly due to the power 9

Tempo became too high for competitive play. I actually like playing with, basically, lightly modified structure decks with friends and nothing bigger than that, because most of them at most have a combo to reach their in-flavor boss monster instead of 6+ generics always being negates.

Start the game with gemstone cavern in play by going second . before a card can be played i will discard a sylvan spirit guide or simian spirit guide from my hand. Then tap caverns for blue cast flash from hand for 2 mana. Go search up protean hulk and put it into play. Due to flashes effect since you didnt pay the creatures mana cost it is sacrificed. Protean hulks effect when hits the grave yard allows you to get any number of creatures with total converted mana cost 6 from your deck and summon them .You grab: 4 disciple of the vault(1cmc each) 1 blood artist (2 cmc) 4 hangarback walker( 0 cmc each) 4 walking ballista ( 0 cmc) 4 stonecoil serpent( 0cmc) 4 chamber sentry(0cmc) 4 phyrexian marauder(0 cmc) They all enter at once. Each cmc 0 creature will die as they enter because they have 0 toughness. Thats 20 creatures dying. The 4 disciple do 1 damage to an opponent when an artifact is sent to the graveyard. The artist will do 1 damage to opponent and allow you to gain 1 life. So you will gain 20 life bringing you to 40 and your opponent will go from 20 life to -80 life

As someone who plays both. Yugioh is a substantially less sweaty game: optimal play in yugioh is 2 to 3 negates and maybe a hand trap and clap back if the opening board is broken. It's easy to play around if you know how, Meanwhile in the magic communities I've seen if your deck doesn't have a semi-consistent way to get at least some infinite resource by turn 3 you lose. At least in the highest circles.

I appreciate yugioh’s faster pace, problem is fast is yugioh’s only pace unless you play with super old cards. Mtg has more to bring to the table then yugioh. Mtg is better suited for multiplayer matches with 4 player FFA, two headed giant, and Archenemy. Magic has planeshift which for the uninitiated is mtg’s take on field spells where you play on a plane of existence that has global effects and take turns rolling dice to either change planes of existence or gain effects. Edh is an entirely different beast of a gamemode that has its own set of rules built on top of the base game.

This is not a problem with modern Yu-Gi-Oh. The problem is with accessibility to cards that stop big bungus combos. They exist and playing around, with, and through them is what makes the game fun. They're just $50 a card and you need 9 of them

As a former yugioh player turned mtg player i can say that their isnt any comparison because they are 2 completely different monsters. The only mtg deck i can think of that is close to yugioh is storm which requires short term strategy. Your gameplan is solely based on that turn. Yugioh is about immediate value play creature a special summon creature b link creature c which searches and special summons creature d whereas mtg is based on incremental value and tempo, t1 land elvish mystic, turn 2 play a land and perhaps another ramp cards t3 if you are lucky you can drop a siege rhino that drains opponents for 3 life and u gain 3 life when it enters causing a 6 life differential which is huge in the game of magic

I prefer yugioh over magic mainly because there was never people to play magic around me to get into it I tried but the person teaching me magic moved and i never picked it back up but this argument makes it seem like you'd want games to end asap. Youll only have a problem if your deck is not balance.. just like on mtg.. you need to have land cards.. you need to add card counters on your deck.. to play woth modern decks.
