I was in working part time at a grocery store & I was in high school in 1987. I wanted one so bad! Me & a friend went to a Ford dealer who had all the Yugo's jammed up in the back of the lot piled in rows of 4. I test drove one having never driven a stick shift. lol I somehow managed with my friend in the passengers seat helping me drive around the neighborhood. Of course I didn't get one. My dad worked at GM at the time & would never buy a foreign vehicle. I got my moms used 82 Cavalier. Oh well. A fond memory.
Not an American car, the Yugo GV (aka Zastava Koral on its home market/Yugo 45 in Western Europe) was built in the former Yugoslavia, specifically Kragujevac, Serbia. One of the best things about a Yugo is that many Fiat 127, 128, X1/9 and Strada parts are applicable, to enhance both performance and durability.
