Interesting presentation, thanks for sharing. I visited Nova Gorica in 1993; it just felt empty, no central square, too much what I call "green stuff" (grass at sides of roads but no actual designated parks where kids can play football etc.) - many of the mistakes of modernism. It's a pity they didn't just follow the street plan of Goriza. It would be a better town, in my view, if it was a bit more built up in the centre and a proper Trg/square as a central focus. But interesting place to visit - is the casino still open? That was one idea in 1990s to try and get work and money into the town.
@C.B. great! Wuld like to visit there again. I'm a big fan of density, that is that cities and towns are allowed to be cities and towns not suburbs without a centre. More people in central NG makes it more like a small vibrant city. I was in NG as an individual in 1993 and travelled to Gorizia in Italy - which was the old town. I was there then in 2003 to as part of a study group about the Slovene minority in Trieste region - Trst, Goriza. As a Welshman I have a lot of respect for the Slovenes for fighting for their language and independence. And pleasant country.
