Those descending double stops in the first movement just floor me! Harrell makes the most of them. All the pizzicato sections are similarly gorgeous. This was my first glimpse of Yuja Wang; I'm suitably impressed.
I am a great admirer of Yuja Wang and I like Lynn Harrell as well, but for me this performance is not to my taste, especially because Mr Harrells playing is slightly short - breathed and he has a notorious behavior to end all longer notes with an unwanted accent especially in the first movement, which causes the music to fall apart into short, poorly connected phrases. And so Ms Wang, doing the best possible, cannot reach her usually outstanding level. Just my taste. Please note: I do not disrespect, I just disagree, maybe because the historical performance of Jacqeline du Pre and Daniel Barenboim is burnt in fiery letters into my mind.
@@wademanix8801 Perhaps terrible was an exaggeration, it’s simply the balance is off, the piano is lost behind the string. It could be the mic positioning is wrong for the shape of room they are playing in. It may be the flooring. Still great workmanship. Well rehearsed and wonderfully syncopated.
