This is one of those rare pieces that I think no one ever complains about its interpretation being too fast because the faster it is the more it comes closer to imitating the wings of a bumblebee.

Yuja Wang is a gift from the gods. It isn't only the speed that impresses. You can hear the melody shining through that impossibly furious attack with the rhythm completely intact.

My hands hurt just watching her, this isn't a bumblebee it is the whole hive. Breathtaking is all I can say, I did not know a human could do this, instead of a singe notes she did it in octaves. Bravo!!

Extremely quick with her hands I think it's obvious what everyone is thinking about: She would make a terrific typist in high profile court cases where a lot of dialogue is spoken quickly, or perhaps a fine cardiovascular surgeon where hand speed, along with precission which this young woman also seems to posses, are of the utmost essence.

Lots of people are bullshitting about how unmusical this is. Good for you, now look at the sheet music and realize that she is literally playing chromatic octaves. You're seriously hopeless if you think that this is the correct piece to comment about musicality. It's like comparing any of chopin's nocturnes to a chromatic scale. The piece is called flight of the bumblebee, bumblebees make an annoying buzzing sound and I certainly hear a lot of buzzing. I don't listen to this and expect to hear Richter's interpretation of Prokofiev's 5th piano concerto.

And she can perform slow movements extremely well too... Gorgeous!

It's not "Asian" that makes her an amazing musician. It's called talent and practice. haha And as far as musicality and emotion, it's called "Flight of the Bumblebee" for a reason. Sure she could have played parts differently, but if you expect a romantic love painting full of emotion and expression from this piece, I'm sorry to say, you're in the wrong video. I'm sure at her caliber, she has her own interpretation and emotional input in each piece she plays. I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong (because everyone has his or her opinions) but everyone should just learn to simply enjoy and marvel at great talent.

Magnificent virtuosity, but frankly, I think she ruined it. Like playing Moonlight sonata or Claire de Lune really fast and heavy. The music is supposed to evoke the light flittering of a bee, not a bee in a blender. Just silly willy waving. I will say though, she did get some nice rippling effects that put me in mind of the bee moving closer than further, but nah, not interested in speed for its own sake.

I'm going to need a blowtorch to remove my jaw from the pavement.

Performances like these usually split audience reaction between "Wow, that's humanely impossible! I'm so impressed" to "Wow, that's humanely impossible! It sounds like crap." We as listeners, onlookers, and critics have always given virtuosity the lowest-of-the-low reputation when evaluating performances, and I'm not quite convinced that we've done so for the most aesthetically virtuous reasons. We say things like "mere technique," "noise," "no substance," "boasting," and "only show." I seriously wonder if it's because of a subconscious, voyeuristic jealousy among us who only wish we could play with half the agility that we see here. Regardless of anyone's aesthetic position, the amount of dedication, work, and sacrifice that goes into being able to play like this deserves positive recognition. It does not in the least sound like garbage, as some people have flatly stated. One may not think it fits their conception of "music-making," a term always vulnerable to the vicissitudes of individual taste, and that's fine. It's another thing entirely to dismiss this accomplishment en-masse as garbage and worthless. Sadly, it's more telling of a critic's lack of perspective than of any shortcoming of the performer. Few people can play as fluidly as this, and the craft that Yuja Wang displays here deserves respect, despite whether or not one believes she's not musical.

Does she know how to control space and time? Is she a robot? Is she an alien? Does it hurt when she has an itch and she scratches? So many questions...
