I am still amazed how they pulled of two different lyrics, two different vocal shifts during a live performance, simultaniously. it must have been months practictising and I am so grateful they went through all that.
Yuki's composition, the clever lyrical interplay of the two lines, the separate vocal melodies and the live performance are a masterwork. I don't think anyone can call themselves a fan of music and not appreciate just on how many levels this works.
It is INCREDIBLE how they each manage to sing their part so flawlessly... and they're all on a different scale or note at any given point! I would have been singing the notes of the person singing next to me halfway through. :')
The point just as they say "place" sends shivers down my spine. The convergence of the two lines just...wow. Honestly, I don't know what it is about Yuki Kajiura's songs that make them so brilliant but...
Its like two lirics in pararell with a convergent end point. It makes you listen to the song multiple times to catch the full message. And the lyrics fits perfect for the anime character it was based on.
I completely understand, having a listening to this or to aura, the world, or a stray child now as an adult grips me in a certain kind of monent I find so hard to explain, a mix of nostalgia and a deeper sense of the gravity of the content then I once had maybe.
I truly love how certain songs from this 2008 live FictionJunction concert truly illustrates each singer's voice. This song particular does an excellent job showcasing Yuriko's beautiful voice (her tone in my opinion is great too, as well as her vibratos).
Brings back so many memories. And Wakana looks so different with short hair! Sometimes I have to double-take old performances to pick out the Kalafina girls (still sad Hikaru didn't do much with FJ)
So glad I found your sub, because I came here trying for the 40th time if I could discern the background round during the bridge starting at 2:52 "Now you are watchin' us..." I've never been able to discern all the words, but your perfectly timed subtitles made it finally easy to figure out. Thank you!!
Yuriko is the true master of mix voice, mask placement, and head voice in this group. It gives her a lot of versatility, and she also has access to a lower voice which she rarely gets to use as Yuki Kajiura relies on her to mostly stay in the higher mix-to-head-voice range. And she's got dynamics and control too!
I can see why Kajiura decided to give Yuriko the lead role in this song. It is no doubt that she carried the brighter side of the song and any solo verses; the sudden change from “In your hiding place” to “La…La…” was simply impressive. Comparing this old version to the reprised one, this one is a bit darker and covered with a depressed tone.
.hack//SIGN was one of my fave animes just for the music alone... I never thought to search for something like this. And now I know what the under voice is saying under Yuki's!
This performance leaves me goosebumps and speechless. It's impossible to dislike such a masterpiece. I can't even explain this in words. Ugh. I just love this song.
The more time passes, the more this song becomes the perfect description of life in the present moment. Stuck spending our day to day lives immersed in completely meaningless bullshit at the behest of indescribably disconnected and moronic business people, as we continue to slide deeper into fascism and the ecosystem collapses around us and are forced to pretend we don't notice. It grows ever more and more obvious, yet we all remain stuck, and retreat ever more into our hiding places as the social and cultural spheres of the outside world become ever more fractured and insane. I've connected with this song in this way for about 10 years, and that connection just grows deeper every year.
Don't let it lead you into despair. Let it radicalise you. Fascism is nothing but the the government stepping in to preserve the capitalist system once trust has been lost. Because the same business people we're dancing around for would rather preserve their oppressive wealth than allow any alternative.
@@salmongod9115 Heh, and my young ass thought I could preach to you. Nice to see someone who hates every facette of this wreched system not suffer reformist brainrot 🟥⬛
This was my first exposure to Yuki Kajiura. She's exceptional, great singer in every sense of the term. All of the singers performed beautifully. Most impressive, indeed! Many thanks from a 63 y/o Caucasian Texas cowboy, Graham Lake, Texas. PS: The band is great too!
***** Yeah. Kajiura is magnificent because of the effort she puts in. Granted, songs like this one really abuse the English language...but then again, she even manages to make this Engrish sound magnificent. That said, I prefer her Kajiuran-language songs. Those are the best examples of effort.
As a Kpop fan, I'm quite offended but you're right, they can't. One reason being they make POP music and another is companies aren't interested in making this kind of music. I don't see what Kpop has to do with this though. And Kpop isn't all about looks, they're about talent too. Which is why they train for years before debuting. Can we please just listen to the music and not compare two different things?
I know how you feel and I'm a slight Kpop fan. Sorry if I offended you but I'm not the one who said Kpop are just about looks. What I can say is that their singers love to dance more than make music like this. Don't hate me, ok? :-)
I always found Yuki Kajiura's music to be a lot more European, and thus better than most pop artists of Japan. As it turns out, for eight years of her childhood she lived in the great country Germany(western, obviously), the land of Beethoven, Bach, and Brahms.
I need more Yuki Kajiura back in my life. I think I'll take a break from rebuilding my Maaya Sakamoto/Yoko Kanno album to concentrate on rebuilding my Yuki Kajiura library.
In the land of twilight, under the moon We dance for the idiots Ring-around-the-roses, jump to the moon We sing with the castanets I will sing for crescent moon Dancing with the castanets As the end will come so soon In the land of twilight *Now you are watchin' us outside the circle Wanna be in the company Boy, but you are lonely Dance with nobody Run away child, to your hiding place *High and loud, the sound of your bell of the Twilight... ringing... All alone, it rings and echoes in twilight In the land of twilight, under the moon We dance for the idiots Ring-around-thе-roses, jump to the moon We sing with thе castanets
