By far the best movie of SRK! Especially in the scene when he comes back after finding out why Haridas couldn’t give rent and the hurdles he’s faced and when Mohan sees the kid selling water at the railway platform. This movie is a masterpiece.
In that scene, SRK, who is always seen carrying packaged water bottles wherever he goes, drinks normal water for the first time, signifying the spiritual reunion with his motherland. Credits to Ashutosh Gowarikar for such brilliant script.
Not many people would know this, Shah Rukh, Makrand Deshpande and Ashutosh Gowariker, who is the director of this film, have been friends since 1989 when they did a serial together called 'Circus'
This movie should be re-released every few years and shown tax-free. Humans forget things which are not in front of them. If any movie deserves to be called a masterpiece, it is this one. If every time it gets shown, it manages to bring a fundamental change in the thought process of just one human, it has done its job.
When the audience accepts a star they reject the actor in him.swades was a disaster n MNIK was a hit due to the initial it got because of the shiv sena controversy but not a super hit or blockbuster
The movie depicts true India. It was so heart breaking to see that little boy selling cups of water in train. He was deprived of his childhood. I watched this movie over 10 times. It really helps me understand my country better and feel for her. We don't see this type of movies anymore.
The line "Door wo kiska gaav hai?" always makes me smile. It always reminds me of the small villages which I have seen while travelling, which are the homes of so many people.

I love this movie.. white boy here. I was born in 1995, watched this movie when it came out. I was fortunate to have a father who exposed me to many different cultures.. we used to go to the little Indian markets and get the bootleg movies. A couple of my favorites; Lagaan, mission Kashmir, and swades. They remind me of my childhood. And how in my adulthood,they remind me of that childhood wonder I had about the world, and the unfortunate reality of it. Yet now that I’m older, and I work in the medical field, I see why this movie touched me..

Hariharan, Kailash Kher and Udit Narayan.... in no track could I have imagined these 3 coming together.... what a brilliant result. Unconventional Rahman, serene Javedsaab. And while Hariharan might appear simply a backing vocalist in this one, he did add a wonderful subtext.
Have seen many commenting about what srk should do and what not and all...has anybody really enjoyed this masterpiece for its music and ultimate singing of legends??
A masterpiece movie with a great music album and meaningful lyrics. I used to cry watching it when I was a kid. I still cry when I watch it. Whenever you are in doubt why SRK gets this much attention in the industry? watch this movie. SRK, Ashutosh, and the whole team have done a fantastic job. I want to see this masterpiece combo come back again with such stories and this time for sure the movie will be a blockbuster bcoz with time the audience has become mature and the taste for films has literally changed now.
@@razalrzl Well, If i could’ve supported this movie at the time of its release i would’ve. But considering that i was 3 years old when this movie came out, i’d say i wasn’t responsible for its failure. lol
This is the India it should have been,love the India shown in this movie,wish people could sing kitna hasin hai ye India,but a lot of us are ruining it today,communal violence is common these days.

I don't what has happened to SRK somewhere between movies like Swades, DDLJ, MNIK, Chak de India and nowadays he is doing movies like Raone, HNY, FAN, Dilwale, Chennai Express............nowadays every movie is judged on collections and views on RU-vid .............................We need more movies like SWADES again.................:)

This is one of my favorite songs in Swades. It's fun and uplifting and makes the spirit feel good. The singing sounds closely like Shah Rukh himself is singing and his voice is one of the features I enjoy best of SRK along with his facial expressions.

Udit narayan and a r Rahman great combination. Udit narayan has fresh melody voice. He has sweetest cleanest magical voice . Udit narayan is the greatest biggest original playback singer after Rafi sahb and kishore Kumar. He has great range in his voice.
I am so pleased and uplifted to find this song here today! It has been a favorite of mine -- the entire movie SWADES, actually -- for years. I love Bollywood movies, and they continue to uplift me; i traveled around India for 2 months, by myself, a few years ago, a 63-yr. Old American woman who has India in her soul, and met so many lovely people I'll always remember. Blessings to you!

Just imagine how this whole thing could have transpired with with Asutosh presenting the context javed writing the lyrics and ARR composing and choosing the right singers to sing their appropriate parts. Final finishing touch by Hari. Would have loved to see a BTS video on the making of this classic. ARR has composed a fair share of these freebird “road” songs.
