I just woke up and did not expect for this video to get the amount of attention it did... Thank you for watching everyone. I enjoyed Yunchan's performance a lot as you can tell. And I truly do believe that he will win the competition after last night's performance. Hence, the title of the video is my prediction hahaha. It's only a matter of hours before we find out! He's only 18 years old and capable of producing such breathtaking tonal qualities. This competition brings in pianists with incredible abilities. However, not many have given me the impression to watch them perform in person. Yunchan did just that for me with his performance of my favorite piano concerto. I could go on for days about how much I enjoyed his playing. And I'm glad to see so many of you all agreeing in the comments hahaha! :D

I particularly liked how Yunchan paid attention to the conductor and the orchestra rather than performing on his own, which led to a wholesome performance. He is not only talented but also very humble. He wasn't trying to show off to win the competition. Rather, he wanted to deliver the soul and inspiration of the composers centruries apart as best as he could, to the audience.

I had the great good fortune to see him perform Rach 3 for his NY Philharmonic debut with James Gaffigan last week. Extraordinary! And he took the 3rd movement EVEN FASTER!!! NYC audiences rock and are loud, enthusiastic, and appreciative. After two encores and about five long bows he came out from backstage and was crying. After a quick bow, he went over to the concertmaster and asked her to walk off stage with him, effectively ending the concert. Very touching end to an historical moment in classical music.

Here I am again, listening and weeping and getting those 'chills' again. Anciently, those electrical chills/goose bumps were called "horripilations." These horripilations were thought of as the soul's way of recognizing (confirming) the fact that one is in the presence of something extraordinary that was happening. In Indian these chills were called having a "samadhi" or experience of ecstasy. Being a direct experience of the Truth its self (above names or forms). Blessings on all you love. moi

The first time I ever heard the Rach 3rd was Martha Argerich playing this same cadenza. I didn't know there was an alternate one. I was in awe of her playing and I thought I had heard the definitive version. But, practically all subsequent versions I heard were the other cadenza. I thought there was some mistake and actually bought the sheet music for it to see what was going on. Sure enough, two versions. Over time, I came to like the more commonly heard one to this. But, after hearing Yunchan's overwhelming performance, I think this is the gold standard. There is no way he can be denied being chosen gold medalist. His playing is simply otherworldly and transcendent.

The so called :ossia" cadenza, the one most commonly heard is actually the original cadenza that Rachmaninoff wrote. I think it is much to be preferred, and is the only negative in this otherwise spellbinding performance.

This is a very bold statement but I stand by it: I feel like I now know how Richter would’ve played Rach 3. The balance between clarity/poise and drama/tension was indeed Richter-like. Maybe the best Rach 3 I’ve ever heard. I fell in love with this piece all over again after I thought it’d been done to death.

ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VegeLYrIw18.html Lim YunChan played this Arirang song in New York after winning Van Cliburn Competition. Arirang is most Korean’s favorite song and contains the emotions of Korean culture so beautifully. This performance makes me realise once again that the sound made by the performer is the sound of the soul. I hope that this resonance will deepen and expand as time goes by. I want to protect him so that the pure passion he has kept and built up will be continued. His last smile is sweet, warm, and full of charms:)

Thank you for your channel. I've not experienced this before. I could be wrong. But Yunchan went out there and owned this piece. And Marin knew it. The orchestra knew it. The audience was in shock. And I likewise just knew that something had happened. No use trying to analyse or predict. It simply was. The jury has no option neither excuse. A young man for this decade. (And I too have seen Horovitz ( London 1982)!). Phenomena etc.
