On Wednesday the 13th November, the Bram Stoker Medal of Cultural Achievement was awarded to Yung Lean by the University Philosophical Society. www.yunglean.com
"For me, it's like, I hear a lot of songs in colors. I think there's a word for it but..." I genuinely admire Lean as an artist, and even a human being. He's so self aware yet not self absorbed, and he's always speaking with so much consciousness.
it feels so nice to live and grow in the same time with lean like i started listening to him when i was 17 and a lot of things have changed since then idk, its a unique feeling and i think a lot of people can relate to this
eenkay I feel you I have similarities to yung lean.He has synesthesia.Im working to become an director myself.I look up to this kid ,thouxanbanfauni,Robb banks ,ASAP rocky & travis. All these artist have this movement where it’s very different and their craft touches you like no other artist.
ABREVIATED TRANSCRIPTS OF INAUDIBLE AUDIENCE QUESTIONS 15:05 - Is the creative process different making music for Yung Lean projects opposed to Jonatan Leandoer? 15:52 - What equipment did you have when you made Ginseng Strip? (the audience member also mentions the fact they are an aspiring rapper but doesnt own a computer which Lean innocently jokes about within his response) 17:40 - *unsure* possibly asking about something related to a show/live performance. 18:03 - What are your thoughts on success & reach for Swedish music artists, and how did you become noticed? 20:26 - How did you deal with the hate you received in the early years? 20:49 - *unsure* 22:17 - What was your influence to move to Miami & how did the experiences you have while there affect the music made for Warlord? 22:22 - Has your approch to lyricism changed over the years? Is it something you put time into with consideration or is it more spontanious? 24:10 - Have yourself or you guys (sadboys, drain gang, gravity boys, shield gang) changed your additudes since 2014? (as an example for the question, the audience member tells a story about the group being fun loving & mischievous with a loaf of bread when they were last in Dublin). 25:03 - Have you ever had an ordinary job besides making music? 26:16 - When you are in public do you prefer to be addressed by a fan as Jonatan or Yung Lean? 26:53 - Does drug use affect your creative process negatively or positivly? 28:04 - *unsure* asking something about Yung Sherman not being as active. 28:42 - Have you suffered from writers block and how did you overcome it? 29:30 - *unsure* asking something about mixing different genres of music together as one. 30:55 - Do you ever feel pressured that your not making the music the fans want to hear? 32:35 - *unsure* When will you play a show in Dublin? 33:00 - Can you explain your roman type tattoo on your neck? (I was not involved in this Q&A or apart of the audience, but as a viewer and fan of yung lean im just trying to provide a better experience for those who are struggling to understand the questions being asked to Lean, I will do my best to transcribe what I hear - but if I get something wrong or cant make sense of a question that has been labeled with *unsure* and you belive that you know what was said, please reply to this comment and I will update the timestamp, thank you!)
BboyStepsReborn thank u bro 😇 I originally was going to leave a comment saying “who’s gonna be the MVP and transcribe the crowd questions?” but then I thought of all the times on RU-vid when someone in the comment section has put in the effort for us viewers & decided it was my time to give back 🙏🏻
Never has an artist been so humble to share his mind with other aspiring minds. The fact that he’s constantly evolving and nerding out on music says a lot about his love of life.
I just recently got onto Lean, and I'm super disappointed that I didn't find him sooner. He's an unbelievably enlightened dude, and he is profoundly aware of his place in the world and that speaks volume as to his success in the industry. There's so much to be gleaned from this conversation. Also, seeing music in colors is called synesthesia. Skrillex has it as well.
Lean has always been so ahead of his time and just so odd and advanced. He's doing a QA in TRINITY COLLEGE. He was given a culture award. This man has always been on a whole different level. Always going against the grain.
*“I think the emotion and how you say it is more important than the words”* This makes a lot of sense and why I enjoy Yung leans music so much. I wouldn’t call him a star lyricist or singer, but it’s the fact that his lyrics feel so genuine and have emotion behind them. You can really feel it thru the songs and it’s what evokes emotion when I listen to a lot his tracks, it’s so unique
Nothing but respect for the man. Asking the audience members for their names first and making sure they're aight is such a small but important detail imo.
Some rare shit from Leandoer. Too many Interviewers been asking him basic ass questions and and not getting through to him. Props to this interviewer despite the many "and stuff"s lol for getting him to open up.
I remember discovering Yung Lean a couple of years ago thinking wtffff is this shit. I kept coming back and suddenly it hit me, I couldn't stop listening to his songs. I guess it took a while to understand his art. Absolutely legend though, no doubt. I love this video. The audience, YL, the interviewer, his friends, ... He's getting the apprecation he deserves. Such a humble, intelligent, respectable, brave dude.
This guy is the fucking coolest fucking guy ever man. I love him so much as much as u guys and I feel forever blessed to be able to appreciate this man’s craft and enjoy it with you guys
