This is just brilliant conducting - he knows what he wants, and asks for it, clearly has good friendly relationship with the players - enough to make some jokes; and his gestures maybe seen by some as over the top, but generally they are saving rehearsal time, since he doesn't have to stop to ask for things. And finally, that conducting was really clear in terms of beat, I'd have no difficulty in knowing where to place my notes. Conductors and conducting students alike should be taking notes on this master at work.
