This series is sponsored by Mira and Daniel Stokar, and this episode is sponsored by dailygiving.org.
In this episode of the 18Forty Podcast, we talk to Yussie Zakutinsky, rabbi of K’hal Mevakshei Hashem in Lawrence, New York, about his vision for a Judaism that unites the entire Jewish People-no matter how wide the gaps between us.
Since October 7, of the many schisms within the Jewish People, some have mended while others are torn anew. As a nation, we have much further to go. In this episode, we discuss:
-How can we see the divinity in Jews with whom we profoundly disagree?
-What do we mean when we say “the entirety of the Jewish People is an expression of God”?
-How can we rescue the divinity within ourselves and within one another?
Tune in to hear a conversation about, as the Baal Shem Tov described it, vanquishing the dragon and redeeming the princess-i.e., elevating the good in all the Jewish People. '
Rabbi Yussie Zakutinsky is a rabbi and spiritual leader. He is the rabbi of K’hal Mevakshei Hashem in Lawrence, New York, and is a sought-after lecturer and leader of spiritual happenings.

I’ve been dead inside for years. Overcame addictions and slowly waking up to chassidus and Kabbalah. I was a regular dude who went through the system and then medical school. It took financial struggles to wake up to Hashem. I hope Hashem gives me the strength…. I wish this rav could be my personal rabbi but I have moved away from five towns. Thank you so much for interviewing him. He has many shourim in Spotify. Kiruv kroyvim needs to be for people like me. So far away from Hashem even though we have frum kids and frum communities.

in my sporadic forays into TorahAnytime over the years, he's been my 'goto' person- deep, clear, Hassidic, and humble! A pleasure to listen to!

Reb Dovid, you're not alone. Moshe Rabbeinu had a similar struggle watching the disunity in front of his very eyes. So he fled and stayed away for 60 years. And during his tenure as the leader of K'lal Yisrael, he was constantly challenged to behold and defend the greatness of His People.

We are Jews. We are God's chosen people. We are a gift to the world. We are the world's supreme race. Period.

All races can become Jewish. The Torah doesn't elevate a race as being supreme. The Torah calls and expects every person born Jewish to act in a certain way.

I was privileged with a Torah education, thank God, but all of my educators and those of my sibs were Litvish Holocaust survivors who couldn't help but bring their trauma to school and subconsciously inject within us sadness, criticism, and even contempt. I recently saw a painting of a smiling woman who had been a Bais Yaakov principal for decades. I wondered why I couldn't recognize her. And then it hit me, all those years and I never once saw her smile, nebech. That nebech was imprinted on my neshama. I think the people have had a generation or two to recover and are much happier now and for the most part (I hope) are able to instill simchat chayim into chinuch. I've met people, among them Chassidim, Sfardim, and Yemenite, who are true believers and this instills simchat chayim in their souls and it shows in the way they educated their kids. I hope the disenfranchisement is soon going to be a thing of the past, be"H. I never even hear the term "simchat chayim" until after I was a grandmother to three children.

I'm going to be honest, I was excited for this episode when I saw it because I had heard many good things about R' Yussie and in my opinion he not once was able to answer bashevkin in a clear way, he uses the mystical-feel good wordplay but is not a player on the ground

"And we're all disgusted with the reality of exile." Huh. Can't imagine a way to remedy that. Oh wait. How can anyone take these religious communities seriously? Without ציון there is no תורה.
