If you run a two stroke out of gas when the engine is revved it can blow the top end. no gas = no oil = lots of friction = really hot!! My uncle blew the top end on our 2 stroke jet ski because he had it pinned and it ran out of gas. It may not blow if the revs aren't high but it only takes a second to go when there's no oil.

When you get a new top end you have to keep it wide open and let it warm up for a while

When you ride a 2-stroke you need to pull in the clutch when you’re slowing down or coasting. 2-strokes get their lubrication through the oil in the gas. When you let off the gas and slow down without pulling in the clutch, the piston is still moving at high rpms but it isn’t getting any lubrication since you’re not giving it any gas. You must pull in the clutch when braking or slowing down if you want your top end to last. Also buy a weisco piston.

If you run a two stroke out of gas if it’s pinned, that will most definitely cause it to blow. As the float bowl drains, the engine starts to run super lean, and when it runs lean, things get hot. That could cause the devastating “lean exhaust side seizure”. When that happens, the exhaust port and exhaust side of the piston get so hot that they melt, and seize in the bore, but should be able to kick over fine after it cools and contracts. This could also snag a ring, and cause loss of compression. Not to mention running hot from being too lean, since jetting affects lubrication, you will also eat up that piston and ring.

I have about 30hrs on my CR85 topend (Wiseco big bore kit) and it still has tons of compression! These engines die under engine braking. Also, I do one long pull, then bring thr rpms down to cruise.. I never ever ride fully pinned, I guess im super puss but I like to preserve my shit

A little engine breaking is fine. But after a top end blast, pull in the clutch and blip the throttle.

Your handlebars are to far forward. Loosen clamp and bring them back down to earth. Having a new top end requires break in. You guys just screaming the shit out of it. You need at least two tanks of gas, running at reasonable rpms. Didn't they tell you that when you bought your new piston and bore? It's like a new engine. It's not yamahas fault or the parts. It's your abuse and not understanding how engines work. I felt sorry for that new top end screaming down the road. Better luck next time.

Dude even if it is fresh rebuild he has it pinned you cant do that when you have a fresh rebuild

If it still has compression, isn't seized, and has no rattling noises coming from the bottom end, it's not blown up. you likely just fouled a plug or something.

You guys ever rebuild the bottom end?? You can't just throw a new lost in and ring and th Ink you rebuilt a bike. I change rings every 5 hrs pistons every other ring chsnge. Rebuild the whole motor 20-30hrs. Besides racing I've never pushed a bike off the track or out the trails.

For starters, get off that 2 stroke and get on a 4 stroke. You have no clue how to ride a 2 stroke and don't go full on a freshly rebuilt motor. You need to ease through it

Probably just fouled a plug, but if it is blown, when you ride a 2 stroke on the road like that, like idiots, and buy a shit namuara what do you expect? Those bikes simply aren't built for that, and engine braking is what killed it. IF you want to ride on roads like that, get a damn 4 stroke

When you're riding down the road like that on a two-stroke you need to blip the throttle because if you don't when you're coasting like that oil does not get to the top of the motor and that's what caused it to blow up

The cylinder is probably shot. You can't drop a new piston and rings in a worn out cylinder

You are jetted too rich off the bottom for certain and I think maybe too lean on top. I can hear it (too rich) when you ride in the woods. Try a smaller pilot jet and maybe a needle with a slightly bigger straight section. You will live how much it better it pulls in the woods.

So he pinned the throttle after only 2 days of rebuilding the top end, they need time to break in first dude, ride easy for a few tanks before going balls out. You don't see a marathon runner just getting up and sprinting, he stretches first and gets his muscles working, same with a bike.
