Personal opinion…but I think if the Wings do decide to go after a goalie, they should pursue trading for Markstrom. He’d be an upgrade and only has two more years on his contract. So…year one = Markstrom / Lyon, year two: Markstrom / Cossa, year three…Cossa is the starter and you find a new backup. I just think the timeline works the best.
First time I seem to really disagree with you guys. I think getting rid of the Holl and Copp contracts is key. If you have to keep Copp and don't want to do a buyout, you have to move a guy like Fabbri. Why in the heck would we need to keep Fabbri or Copp? Getting rid of them might be hard or impossible, but that doesn't change the fact that it's probably a necessity.
If anything, I can see a Berggren packaged with Copp for a decent return from one of the bottom feeders. We need a solidified checking line. Them two aren't going to get you a 2nd or first liner but you can definitely get a solidified third liner and a potential goalie with a pick in the mix. Berggrens gonna turn into a solid 2nd line winger but he clearly doesn't fit the structure Yzermans looking for and Copp does bring that veteran presence a rebuilder needs. Holls definitely getting bought out.
Everyone knows that wild goalies like Dom are a response to increased scoring. So with scoring going up goalies that cast style and positioning to the side are already being born.
Wings were a bottom 10 team in keeping shots off net. Im not even sure Vasilevskiy could help us much. Edvinsson needs to stay up, Kane needs to sign and a few others need to ride the pine. Fabbri, Berggren...
Package picks and Berggren for Marner, sign Marchessault and promote Kasper, Johansson, Mazur, and Nate. Yeah, they'll make mistakes early in the season but where have our 3 and 4 lines done? Oh, and let 88 go unless he signs for 2 years.
