Imported cars began to sell well in the USA for the first time in the late 1950s, as American car buyers increasingly were unhappy about how big and strange-looking domestic cars were becoming. For several years, all kinds of small European autos were sold in the US, along with the very first Japanese cars. Most of them were only available for a few years. Janus cars were imported, but supposedly only 20 or so were actually sold. I have no idea if that number is correct.
