Z31 Timing Belt Replacement

Excellent. One thing I learned (hard way) is to replace the oil seals on the camshafts and drive shaft. it is cheap and the one on left side facing engine will very often leak after a timing belt replacement. The one on the right seldom if ever does, but what the heck, replace both. When I did my timing belt the oil leaked afterwards and I had no idea why, so mechanic went in and charged me for whole timing belt job, so it got done twice. A timing belt "kit" should contain the seals along with everything else.

Tragically, my z31 has been not running for 15 years. I checked the other day its not seized. I want it running again. I got stuffed around between multiple mechanics who were unable to fix engine stalling, rough running in warm air temps, come open a shop up in sydney Australia

Excellent video, this is far better than the official z31 workshop manual which only tells u to count the belt teeth between camshafts. Not to set cyl 1 to tdc first nor does it show timing marks on the crankshaft

You are Correct on the Crank Shaft Bolt being 22 MM

Awesome video! This is super helpful for anyone going into changing the timing belt. It should also be mentioned for the noobs out there that they should really consider doing this if they recently acquired a Z. You want to make sure the timing belt is in good shape because this is an interference engine so if it breaks... Bad things happen! I'll be doing this soon myself and this video is super helpful - thanks!

Why did you decide to change the belt? I got a ‘85 that I’m scared to crank without changing it first.
