"That small town bar scene Where small vices kill your big dreams" To anyone who hasn't grown up in these small, sub 600 resident, towns, these lyrics are incredibly true. It's so easy to be the king of a small town. All you have to do is visit us and all we talk about is the good old days. Small accomplishments that we will never stop talking about because we never accomplished much else. Some of the deepest, most intelligent and talented people never find expression in their genius because they are drowning in alcohol in a small town. Zach killed it with this one.
hit the nail on the head their brother. I might be over sharing, but I remember leaving my small town to go on and pursue a career out of town. When I came back I visited the very bar I had left, and was eager to share my experiences and success. When I walked in, the exact same people were sat drinking the exact drinks talking about the exact same stories, the same they had made 15 years ago. It was a bitter pill I had to swallow. No one cared as to what I had done, infact I would say they were jealous, as someone had actually tried to better themselves and be more than what tradition had to offer. Others wont understand what thats like, but its something I have to now live with, feeling like an outsider when I come home to the place I grew up. Music like this helps, and although I may have left the town to start life elsewhere, the town never really left me, and I will continue to hold that flame inside no matter what I do.
@@dragonsofthunder disrespectfully i see the need to throat punch a lot of people commenting. a lot of people commenting have no common sense. very sad times we live in.
Yea every song I go back to my first real love it’s funny now because it was a long distance relationship now we can laugh at how dumb we were back then
He is an awesome song writer. If he holds it together he will have a place at the top. What an awesome young man. Looks like he's got some pickers that can grow along with him. That's part of there MAGIC...!
Bryd, she was so smart and beautiful, could've have left that trailer park we lived in behind for bigger and better things but she had shit taste in men. Haven't heard from her in over 2 decades, I just have to hope she finally found a someone to lift her up instead of drag her down. Not a "one that got away", just a dear friend. I had a crush on her sister though.
I accidentally stumbled upon this song… after 4 years, 6 black eyes. Almost missing a front tooth had to have emergency dental surgery to save it. A week in icu almost loosing my life. I have finally found peace in the violence. Thank you. I loved and he lost. I finally love myself and life again. I hope God let’s me shine now! 🙏
As a girl from Oklahoma, I loved a man who was like these two men combined. The pull men like that can have on you is almost impossible to explain, but I feel like he got the nostalgic and heartbreaking emotions that go along with it. Combined with the small town, simple life it’s something that’s very hard to let go of. But you can’t fight life and you can’t keep everything that is given to you. I can’t really describe how this song/video makes me feel, but thanks Zach.
“And you can’t keep everything that is given to you”. I struggle with trying to do exactly that, I need to learn to let go. I’ve never heard it put so well, thank you for the thought provoking post.
@@hannahhoward1216 I guess you never been in love triangle where are you know you should be with the good guy, but you only want t the bad guy but there’s a lot more to this song than that
I don’t see how,. you’re so beautiful. I’m a pretty good actor u could just let me know when and I can play both parts for you Someday and help you figure it out. 🤠Have a good day beautiful 😊😋
I’ve been listening to this guys music for a about a year but only whatever popped up on mainstream media. I finally started to listen to more of his music recently. I was listening to this one on my way to work a couple of days ago and it brought me to tears. This song is so good, & I love when music brings out so much emotion and you can actually FEEL what the song is saying
This looks like it’s been all cut up from a movie. It’s like it tells a huge story in three and a half minutes. This hits different than anything ive ever seen or heard. Literally found Zach’s work tonight and I’m so glad I did.
She used to play in the yard and she would dream of one day 'Til the world came around and took her dreaming away Told her how to dress and act and smile Well, damn. That made me cry.
As a man who has long double braids, and being with a woman who closely resembles this woman in the video, this one hits really close to home. So much so that the hair on my arms is still standing. And that is why Zach Bryan plays though my speakers consistently. Love the music, nay, art you provide to us. It is appreciated, loved, and absorbed like no one could imagine.
Lol get your facts straight goober it doesn’t matter. It’s still one of my favorites and got me hooked as a fan but I’ve been loving these shorts and new videos on RU-vid. Haven’t listen to one I haven’t liked especially the one about breaking down by Muskogee that shit hit home
I just found this song two days ago, and I can't stop playing it. This song resonates with me since I grew up in small town in Oklahoma. We all know someone who could be the character in the song. Also, what really impresses me is what a talented storyteller Zach Bryan is. He sings from the heart with passion and has depth to his voice, yet his vocals has a smoothness to it also. I have not listened to country for years since I live in a different part of the country now; but I am back to being a country listener thanks to Zack Bryan. He is bringing back country to the masses.
Hey thanks 🥳 for the love, dedicated, care and support you have showed me for year I need to appreciate you all because am nothing without you all I believe you're one of my best, great and lovely fan's ❤️😘 out there ?
yes ...small towns are great...im from a small too in oklahoma well i was born and rasied in okc then moved small town of stroud and then shawnee.....but yes good ol dirt roads and lakes or ponds...
I told you you were gonna go far bro.. im just sorry I never got to drum with u but that one night we met at my brother's Halloween party on my cajon.. my gf and daughter know all the words to this song its my daughter's favorite 😊 Thanks for being real and staying true to yourself man and making such great music
Zach, you won't see this comment, but this story is exactly what happened with me and a girl I knew and loved. The only difference is the "Oklahoma" part. The first time I heard this song, it just brought me right back, and I didn't know what to feel. Music like this that makes you feel, really feel deep inside, is the best kind. Thank you, man.
I was born in African, the furthest i have ever been is Asia i however don’t understand why I’m so connected with zach’s music and country music in general..much love from Rwandan 🇷🇼
Zach, your music came into my life at the worst (best) time of my life. Thank you for making such beautiful music that we can all relate to. You save lives!
Definitely. This is one of my favorite songs. Coming from a small town myself this hits home because I feel like it's me in a sense he's talking about. His music has saved my life as well, friend. We're glad you're still here and don't give up the good fight ❤
zach is such an amazing artist! These comments describes his work incredibly well. He is able to create a feeling on every song that most artists try a lifetime to achieve. His songs describes every feeling non of us are able to put in words. that is why his songs feels like home and it feels like an escape from reality
The most tragic Zach Bryan song anywhere from American Heartbreak onward, perfectly capturing the deep sadness of being a few years out of high school and having seen people's dreams crushed in real time. I wish this had a seven-minute version, because it feels like the story only barely gets started in the two verses that are on here and then is abruptly cut off, but this is still easily a 9/10 for me.
But. I think the "cut short" fits the vibes. Bc it, life, goes by soooo fast. Like the famous Good Will Hunting line.. "Tomorrow I'm gonna wake up, and I'll be 50.."..
Cool bro how did you contribute? I’m just curious? I would love a job like that well it wouldn’t even be a job. If you’re having fun, I do it for free.
@@DapperDan. I was cast as one of the teens in this one, most of our scenes were cut but we’re throwing stones during the lake scene. Helped crew on the last day, which is my norm. If you want to be part of a show, just keep an ear to the ground on local productions, they almost always need a hired hand to PA. Cheers!
beautifully filmed and written. My favorite of his songs. Here’s my little analysis if anyone cares to read it. The girl is youthful and southern and beautiful so she feels she has the world at her fingertips and although she tries to explore it, she can’t find the pertly or the right answer because each leaves her with an emotionless facial expression. This is more when she’s really looking at each of them or when they’re having a chill moment of any kind. When she’s distracted, dancing or busy being able to be a girl and not just a dress up doll, she looks happy. I hope that smokeshow found her peace, the men too.
Lyrics: Go on and put on that dress that all the bad boys like I know your daddy ain't home so ride with me tonight You always wind up here in a puddle of tears Them boys are out and they're angry and they're lookin' for blood In the back of a blue old pick up truck You've got nowhere to go although you're all gussied up There's so much whiskey in his Coke it'll make her nose bend But she swears that his love is a damn God send She's known God since she was a child She used to play in the yard and she would dream of one day 'Til the world came around and took her dreaming away Told her how to dress and act and smile She's an Oklahoma Smokeshow He's an asshole from back home She'll never make it out alive That small town bar scene Where small vices kill your big dreams He'd take you home but he's too drunk to drive I've been here, I've been up all night Thinkin' 'bout a life with you and I One you'll never know 'Cause you're a small town smokeshow Well, I've been here, I've been up all night Thinkin' 'bout a life with you and I One you'll never know 'Cause you're a small town smokeshow Go on and put on that dress that all the bad boys like I know your daddy ain't home so ride with me tonight You always wind up here in a puddle of tears Them boys are out and they're angry and they're looking for blood In the back of a blue old pick up truck You've got nowhere to go although you're all gussied up
I really hope he makes a music video for Tishomingo, No Cure, or ‘68 Fastback. I feel the story telling in these songs leaves an opening for a great video
small world, i was just watching your video and now i see your comment here. btw i'll be using your name in one of my videos if you don't mind, and will be misquoting you.
He's gotta make one for Something in the Orange, Jamie, Travelling Man, Crooked Teeth, Birmingham, Cold Damn Vampires, Open the Gates, Sun to Me, Oklahoma City, and Heavy Eyes!!!
@@ComedyBros5 I actually don’t think one should be made for Jamie. I don’t want Jamie to have a face because I as well as so many others have lost someone in a similar way and I think it’s nice that we can all picture our own someone. It’s also such a difficult topic that would be real hard to watch. Open the gates would be super sick as a music video though! Also Corinthians!
@@taranicole4849 That's a really good point. Hadn't thought of Corinthians, but it'd definitely be a great one! Needless to say, a lot of Zach's music could easily make awesome videos!
This song hits different and i don’t know why… it’s got a different feel than any other artist on the scene right now, I can literally play this song on repeat all day long and never get tired of it. I personally can feel this song in my soul, it puts memories in my head of awesome times in my life and I love it. Country music really does soothe the soul
So, thanks to Yellowstone on Paramount for introducing me to Zach Bryan! Wow, love his songs! So down to earth, they reflect a feeling that reaches to the soul! Love it!
Here the master Zac is coming to Melbourne Australia very soon, myself won't be able to go but from myself and A shit load of Bloody home grown people are wishing you all the best please feel like your home because we are very excited mate. Enjoy 👍🇦🇺🤘🇦🇺
I don't really even like country all that much but this is legit. Reminds me of most of my childhood and watching my friends relationships... Jeez what a random bunch of memories
When I hear this song, it always makes me remember a girl I met at the tail end of training for the army. She was from Oklahoma, Christian girl, great values, sweet for no reason and yes, she absolutely was a smokeshow. We texted for hours and she'd tell me all the best things about myself I wanted to believe. There was about 8 years between us so I thought I'd let her go but I sure do think about that girl sometimes..
8 years is nothing my dude. Should’ve pursued it. You don’t find girls like that anymore, unless of course, you’re in Oklahoma. We’ve got the best ones around. Good Southern values.
@j4ckfisha yeah, but if she was 8 years younger while he was ending army training, she'd be like 13 (assuming your aren't joining after 21) the issue ain't just the number but the ratio
My favorite George song . I traveled around the country for several yrs towing a bass boat and chasing bass tournaments, George Was always with me , I sang along on all his songs and it helped pass the long drive times away . But this is the song I like best . Those years were special yrs .this comment was ment for a George Strait song , don't know how it ended up here , I added an explanation when I realized it . But I'm leaving it here anyway. Ps I like Zacks music also .
I play this video every day at least once. I never tire of it. Such talent in their DNA. I live near their NorCal ranch and can’t wait for them to play here. ❤ RIP Hag Your sons are a tribute to you music style. Long live classic country music.
Been sober 1 year and some weeks from booze now I just smoke reefer take some shrooms and think about if she's ok, or if she really did make it out of that town alive.
ZB is the only new popular country male musician that checks every box for me… and this is coming from a longtime metalhead. He isn’t cheesy or cringey, he’s the right amount of raspy twang. 🥹
I can’t believe this video was partially at a college town called alpine Texas at Sul Ross state Unversity. I graduated their and it shows the town and Unversity and shows our western heritage and tradition. GO LOBOS
Beautiful man. This dudes changed my life and I’ll be forever grateful. Keep doing you Zach, me and the boys will keep belting them songs till our lungs burn. Love you man. Good work here
Damn man. My towns only claim to fame was an f5 in ‘97. Where you can always find snow and ice in the heat of a Texas summer. This song hits hard if you know.
This song always reminds me that everyone had someone they loved and had to let go. Everytime I listen to it, I remember that we all had some fucking good times at one point in our lives.
All of his songs just make me feel some kind of way... if you're having a bad day just listen to Zach Bryan... automatic pick me up.. I just absolutely love his artistry in his music.. So dang good!
I honestly don't know how my days would be without hearing his voice. Bc it's my ....close my eyes ...sink in ...I'm the only one in this world voice !
The song is a 10 out of 10... but the music video is just... chefs kiss.... just so well produced, love seeing music videos that actually follow the story of the song.
