Obviously not completely identical but it wouldn't be a stretch to say they are really similar, especially if you look at the history of ramen, it literally originated from chinese la mian and was knowm in japan as chinese soba noodles for a while
@@sincix446 don't know where you got "japanese food is chinese food" from, obviously they are cuisunes that still differ greatly. I'm just saying the similarities between Chinese and Japanese cuisune is much more tightly knit than other cuisunes, it's really not the same as vietnamese and malaysian cuisune as an example. Even in their languages they share many similarities, with the Japanese borrowing certain words from the Chinese languages. It's racist to say that they are one and the same i agree, but that isn't what is being said, what is being said is that the cuisunes are similar which in all honestly isn't that far off from the truth. Just because two things are distinct doesn't mean they cannot have overlapping traits
Also, how does one not know how to pronounce soy sauce? The first time I heard him say sewy, i had no idea what he was saying. it took him mispronouncing bok choy to realize what he was saying. man needs to relearn his alphabet
Just because you hear a word pronounced correctly once or twice doesn't mean you'll retain it - especially if you've gone your whole life thinking it's pronounced a certain way And it's a foreign word, so it's even more difficult to make it stick.

Homemade Japanese food is actually a lot like Chinese food. Sushi, ramen, etc, are modern Japanese and aren't traditional Japanese food. Ramen is in fact Chinese origin and not Japanese.
@@devilhunterred pretty much, its the same yet different, depending on whats available to them. Although you never write ramen in kanji rather katakana which shows more that ramen did not originate in japan :D
It's nice to see that Gordon only really gets angry when he's in the kitchen with incompetent cooks or under a lot of pressure. In the more relaxed areas of his shows, he's a very calm and encouraging person.
"I ain't gonna get caught up in labels" "Japanese food is like Chinese food, and the only reason I know that because my one Korean friend told me this"
“Japanese food is like Chinese food because my one Korean friend told me this” is similar to “Italian food is like French food because my one German friend told me this”
"Souy sauce" and "bok chewy" might be funny, but what is truly hilarious is whatever comes out of Nedra's mouth. There should be a compilation video of her best moments.

Mary choosing John: I respect him as a competitor and it will be a bigger challenge to go against him Nedra choosing janelle: "Chose you bitch" Zach getting chosen by Susan: "Bitch, are you crazy?"
Mary's attitude got my support for her. I never truly think she'd win, but I started to support her since Zach kept telling her the Red team was trying to bully and get rid of her. And every little moment like this, show her respect to everyone, everything. She's one of the most positive person, with Rochelle and Sterling.
Mary seems like a wonderful person and a great cook, I just feel bad because I could never get past the voice. Mad props to her for choosing who she saw as the strongest competitor.
@@bellmsky thank you for this comment, cause this is literally exactly how I feel too. She’s definitely going to go down as one of the best chefs no matter what
It's not funny. It's annoying as hell, because she knew she didn't know what she was doing and made fried calamari for a fkn Thai dish like an imbecile. She shouldn't have been surprised she lost.
@John Broward I do think black people should have their rights, BUT you said that that was an example of black excellence. He just compared Chinese Food to Japanese Food thinking they’re the same. That’s what people usually think. And I’m fine with that. You said that him comparing Chinese Food to Japanese Food is “black excellence” meaning you don’t like black people for thinking Japanese Food is the same as Chinese Food.
Nedra was really stunned that she lost. In a direct competition to see who cooked a better Thai dish. After borderline refusing to make a Thai dish. To someone who actually knew a Thai recipe.
Meh. UK (and I think Europe) calls it pak choi and neither sounds like what it's called in chinese anyway, so not too bothered about a different romanisation of the word tbh
Lol that’s literally like some Japanese dude saying “African American soul-food is like South African food, I know this because my one Jamaican friend told me this”. 💀
Lmao I'm guessing his mom told him it's pronounced like that and no one ever corrected him. How the hell can you mispronounce SOY sauce? It's one of the top 5 condiments in the world, mentioned on countless movies and tv shows and everyone has at least one bottle in their cabinet..plus I refuse to believe an American chef who loves food has never heard anyone else say "soy sauce" correctly for 30 years lol
I just said something about this to someone that was laughing at bok chewy. I mentioned that he also mispronounced soy sauce 🤦🏻♀️ The fuck is suewy sauce?? 🤨
In all honesty, I don't really like Nedra, I guess her attitude just doesn't vibe with me, but it was so satisfying to hear her just be at a loss for words for once XD
She was funny but she wasn't much better! Why would you enter a cooking contest and not know how to pronounce your ingredients. That moment he didn't know what the green was on his dish, he stopped deserving consideration. He made himself look stupid.
*01:38** - wheel lands on Indian cuisine; middle Eastern music starts playing* *02:40** - wheel lands on Japanese cuisine; Chinese music starts playing* Oh well.
@@pavithra7818 it's the right flag. The Indian, Spanish, Thai, and Moroccan flag boxes work viewed from above. The Greek one is actually the most wrong
I Love Mary's mindset. She just wanted to beat the strongest chef out there because for her, it will be satisfying. Unlike others, when asked who want them to beat, they'll most likely answer "the weakest cook".
Damn I don't see any comments talking about how Ja'Nel kicked ass in this challenge. This judge went out of her way to make another complement and make sure she knew how extraordinary her dish was. Wow what an experience that must have been.
damn comment section going in, it was obviously a joke lmao Edit: well shit I guess the show is also racist. they even added a gong sound effect during the interview. I expect all of you to stop watching the show for racism.
Mary's comment would definitely be a global trigger considering how many countries love and depend on rice lol. Lot of hipanic, mediterranean, and asian countries lol
"and the only reason my Korean friend knew that, is because his Taiwanese friend who grew up in Laos told him that he learned it from his Laotian friend who is part Philippine."
It’s kinda frustrating that so-called professionals can be so indifferent to the fact that each culture’s food can have markedly different flavor profiles and preparation even within the same region. No, Japanese cuisine isn’t like Chinese cuisine and your attempt to say that it is excusable since you “know flavor” instead of admitting your ignorance and the importance of that knowledge is frustrating. Otoh, kudos to those who managed to somewhat emulate the unique flavors of the cuisine they got.
@@nightmrj you do realize America is a melting pot of different cultures, sure some people were born here, but there’s a lot of people who have immigrated over to the Americas. Or brought over here centuries before.
@Puss in Boots Thank you. That is not Southern, that's straight up ghetto. My whole family is Southern and and has been for decades and none of them sound like that. Some of them might not sound very sophisticated, but they know how to speak. The ghetto ones are the only ones who sound like that.
It’s not so much him “mispronouncing” it as it is him not respecting the culture and saying something goofy on purpose. The chef against him had just called it “Bok Choy” 2 minutes prior so he knows that’s correct, and he also called soy sauce “suey sauce”. That was all on purpose.
Im glad im not the only one that noticed. He was being very disrespectful to the entire asian culture, but if someone made the same jokes about soul food or African food they would get called racist immediately smh..
Being extremely generous to Zach, hearing someone say something just before I say it wouldn't help me, he could be the same. When I'm preparing to talk, I have to really concentrate on what I'm going to say and so may miss what people are saying around me, and even if I do hear them, I'm probably not going to be able to change what I'm preparing to say. I've heard some pretty crazy pronunciations of worstershire sause and even if I said it before someone else tried saying it, it can take a few attempts to get it right, something that Zach didn't get the chance to do in front of Ramsey. However, I think bok choy and definitely soy sause are common enough for someone, especially a chef, to know the pronunciation and even of they can't say it properly, can get fairly close.
Well of course chicken is on Japanese menus. But saying you don't see much means that while there many chicken dishes there's more fish. And fish is more representative of Japan mainly because you know, Japan is literally an island. Raw fish is very popular there and chicken seems to be like a universe protein and doesn't really associate to any cuisine in all honesty.
@@zacheryjequinto7259 There are as many chicken places in Japan as fish places. Near where I work there’s several karaage places, yakitori places, Chicken Katsu places. There’s one sushi place. Sushi, unless it’s the conveyor belt places is kind of a special day meal a lot of the time.
All I can think about is how when they’re spinning the wheel, they probably had to spin it a million times bc most of them were already taken. I can just see the editing room now 💀
what chef doesnt use a rice cooker? It literally gives you perfect rice every time, its literally the same thing as making rice in a pot but its automated and calculated to be perfect. There is no reason not to use it, especially as a chef.
@@crazydave1 Not necessarily, at least not for long-grain rices. If you cook it like pasta - more water by far than you'd normally use for rice - then strain it when it's done, it's pretty much impossible to get wrong. And in a restaurant setting, it's a lot quicker than a rice cooker.
I love how some girls are dressed in relatively modern styles from certain countries and others are more traditional haha. I guess some countries wouldn't be recognizable to the average viewer in their older fashion
I thought about that too but then I thought some more and I don't see a recognizable French (I'm French) traditionnal outfit that also wouldn't be the most inconvenient dress on that set haha. I guess some countries are smarter and have outfits that are beautiful, recognizable and convenient
Really, Jon is such a poor guy during this season. He was the only one on the Blue Team who was actually capable, yet he always got dragged down by them.
Nedra is honestly hilarious with how delusional she is. Doesn't know a thing about the food she's supposed to be cooking then gets mad someone who was actually on theme did better
Wait, so someone who does cooking for a living has never, EVER, in his life, encountered bok choy or Japanese food? That is...fascinating. Truly, I wonder how some people ended up in this industry...
I’ve been living in Japan for the past 14 years. That “I don’t really think of chicken when I think about Japanese cuisine” is incredibly wrong. Chicken is eaten here almost everyday. While restaurants are dedicated to just chicken BBQ. Japan consumes the largest amount of eggs per capita. A normal kid’s lunch MUST contain a fried chicken, called Karaage. Yakitori, chicken skewers are one the most popular pub foods. Chicken and egg rice bowls,... shit you can even get raw chicken dishes here, no joke, effin raw! Anyways, that comments just proves that she has absolutely no idea about what she’s talking about and uses stereotypes as actual knowledge... I’m disappointed that Ramsey didn’t know better and didn’t put her in her place...
So true .chicken is famous anywhere in the world .but then I guess i will have to consider the fact that it’s coming from westerner chefs who go to some fancy restaurant and eat sushi only
