Zach Rambles About Windows Updates for 30 Minutes 

I haven't used Windows since Windows 7 when I started using linux. I just bought a Windows laptop 2 days ago and I immediately installed MX Linux (linux can be tricky with laptops but I did my homework to find a compatible laptop) to dual boot with Windows 10. I've already had 2 updates and they are nasty tieing up your computer without warning. Ridiculous. The sense you get with Windows as a linux user is that you're totally not in control of your own property.

If it happens again it might be the settings in your "Power Options"... Make sure you're in "High Performance" and "Minimum Processor State" is set to 100%.. otherwise windows will throttle your CPU

Got to love how they do break things now and then. Two years ago I installed a big update for Windows 10 and kept getting BSOD when it failed, repeatedly. Ever since then I am anxious every update, ha! I rather do them in chunks now, once I see bigger problems fixed. Peace of mind is important.

Hey Jar Jar. :-) Why back in my day, we installed software from floppy disks, and we liked it! (Not) The key to M$ updates is to use an SSD. That's it. W95/W98 were easier on hardware requirements than current versions W10/W11. The key to avoiding M$ complications all together, is to avoid M$ for your daily driver PC. My current daily driver computer runs Debian 11. GNU/Linux kicks ass, second to none. My only use of M$, by way of W10, is gaming. Everything else I do on Debian. Sometimes I even game on Linux, courtesy of Steam, dosbox and wine. Zach, if you haven't tried Linux, I recommend it. You'll be surprised.

The only Samsung SSD without problems I've owned over the past years was one of their first SATA SSDs. Since then I've seen buggy firmware leading to data loss, throttling, floppy disk speeds, and so on and on. I just recently needed an NVMe SSD and thought: let's give Samsung another shot. The firmware was buggy giving incorrect temperature readings resulting in random warnings, throttling... This was the last Samsung SSD I will ever return, because I'll never get a Samsung SSD again.

Sound devices get messed up after EVERY. SINGLE. Windows update and it pisses me off! Windows updates and then I'm spending 15 minutes reconfiguring all of my audio devices in OBS and Voicemeeter. I had something similar happen to my rig awhile back but it was a bug in the AMD GPU drivers that would randomly change your max CPU clock speeds to a ridiculously low value if you utilized the GPU tuning utility in Adrenaline in any way (don't ask how it messed with the CPU when it's a GPU driver). Ended up having to use a special tool to remove the part of the driver suite that allowed it to monitor CPU usage and that fixed the issue. Then there's the fact that I can't run any AMD GPU driver past May's release since it doesn't allow ENB to work with GTA which is a problem since that's crucial to using NVE. I spend hours trying to figure out how to get it to work but ultimately just gave up and went back to the May driver.

Always a PC guy, but just so happened to be refurbishing and upgrading two old 2009 era Macs to flip for some quick cash (don't knock these things they still got a lot of pep for great prices), so I thought it'd be fitting to watch this on the MacBook Pro while I work on the Mac Mini lmao

The latest update fucked over my Razer headset, and I could not get the headset to work properly. The normal audio device reset fix didn't work. Thankfully a repair of Razer's Synapse software fixed it . . . until I rebooted. Headset failed again! Rinse, repeat.

Ahh the joys of technology. We got a new PC a few months ago and I soon discovered that my Logitech G27 is not compatible with Windows 11. Logitech's response? Wheel is too old, get a new one of ours as we can't be bothered to do anything about it...so I went out and got a T150, Logitech can suck it :P

I switched to chrome book but still have a windows 10 desktop to print of pictures and stuff but I really love chrome book after 7 Microsoft became junk to me

My suggestion: don't install all the crap software/drivers that various hardware manufacturers offers. I will clutter your Windows installation and just slow down your system (and use up RAM). On AMD systems, all you basically need is the chipset driver and GPU driver. And UEFI/BIOS updates. For monitoring I recommend: RTSS (with MSI Afterburner), Hwinfo64, CrystalDiskInfo. Don't use tools like Ryzen Master/Intel XTU if you don't know what you're doing or have no overclocking experience. The main options to change in UEFI is the RAM profile (XMP/AMP) and fan curves (if you have PWM fans and don't use fan-control software in Windows). @Zach: technically, it is RAM overclocking, but it's a manufacturer-provided and -tested profile that usually just works. On Windows updates: install security updates ASAP. For other updates, I usually wait a while until other people have done the beta-testing for Microsoft and Microsoft fixed the issues. Also, for larger updates there usually is a list of "known issues" that you can look at before installing it.

Back in 2019, Windows 10 had an update and it ruined my pc. They went into files they weren't supposed to. They messed up and ruined the graphics. They UNINSTALLED the program we NEED to install and uninstall programs!!! 🤦‍♀️😓 It freezes every 2 seconds. The start up is effed up too. So, where's what I did: I contacted Microsoft to tell them what they did, what model and such my pc is. Turns out the update they did was not compatible (Obviously!) with my pc. They apologized, but it's ruined. My pc is also a touch screen and Microsoft said, as well as the company my pc is from, that not many of those got sold. Limited number out there, so Microsoft didn't have these in their system that they had any customers with this. It wasn't new, only like 3 or 4yrs old! So even with a factory reset, the program it needs to uninstall/install programs is not on it at all. My pc was working ok prior to that update except the graphics was freezing every 5 seconds but only when playing a game, not when running anything else, even youtube ironically. I've no clue what to do with this now. Without what it needs to install/uninstall, I can't fix it, reset won't do any good, can't sell it as is, can't even scrap it, it just sits on my desk collecting dust. So, I'm without a pc because of what Microsoft did. And they should've known my device since we had it for few years before it happened, and the setting was on where it sends info to them you know. I still believe they owe me a new pc and I said that to them, and since then they keep messing with my microsoft account, removing info, changing my photo, etc. So I've cut off Microsoft til they grow up and act like a responsible company. No pc means I rely on my phone for internet, so I find out who still hasn't made their websites mobile friendly too. For 3yrs, I had no access to my kids school website that they kept saying we needed to access for info🤷‍♀️ They never believed me. Now they finally have an app we can use. In early spring last year they sent out an email with a survey basically saying, "Do you really have no or poor internet at home?" They were in shock how many of us rural familes rely on our phones or would need hot spots. So when Windows ruins a pc, there's no more online access for many cuz having 1 bar of service on our phones, 4Glte, somethings never load. AT&T doesn't care.

Windows Updates shouldn’t break your computer, windows should recognize this and fix it or someone should make an app that tells you what windows broke so you can fix it

xtu fucks your windows registry even if you uninstall it' it still fucks you over. So stay away from it
