@@SL-ld9tn I don’t know haha. Seems like if they didn’t like jazz they would stick to a straight forward formula instead of playing in odd meters. But who knows 🤷♂️
If you can't follow what he's playing, sure. If you can, it actually turns out to be much more than physical endurance. Shitloads of time signatures and different patterns come and go.
Reminds me of three of the greats- Thomas Pridgen (Bedlams/Octahedron- TMV) Damon Che (Don Cabellero), and Billy Rymher (Post 2008 Dillinger Escape Plan). Thomas and Damon have much more grove, but holy SHIT are their chops good... And they all always sounded so unique despite having stark similarities (at least in my opinion).
i have never in my life appreciated zach when he played in this manner. hella could have been a lot better if he didn't just go bananas on the kit the whole time. i do enjoy their performance art type stuff, where live Zach will play on a kit made of random pieces of metal because he's limited and forced to play a linear groove, but when he just sits here, as guitarists would say, wanking around, its just not enjoyable if there is no structure... same thing with Tera Melos original drummer, its great and experimental but as soon as they go off on the endless snare rushes and fills it just sounds stupid.
@@badcaseofthebajabada I don't see how it's entitled, the guy isn't telling Hill to stop drumming like that. Personally, I enjoy really chaotic drumming like that, but it can get old pretty quickly.
