Here is a rescore of the anointing/coronation of the Queen from the series The Crown. I do not own rights to the video used. Video is from the Crown Netflix series.
Can we all just take a minute to appreciate the fact that, in order for Netflix to accurately recreate this scene to full effect, it had to spend millions of dollars to have Claire Foy *actually* (in effect) *coronated*
@@ageofgreen99 No because to be a queen/king you actually need to be coronated by a powerful religious figure or descend from a royal family, which she is not.
and now......we will see the rites done for real within some months. beware: a full Choir belting out _Zadok the Priest_ is much more overwhelming than the netflix piece
I've performed Zadok the Priest, and belting it out was one of the best feelings I've ever felt in my life. The energy, and everything, its just so beautiful.
@@seanwebb605 The anointment (oil part) is always private. Holy Oil is placed on the monarchs chest - after the anointment King Charles knelt before the Arch Bishop in a simple white shirt, representing that he comes before god as a simple man which we all saw. He was then dressed in holy robes... the first of which was his grandfathers at his Coronation. It was so moving! Zadok the Priest is still in my head.
the anointing is done under away from the view of those present in the abbey--a canopy of brocade gold carried by 4 knights of the garter is held above and over the sovereign as he/she is seated in the st. Edward's chair. At the Queen's coronation, the cameras had to turn away during this part of the ceremony
So yesterday we learned that the portion with the oil is done in privacy. Those in the room and watching on TV can't see it. Only the minister and the monarch. No looky looky for anyone else.
I'm not religious but I do respect the beliefs of others (as long as they're not mad killy ones), so I think it's right that no-one sees the monarch make his or her own private vow to God. It's the most sacred moment of the service. More important than the actual crowning.
In season 2 there is a scene where Elizabeth is getting her iconic haircut, with Zadok The Priest playing in the background. That was her true crowning scene ;). A very brilliant decision by the director to save the song for that scene instead of playing it for this one -- to not be so predictable and add a bit of humor and humanity to Elizabeth.
LA PIEZA SE LLAMA ZADOK THE PRIEST O SADOC EL SACERDOTE.FUE CREADA POR EL MUSICO ALEMÁN DE ORIGEN SAJON NACIONALIZADO BRITANICO GEORGE FRIEDRICH HÄNDEL TAMBIEN CONOCIDO POR CREAR EL ALELUYA. SU PIEZA ES USADA POR LA CORONA BRITANICA DESDE EL REINADO DE JORGE II EN INICIOS DEL SIGLO XVIII EN SUS CORONACIONES Y MATRIMONIOS. SU MELODIA FUE USADA POR TONY BRITTEN PARA CREAR EL HIMNO DE LA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.
I don't know if that's how they anoint with oil in this rite, but typically whenever the sign of the cross is made over people, either by tracing it with the hand or by anointing with oil, they go from left to right, not right to left as shown here.
Higgledy-piggledy Charlie, dear kitty-cat What do you think of King Charles, his Grace? I’m planning on sleeping And purring and eating; My schedule is full, May he reign in my place!
Question is, why this time around was her son Charles III behind the screen for this very same anointing. If it was sacred enough for her to do in front of the public her subjects, why was it to sacred for her son to carry out in public!!!
Good question. The screens are a new idea; at earlier coronations four Knights of the Garter brought a canopy of cloth-of-gold to cover the monarch during the anointing but it did not screen the ritual from the congregation. However, the 1953 coronation was televised and, to mark the special sacredness of this part of the ceremony, the cameras were turned off so that the TV audience couldn't witness it. All very odd.
Those are coronets , worn by noblemen/lady. From: google, The coronet is more than a badge of rank and item of ceremonial dress. It expresses noble status and family lineage, values which find potent expression in heraldry. Members of the peerage are entitled to use the coronet in their coat of arms, where it customarily appears above the shield and below the helm and crest.
@@ninjasrule And, apparently, to wear a physical coronet at the coronation. Each of the five ranks of the peerage (duke, marquess, earl, viscount, baron) as its own distinct robe and coronet, so if Netflix was fully committed you could determine each person's rank just by their regalia.
Well, that was the point, to point out that underneath all the pomp and ostentatiousness of the ceremony was really just an ordinary woman undertaking a mythic ritual that suggests that she and her line are annointed to reign.
I'm trying to think three things more outdated than a monarchy......here comes the first one.....witch burning......here comes the second one.......slavery.......3rd one......roman numeral algebra.....
First found Zadok the Priest has more power than this piece of pseudocineematic. All honoour to the actors thou- that's not yopur fault, acting in this cringe piecee of s.
