I had a public lesson with Zain where we the necessary components of entering The Matrix, aka obtaining perfect execution. A good watch if you're wondering how to improve your execution!

In the beginning when you’re talking about confidence, I feel like it’s partly about control over the game. It seems like zain is describing the feeling of pretty much being able to do whatever you want to the other player, partly because you feel like you’re in complete control of the game and outcome. When he talks about being swaggy in unranked, it seems like he’s talking about knowing that you can do one thing, but opting to do another thing literally just because you can. And testing the limits of what you can get away with doing

35:50 If you want something to focus your brain on while you play/practice that is kind of background, I would recommend really focusing in on how your hands are gripping the controller and how the motion of your thumbs is feeling. The point of turning off your brain or focusing on some meditative concept like thinking about the ocean or your breathing is to prevent overthinking from interfering with your technical execution. Your inputs will be at their best and cleanest if your brain is quiet. Focusing on your hands and fingers will give your brain enough to focus on that it won't wander into random thoughts, and can come with the added side benefit of noticing exactly how your hands are either executing or misexecuting your tech. To practice this you can start by trying to feel out the boundaries for how light and quick you can make your inputs while still making sure they come out as intended. Are you slamming the controller super forcefully in any directions or during any input sequences? Could you move your thumb more quickly to the next input in the sequence? Are you moving too early with any inputs? Hone in on thinking about exactly what you are trying to do in game, what the input sequence for that will be and how it should feel to execute. This can really help with speeding up your execution if you practice making your physical hand motions as light and effortless as possible. It will allow you to flow more easily from one input sequence to the next, making improvising in unorthodox situations feel more comfortable and less clunky. Practicing feeling out your input sequences while in uncle punch with on screen displays for how frame perfect you are can help cement in what perfect execution feels like so that it's easier to fall into a groove where your hands are moving totally unencumbered. Obviously Zain's advice was different from this and his path definitely worked for him, but I think the way you two view the game is different enough that trying to mimic his mentality towards improving execution might not be the cleanest route for you to take. It's really really hard to go from an overthinking mindset to a totally cleared empty-headed zen mindset even with significant practice; and so practicing with a concrete thing to focus on that's still meditative (in that focusing on inputs at melee's speed will be too much to focus on while also thinking about things unrelated to the game) and gameplay related might be the best way for you to start practicing this skill and work towards improving input speed and precision.

Maybe, I think focusing on the hands makes them sluggish when you need them to be instinctual and without thought, I’d much rather have my brain thinking about neutral than thinking about my hands execution, that should be automatic and perfect via practice IMO.

@@firstlast-wg2on right, but Kodorin is kind of having the opposite problem in that he's great at thinking about neutral and wants to really focus on execution. to build up the ability to have perfect execution without thinking about it, I think the best approach is to start by hyper focusing on your inputs and hands during practice so that you can dissect exactly where you might be losing frames or are defaulting to an uncomfortable or inefficient finger movement. after practicing like this for a while you will hopefully engrain what frame perfect movement feels like and can then work towards backgrounding that focus in game and bringing more neutral analysis to the forefront of your mind while playing. so you're 100% right that the goal should be automatic and instinctual frame perfect inputs during tournament matches, but he's asking (at least from my understanding of this coaching session) exactly how to practice building up that muscle memory.

Just so you know, a barometer is used to measure air pressure. It’s not a general term for a measuring instrument.

It actually very commonly is used as the generic term for a figurative measure of something. It's one or two of the definitions in any dictionary.
