I was listening to this once, by myself, on a heavy dose of mushrooms, in the middle of the woods, at somewhere around 3am, when I opened my eyes and saw the stars through a break in the trees, except one of the stars was moving, slowly, in one direction... turns out it was the International Space Station... what a coincidence that it would fly by my break in the trees at the same moment i opened my eyes.... what a trip that was...

A Guru Shishya pair that lifted Tabla from being an accompanying instrument to a mainstream instrument. Their contribution to the world of Tabla is immortal.
With all due respect to the Maestro pair who will indeed prevail as immortals in the history of Tabla, the first exponent who elevated Tabla playing to the status of independent music was none other than Ustad Ahmed Jaan Thirakwa Sahab through his several immortal solo recitals much before others.
It were not them who lifted Tabla from accompanying to solo instru. :-) They were amongst bests you can, they popularised it but Tabla was already considered a solo instrument before.
Enlightening! They are a masterful duo. Classical Indian (Hindustani, Carnatic, etc) is some of the finest music/art the world has ever produced! Blessed I am to hear it!
