I love Zakk's teaching style. "Here uh...these are the scale patterns we're gonna use. See you just fuckin....uh play a note here and...you know what fuck it. Just watch me shred for the next 8 minutes."
"Well, uuuh, we're just using the A minor pentatonic. You know, like.. *plays super fast for 5 minutes* ... "Yeah, that's it, like.... *plays super fast for 5 minutes*, "Yeah so.. *plays super fast for 5 minutes*.. That's it!
For those who didn't saw / heard the lesson: - If you aren't familiar with classical guitar technique, it's time to learn the basics - If you don't understand scales or their extended use, learn those until you can dream all the notes - If you don't like or can't play the blues, try your best to either play it and or like it. And if you're redheaded, you might find out that you do have a soul or maybe you don't, not my place to tell :-D - If you like to execute this one day with a banjo, you don't have to buy one just yet - If you like speed, use a metronome, start slow and increase the tempo when you can play the click away - If you like this certain acoustic style of shred: combine all the concepts and brew you're own thing based on the guidelines given in this video. * Don't forget to really, really, really love pentatonic scales. Also in my opinion,it has more character with reduced speed. Anyways, thanks very much! :D
Just like a auctioneer has fill ins between words, but guitar fill ins are a direction of feeling and movement of attitude and life.God bless you Zack. Flamenco guitarists are filling their straw built depends. Rock on boss man
+Pauloemariana Mendonca this is not a monster but a man with hangover who plays the same shit for years and everybody like this beacouse he is Zakk but this is nothing more then A7 for 7 minutes.Bullsh..
Amazing teacher! I learned chicken picking in 7:17 min. YOU can save time though by skipping to 4:39, watch the lick and hear the words "basically I was using every note we can". Sums up this 'lesson' nicely!
One way to get the chromatic sound or rather the bluesy picking scale is to mix the minor and major scales. Or anytime you have a whole step in your pentatonic shape put a passing tone So basically you have to know where the pentatonic shapes are in C major and where they are in C minor. Then mix them together to your taste. Some things he did were using a pedal tone- so keeping on note on the high e string then walking down a chromatic line on the G string.
Its hard to explain but sometimes sitting across from someone and just trying to mimic stuff and have them slow down the odd part etc., it actually ends up being very beneficial. It will take you to a different level of playing/hearing/following
i get everyone here, I'm in the same boat but we can't forget that most of that stuff he learned just watching people play these licks trying to copy them for hours on end. so guys pull yourself together and put in the effort. we got youtube we can even slow down the video but without rewinding a thousand times you won't learn it...
So pick a key then use pentatonic scales then ignore scale and play chromatic with emphasis on the key root note. Use finger picking with a pick. Mutes strings
The cold hard truth is you shouldn't be watching a video on chicken picking if you don't know which type of scale you're planning to flow it with. He started out with the foundation of an A Major Pentatonic, and simply showed you can create personal connectors to those foundations to create scales of known types, blues/jazz etc..learn a bunch, they're fun!
Stop complaining that he didn't hold you hand through the Lesson. If you aren't able to watch his fingers and use your ears to figure out what he did, then sorry but you are not a seasoned enough player to play what he's demonstrating in the first place
This is exactly how it goes when someone I know can play guitar tries to teach me. Mention some scales and buzzwords and then shreds beyond my mental capacity. Lmao!! 🤣
Yeah just call up Tony Montana and have him fill your bathtub with Columbia's finest, hold your breath for 30 seconds minimum, then dive in head first. When you emerge, you'll be at Zakk Wylde speed! 😆 definitely not even close to his level of ability but you'll at least be able to comprehend 800 bpm
