I'm on my second pair of these Zamberlan boots. Why two pairs? Sad story. I bought the first pair at REI, used my member dividend and a discount coupon to get them. Big investment. But well worth it. Incredible boots. Hiked all over. No blisters or foot pain, as experienced in the past with other boots (including Asolos, Merrill, etc.). Loved them. After enjoying a beautiful spring day hike in the Sierra Nevada, I returned to my car. The boots were a little muddy, snow melt making the trails damp. Sat in the driver seat, took the Zamberlan Vioz boots off, intending to clean the worst of the mud off before leaving. I put on sandals, drove the car to a shady side of the trailhead parking area, enjoyed some potato chips and post-hike conversation...and then drove off 90 miles back home to Sacramento. Left the boots at the trailhead. Felt like an idiot. Fruitless calls to the National Forest office and trail volunteer group. Boots gone. So I returned to REI and bought a second pair of the Zamberlan Vioz, and paid full price without hesitation. They are THAT good. Great boots. Thanks for the video.

Some people neglect maintenance, but it is absolutely essential to equipment longevity and the enjoyment / satisfaction of ownership. Really glad to see you taking such good care of your gear!

Yes. Through water/snow/slush etc. They have never leaked. Also, if your walking through wet bushes/grass, make sure to wear gaters (forgot to do that once, moisture got in through the top).

Hello from Greece! Very well made boots from zamberlan! I got the zamberlan new baffin model with nubuck leather and I am very pleased with them. The only thing I don't like is the rubber compound on the toe protector because it's a pain in the ass to clean it. However I am keen on the vioz because its easier to maintain them and to be honest they look beautiful . The only downside about the zamberlans is that they are a little on the narrow side even the wide last models.

Good advice... I've just bought a pair of these boots for a bargain price RRP £175, I paid £50 in a closure sale. They should last me a life time as Im 51. Cheers! West Yorkshire.

I would say in 110+ degree weather they would be overkill just because they will be hot. But they give great support/last forever.

I too have zamberlan and I too get hot spots... When it is WET that is. If my boots are dried, it is okay and very comfortable.

Hey man, I know this is an old video, but it's super helpful! I just bought a pair of these boots today and was looking for some basic care info and you certainly delivered! If you're still avail and wouldn't mind answering just a few questions I have (I'm a newb) then it would be much appreciated. This is my first pair of nice boots, so I don't know what's normal. Today I took them on a 6 mile test hike and for the first 2-3 miles they were the most comfortable boots I've ever worn, however, I started developing a bit of pain on the outside big toe (both feet), kinda near the knuckle. It's wasn't unbearable, but it was present. Could this resolve as the boots break in, or is this a sizing issue? I didn't get any blisters or anything, but I don't want this to develop into a bigger problem down the road. Are you still using these, and if not, how long did your pair last? Also, about how many miles did it take for you to break yours in? I keep hearing that they take a long time to break in. Lastly, one issue I see many people having is the lugs on the soles start ripping off (even after only a couple hikes), but it's hard to tell if that was from a bad batch or if there's a problem. Did you ever experience this problem? Sorry for the wall of text, and thanks again for making this video, it's super helpful for newbs like me! Take care.

I got my zamberlan vioz recently and did a day hike to break them in, and i had the same uncomfortable experience with my big toes. I think its the way the boots are made, they’re a but narrow i guess. I hope this problems resolves itself as time goes.

I always apply my leather cream with my finger tips, the heat from your hands makes the cream softer and the leather takes it better.

Nice survey! I bought a pair but yet to have them broken in. Have you got any feedback about using SnowSeal on your Vioz GT 996? Thanks!

I just ordered a second pair, because these are the best hiking boots I've ever owned, and after a few initial break-in hikes, they're the most comfortable as well. I'm not nearly as anal about cleaning and maintenance as this video presenter, and that's the great thing about these boots - You don't need to be. I've had my current pair for 3 years, without treating the leather or needing any repairs. They're durable and meant to show wear. You're not wearing these with a tuxedo. If you're doing everything in this video, you really have too much free time on your hands.

I recently got these boots, did a day hike to break them in. noticed some cuts and scratches on the leather from some sharp rocks. Will that compromise the waterproofing of the boots ? Also, I couldn’t find any hydrobloc cream so ordered a nikwax leather wax for the boots. Any experience using nikwax on zamberlans ? Any issues ?

Great Videos! I watch all of them. Are these shoes too hot for example in california? The dude working at REI said they would be good for high mountain stuff and overkill for backpacking here...?

Well, if the soles are coming away after only 150 miles, then I'm glad I saw your review because I won't be buying those boots. My last Zamberlan lasted me 10 years and not a stitch loose. But way back I think they were made to last a lot longer: they were heavy, stiff and took 5 months to break in.

+Johnnie soles not even close to coming off - just minor peeling - but a little preventative care goes a long way

Absolute quality boot, however I’m 2 days into my first pair. I have a blister forming on the back of heel. Please tell me it goes away and it’s not ear 300 bucks down the drain! Any tips on how you coped with the heel blisters? Thank you
@ReviewOutdoorGear

The heel blisters are normal. The boots need several weeks to break in.

I like the boot but I'm concerned they are too heavy on your feet.I'm considering the 230 Crosser for weight and breathability instead. What's your opinion?

I wear size 13, they’re not too heavy at all. I’ve bought probably 6-7 pairs of this boot. By far best boot I’ve had yet

Those look like some good boots. My brother has some Vasque backpacking boots, and he likes them. Well made thought, and I like the rubber rand on them. Make sure you try them on if you are switching companies.

2 Potential reasons for blisters. 1. Superfest Green, Trailblazer and Run lift the heel. Amount of heel lift depend on the footbed of the shoes. At Low-Cut shoes I have Problems with heel Slip in many shoes If I use such Superfeet insoles. CurrexSole Run/Hike or Blade mould better and offer enough Support in the Vioz. 2. Synthetic Socks are the wrong for Gore-Tex. May work at Sympatex H2O-Technology but not with any Gore-Tex , eVent, etc.. Take Rohner Original, Falke TK1 or Falke Walkie/Walkie Lite Socks. But wash it with a wool-/silk-product only. Change the Wool-Socks 1...3 time daily. Soaked with sweat ones vs. dry ones.
@evzevz06
@evzevz06 3 года назад
I find blisters also come from wearing boots that are just 1/2 a size too big which can feel like a proper fit but always cause problems. I always wear merino socks, and wear synthetic over the top so my boot is nice and tight all around the foot. Blisters on the ball, big toe, and under the heel can also be from cases of under or over pronation of the foot. Its easy to diagnose by looking at the soles of a pair of really old worn out shoes/boots
@espacesX
@espacesX 3 года назад
@@evzevz06 Here it was not under the heel it was on the rear side of the heel bone. I wear Merino as liner socks only as I need Just a thin sock as Base layer in case I decide for wearing two pairs. I wear socks out of 100% lamb's wool on the skin without Problems. Lamb's wool is much more robust than Merino and in the right quality it's very comfy. Just my Falle TK2 with Silk&Merino are hard to beat. Warm If cold. Better climate If warm-hot weather.

Coming from a neutral point of view and just someone who is thinking about buying these, 150 miles is nothing really. Standard trainers can do 150 miles without showing much wear. Not trying to undermine the review but just saying.

I purchased a pair of Zamberlan Saguaro 996 gtx boots. Worst boots I have ever owned. Two weeks of work, kill my right foot only. I can’t even wear them they squeeze my toes so tight. Contacted the retailer I purchased them from, and Zamberlan customer service directly. Neither offered any help or solution. First time I have ever had such indifferent customer service from a “high end” company. I have used Danner, Rocky, and Lowa boots with zero issues. My opinion, Zamberlan sucks, both as a company, and their products!!

fagejs ...my wife and me are wearing Zamberlans over a lot of years now and couldn’t be more happy! Zero issues, boots are delivering lots of joy during long hikes and the 150 miles that the guy in the video did in 3 years, we do in less than a season.... Zamberlan to us is one of the top manufacturers in hiking boots, if not the best there currently is when it comes to value for money and quality...
