A thrilling regional qualifying soccer match between Zambia and Uganda in February 1977 in Ndola in Zambia. The radio commentator is the legendary broadcaster Dennis Liwewe.
If only he had been the commentator when Zambia won the African cup against the lvorians, l just do not know how immaculately flowing his rivetting commentary would have been. He had ecyclopaedic knowledge of the game he spiced with delightful melodrama made compelling by his infectious passion and infectious enthusiasm. He was a soccer treasure to Africa with his flawless english. Radio became a darling with his amazing and entertaining soccer commentary. Central Africa listened to him with verve.
I was at this game. It is one of my most memorable. After the game my friend and I went to Coppersmith Arms in Ndola near the stadium. We had a few beers before we got on the train to return to Lusaka overnight. Those were the great days!!!
Zambia during those days(1980s - 1990s) was one of the best Afrcan countries football teams, as they won the East and Southern African cup of nations many times. I still remember Zambia's best goal keeper the late Efford Chabala, Kalushya Bwala, Joe Bwalya.
DENNIS LIWEWE - CONNOISSEUR OF FOOTBALL COMMENTATORS. He was a very charismatic radio commentator - a fountain of football wisdom, a moving encyclopedia of the game, the voice of soccer, the doyen of sports commentators.
Thank you so much for keeping this memory alive sir! Our football being known is because of this man (liwewe) and sharing this with us is gift, so thank you!
